PLAZA DE LA VIGIA, MATANZAS

Plaza de la Vigía ( 'lookout place'), a safeguard to the threat from piracy and smuggling that Matanzas' first settlers faced. In this square was where Matanzas was founded in the late 17th century and numerous iconic historical buildings stand magnificently.
The square was thoroughly refurbished in 2019.
