    • @OldieWan
      @OldieWan Год назад

Take that anger and focus it on the homeless scum bags who sued places like Big lots of food poisoning. It is why it goes in the trash. For some time these places were boxing expired food into boxes and handed it out to homeless.
A few of them ended up suing and won big money.
So now by law everything must go into the trash.
They tried doing a good thing to help the community out. It only took 2 bad seeds who got sue happy to ruin the whole system for everyone.
So now when homeless get stuff out of the dumpster they can not sue for food poisoning. It is just assumed the homeless will get the stuff out of the dumpsters.
I had to learn this the hard way. I lost my job over giving homeless people food that was suppose to be thrown away.
I asked why I was being fired and I was told why things have to be like this.
Losing a job at the time I did made me homeless. The irony of it all is staggering. As no good deed goes unpunished.
From the outside it looks very wasteful. I wish I would have known about this before hand. Otherwise I wouldn't have tried to help.
I was told ignorance was no excuse and I could have costed the company millions of dollars. So I was shown the door.

On the South Coast in NSW Australia, we have established a community store. It survives on donations by charity and donations by local businesses. You spend 5 dollars worth of food which is very low cost and you receive fruit and veg for free. Similar deals throughout store. It is very busy right now in this despised area. The point is that stores donate, vetted by workers and supported by outperform mayor.

I work in retail, and I see a lot of people don't know how all of this food ends up in the trash. #1. It's expired. It's no longer safe to eat. I saw he was not checking expiration dates on the boxes. #2. All customer returns that are consumables must be damaged out due to the risk of tampering. #3. Recalled items. #4. Damaged in transit- box got soaked with a chemical from a tote that leaked above it. If it's dried, you might not be able to tell that a package of flour got doused in isopropyl alcohol. #5. Improper storage or power outages leading to items being stored at unsafe temperatures. Bottom line: you have absolutely no idea why those items were put there. This really isn't safe. My workplace does donate items to minimize wastage. If we have food in the dumpster, it is for a good reason.

I work at a Big Lots and all of our expired food items get donated to a local charity. It's actually the store managers job to set up donations with the local charities so when you find expired food like this in a Big Lots dumpster...that is a manager of that particular location dropping the ball and not doing their job. This is also why we have high food prices nationwide...if the manager did things properly, those items are written off as a donation and the company doesn't lose money on it and the food doesn't go to waste so everyone wins. We also can't throw anything like expired over the counter medications in the dumpster either, those have to be shipped elsewhere for disposal because its medical waste so if you ever find anything like that in a dumpster at any retailer...call them out on it.

And before someone says "you gotta earn it", or that it's all just bad choices in life, listen: It doesn't matter who you are, you can find yourself in this situation any time. Who are you going to blame then? Not yourself, because nobody tries to live in poverty.
Everyone deserves food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, and amenities. Everyone CAN have that, if billionaires and corporations weren't so greedy.

I'm very glad that my local Walmart (not American, we don't call it Walmart here but it's Walmart owned) take items which are about to go off and give them to local food charities instead of tossing them out in the garbage. It's commonplace for the bigger stores in my area to have shopping carts with a donate sign on it right on the other side of the check outs to make donating food convenient for people with less time so they can throw a few cans or boxes in right after paying for their stuff, and they take that whole cart as well as food which is not being bought and is about to go off and donate it to charities for the homeless, food banks and other shelters/housing facilities for people who are trying to get back on their feet.
These donate carts are oftentimes almost overflowing with goods, I don't think I've seen a time where it's been almost empty with nothing in it.
My community is one that's extremely pro-active with charities, especially food banks, in fact it's difficult to find a food bank with open volunteering positions because people are really quick to apply for them to help out. I've rarely seen homeless people, but on the off chance that I had I've always seen them approached by multiple random strangers asking if they need something to eat/drink, a blanket etc. As much as I hate my country, videos like this make me really appreciate the genuine nature of the community that I live in.

The trouble is, the way the law works if anyone gets sick on any of this food, the supermarket will have their arse sued.
I worked for a major airline caterer for 30 years and they threw out so much food it was obscene.
Often flights would be cancelled and they had hundreds of bread rolls they would throw out as well as all the food that had been prepared. When asked why, the company would simply say they were afraid of any legal ramifications.
Even charities like Salvation Army would not take left over or near use-by foods because even they were afraid of being sued in case of food poisoning. I don't blame the supermarkets for throwing this stuff out, it's simply a legal issue.
Yes, a lot of needy people can benefit but no one wants to take a risk.

this man just hit the jackpot lol. glad to see it goes to donations for needy families. when i used to work at burger king years ago, i remember us having to tally up the unused cooked food and then toss it out tot he dumpster. two homeless men would always chill near and got to know the managers. the camera's would have to watch us take it to the dumpster but the two men knew exactly what was going on lol and what time to dive.

Ricky would search, bubbles would be the lookout and Julian would stand there sipping 😂

In the early 90's I would dumpster dive with my friend. We would go for about an hour and fill fill his station wagon and help feed around 30 people twice a week until the cops got wise. Yes wasting food should be illegal.

This type of waste has been going on for decades in The States.
The employees are actually trained to sully the containers so no one can come along and do what this guy did.
So, someone's employees aren't doing their job.
Allegedly, giving the items away creates a liability for the company. smh.

I don't think throwing out expired food should be illegal but they should have to put it in a separate dumpster or something. Or be forced to donate it to food banks or something.

I know sometimes they have reasons to throw that stuff out. Most the time it is due to recalls due to something wrong with the product and can be dangerous when consuming.

This stuff gets thrown away because it's easier for management than having someone from a food bank show up to take it. When I was in Junior High, we got Dominos Pizza every day for lunch. I saw them throw out 50 boxes of untouched pizza. Why? Two reasons. 1. The Head Cook didn't want to get in trouble for ordering WAY too much food and have their budget cut. 2. The head cook didn't want to wait for a food bank to show up and collect the pizzas. She wanted to hurry up and go home. It wasn't too uncommon to see our school janitor walk out to his car with a square-shaped trashbag.
Tip for people still in school: help your school cooks with taking out trash. The cooks would sometimes give us leftovers that they would have had to throw away. One time, they gave us an entire cardboard box full of footlong hotdogs. Looking back, I wished I would have brought a bag to take some of that home with me.

That was so much food I can’t believe they just throw it out. Churches except donations for people in need . You’re making a huge difference and I don’t care what anyone else says. Some countries eat real rotten food that makes it to them from our landfills it’s heartbreaking

@@ourcreativebeehive - In Germany we have a service were the expired stuff is send to a local collection place, there all the expired or nearly expired food lands and there the poor people can get this for very a low amount of money.
We call this expiring date "Mindesthaltbarkeitsdatum" ... this means the product is good for at least this time, but possibly longer too.
Right now this service is used extensively, they must send people home because they do not have enough. People get food cards, they can come only once a week to get something. People are standing there in long lines from early in the morning to get something at 12 o'clock.
