- Recorded Nov 10th, 2012, in Nürtingen, Germany. This has always been one of my favourite songs by Andy's. It is the opening track to his 1981 collaboration with Dick Gaughan entitled "Parallel Lines", which I used to listen to a lot.
Andy, I worked as a Gamekeeper in County Meath back in the 1970s. I only once ever heard a Hare caught by a Dog & it did indeed sound just like the distressed crying of a baby. Once heard, never forgot! ... I hope I don't live long enough to ever hear that cry again!
Andy Irvine and Paul Brady are a gift to the world from the Irish people,
Both national treasures
I could listen to Andy all day & night!
The Hare does not get away often enough
Thanks for this also!
Masts got this one a bit wrong! This songs a folklore song about Creggan, co Tyrone in Ireland! The hare has a strong myth and is said to be a witch! Look into it great cultured song from my home!
how can I learn more about this myth?
It is allegory, the White Hare is Ireland. Barney Conroy is a traitor for the Brits. Pedigree greyhound’s are English soldiers hunting a patriot.
