Dr Gerdish is in Indiana and still practicing.
There are a lot of excellent vascular surgeons out there who specialize in mitral valve repair. I had my mv repaired along with a triple by-pass graft in mid-May. I am 70 and everything went extremely well! Don't be afraid. When it's all over and done with, you will be so glad you got it done! I Got my energy back, repaired 3 blockages that were just waiting to take me out; and, I was back home in 6 days. I stayed one "extra" day to fix an a-fib issue that came up. A-fib completely resolved. I feel better than I have felt in years! I still see my cardiologist regularly, but my surgeon has already scheduled an annual follow-up and says he likes to keep up with his patients! Vascular surgery and valve repairs have advanced tremendously in recent years and there are so many new options, techniques and replacement valves that are available. Be sure that you find someone you TRUST and bond with. I knew after my first visit that I had found the right surgeon. We hit it off and knew immediately he was the surgeon that I wanted. He took as much time as was necessary to answer all of my questions and while he was obviously quite knowledgable, he was able to explain everything in terms that I could understand. He was a god-send. I met one of his partners who covered for him over the weekend I was there and he inspired my confidence as much as my surgeon. When you get a surgeon, you get his/her team also, so make sure that you feel good about the people on his team. BTW, my cardiologist recommended my surgeon. That should be your first source of referral since cardiologists know the abilities and reputations of the surgeons in your area. I wish you the best and pray that you will find the right doctor/surgeon and get your health back!
Im 31 and was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation and get all of those symptoms but my heart specialist wont see me again for 5 years :( im going to get a second opinion i think
Melissa Norman to bad you cant swim lol
I hope your okay. I have the same thing as you. Mitral regurgitation and I'm 31! My cardiologist isn't making a big deal of it but my symptoms are worsening like the video. Don't give up this leads to irreversible heart failure no matter what age you are.... thw doctors not paying attention when it gets worse because of our age should not be doctors! I have an appointment with the surgeon in this video in Indiana. Keep researching!
If it’s mild they don’t monitor it every year. That’s normal in 70% of the population. I’m moderate/severe. They would send you for a TEE if there was any worry. If you’re moderate/severe, you should be getting echos every 6 months. If you are, get it checked twice a year.
I’m 31 and just been diagnosed 😢
