Theres health and safety rules that the company has to follow. Once something reaches a certain point, companies are not allowed to sell or donate bad food per health and safety rules. No company likes throwing away all this food. Something like this takes hours. First you have to get it off the sales floor, then scan each thing out then it can go outside.

@@Sam-ge1vf yes and no thoes rules exist for the safety of the consumer as much as the company no store is willing to risk a lawsuit so if it goes above the "safe" temperature they toss it just in case

This is humanity at its worse of its kind. To think so many out there are struggling to eat or have nothing to eat and all that food is thrown out instead of donating it to those in need . How totally sad beyond words and heartbreaking. Glad you can get as much as you can for you and all that need it. God bless.
I worked for food service for a number of years. It is crazy how much waste there can be.
My mind is blown! I would call so many people that I know do some periodic diving. They would be all over this.

What gets me is the amount of food that has been wasted there. It is truly heartbreaking, when there are families starving as they can’t afford food. Why didn’t they call shelters. Anyone. I’m heartbroken. I’m glad you have managed to salvage some. 😢😢
Due to health and safety reasons, it can not be sold or donated. If someone gets sick then the company gets in trouble for selling or donating bad food.
They get a higher tax deduction and insurance payout if the adjuster investigator comes to estimate loss. If they donate befor the adjuster comes out they have no claim.

@@heatherpride334 it can often be donated because of good Samaritan laws. They just make more money if they throw it out instead. Exceptions apply obviously, broken freezers can be a health risk.
@@elliotmydude im talking in situations like a power outage of sorts like in this video. 1. This food is not safe to be donate per food safety. 2. Companies can file claims. Theres a special way to scan the stuff out when it from lost power.
Those big lasagnes are about $16 each at my grocery store. Blows my mind to think of the total value of everything there.

They could of announced that their freezer went out and they could of given it away or sell it for cheap price or have a generator as a backup! 🙂☺

Absolute insanity !! I've come across a broken freezer haul about a month ago. Had to buy 2 second hand freezers. The waste on this one you found is just...... I have no words. Complete and utter insanity ! Fill it up mate. Great score ! Well deserved.

I saw this at a Dollar General once..they lost power so they tossed the entire freezer section. I grabbed all the pizzas, almond milk and creamer I could carry 😂
Why in the heck didn't the store call in a few refrigerated semi trailers to store that food in until their freezers and fridges could be repaired. That would have been a lot cheaper than wasting all that food.

It totally disgusts me that they threw all of that out😢. If the freezers went down they could have tricked that food to the indoor pantries. They would have greatly have appreciated it. You were right that they could have announced and people could have gotten that food. Everything you said was true about the store’s policy. Shame on them for being greedy. It makes me sick.
Its not about the store being greedy. Grocery stores have health and safety rules to follow. Depending on how long this were down, they are then no longer allowed to sell it or donate it in fear of making someone sick. No store is happy about that kind of loss. If sold or donated, and someone gets sicks, it makes the company liable for selling bad food. Unless you have worked in food service, and taken some kind of food safety training course....you would not know that all food stores have rules to follow. The rules are not made up by the company. Its also possible for things to still seem frozen if the doors were shut. Another thing to consider...does he live in a place where its really cold? Maybe things refroze after being outside? I know at my grocery store....every single thing has to be scanned out before going outside. With that amount of food...it takes hrs.
@@heatherpride334I have to agree about laws & rules about potential lawsuits. I DO get furious seeing shelf-stable food getting thrown away in droves, which definitely has wiggle room with "best by" & "expiration dates".
They had to throw out all the food where my daughter worked. They didn't know what time power went out and still didn't have power at the end of her shift.

Years ago I walked into a supermarket, and the manager knew me and asked if I still had a chest freezer and I said yah and then he asked if they were full and I responded no- he told me to grab a few baskets and take all the ice I wanted. really, I didn't have to buy ice cream for a several months,
I can't believe they would throw out so many things! What a waste. Glad we have dumpster divers to pick some of it up :)

Michigan had a lot of power outages due to freezing rain and all. I’m sure that’s what happens when they have no power. Free for all to those who need it. Great job, Grab It!👍💜

I can’t believe the freezer went out.All those products are in different coolers all over the store.
Even my local Whole Foods Market had its entire system go down. ALL of their fridges and freezers in the store were sealed off with caution tape. I thought that not letting us buy fresh veg was over the top. What harm is a celery going to do after an hour? It's a living plant. The store had only recently moved the bell peppers to the cooler section. So of course I couldn't buy one.
This just makes me sick! I wish someone would come grab it all and save it ;/ how can anyone do this?
It looks like they took the store and shook it upside down like a snow globe...a food globe.

This is absolutely INSANE. You'd think with the price of food items AND how we are doing in America you'd see LESS AND LESS of this , but it's the opposite. I see more and more . With as much merchandise and the cost of product right now one would assume that stores would be trying to put something in place so this waste does not happen. Example alarms in the refrigerator system to let you know when temp is getting near the "danger temperature zone"

I work at Wal Mart. When things like this happens it's because either the power was off or the coolers malfunction. These business will throw out. They are afraid of getting sued.

Talk about irony yesterday. I watched one of your videos for the first time and saw that you found a bunch of stuff in the back of big lots. And then you went to a bunch of pantry boxes, and filled them that warmed my heart tremendously. Then today I went to one of my favorite stores, and saw that they were pulling a bunch of bread off the shelves, and it seemed perfectly fine, soft, and no mold on them at all. I asked what they were going to do with the bread I said I hope you're really not gonna throw this away. Then I spoke to one of the managers who I am well acquainted with and they said that's funny. They just were here yesterday and stocked the shelves and I said then why is the expiration date for today? He said I don't know, but we're going to check into it and also one of the cashier said they just delivered the spread yesterday. I think they put the wrong expiration date on the bread.. Whole wheat bread, sourdough bread, white bread, Challah bread , rolls, burger, buns, and so on hoagie rolls. It filled a whole shopping cart.......
Although they did not take it out the back they are going to be looking into it, and I am grateful for that.. But it absolutely blows my mind how much waste goes on in this country that cannot be donated because of fear for a lawsuit
I feel like companies are taking advantage of expiration dates because they know stores will by law have to toss out and buy new again. So they are shrinking the dates shorter and shorter to take advantage of this! 😮
Those frozen juices were still good to save. They don't go bad if they are thawed right away.
Exactly. I always thaw out concentrated fruit juice first because it's easier to mix. Also thaw out frozen fruit and eat it that way. This video is wild😮

Honestly it is so sad that we throw this much food away in America. People do not have to go hungry but of course big companies don’t care if people starve. As long as they keep getting their money. Glad you could rescue it!
Actually companies hate this kind of loss but food safety rules ties their hands. Food safety rules during power outages tells us that food in these situations are not safe to sell or donate it so it has to be wasted. In outages stores dont have a choice when food safety is on the line.
@@heatherpride334 They need to put their dumpsters in front of the stores instead of hiding it in back...the reason many people dumpster dive after store hours the stores call the cops and have you thrown out for tresspassing on their property!
@@jananelson8556 if theres no "no tresspassing" signs, then its not really illegal to dumpster dive. If there are signs that say "no tresspassing" then they have to listen to them. Though im sure lots of people who do it regularly, already know the rules in their areas.

Wow! I think I would start calling people I know to come get some. I know it’s a liability and can’t be donated. But coming to get it yourself is your risk not theirs. Time to get tubs and stick it in the snow. Just like we do in Michigan in winter. Great save for what you can save

I would be filling my car full of things like garlic bread, fruit,and anything that is still frozen or part frozen. You could even fill the blessings box with some of it, then let someone in the area know, and they will come and get it. That is a crazy thing to happen, it looks like their whole refrigeration system went down, as the creamer, and other dairy products are not frozen. Have a great day my friend ❤️🙂⚘️.
