i think the problem to that weird lockup in the 12 maglev is when you take a close look in when you misalign the edges, you can see the edge feet got stuck on the other edge. You can see it more clearly when you loosen the cube. That's just my thought tho
So I got my gan 12 m maglev in, I’m noticing the lockup’s as well but no where near to the same extent. I’ve figured out it’s actually seems like the torpedo on the edge catching the corner. I use a looser setting which maybe why the catching is not as bad. Just a thought ( also yes it is not the magnets just from what I can see it see that when layers are flexing in the right way the edge of the torpedos will catch the corner pieces. I will re edit if I find a way to fix it)
j perm, i would reccomend you to try GTN setting 6 and tension at 5, this gives the cube a very stable yet great at corner cutting, and relatively fast cube, adding up with the uv coating, i have gotten my best times with this cube, hope this advice will help.
Can you make a comparison between 12 leap and 11m pro. Many people said both are not that different and worth getting the 11mpro Also, Dylan never failed to persuades us to learn chinese
I am actually using a GAN 12 Maglev (I purchased before any review and decided maglev over leap because maglev was more expensive and assumed it must have been better) and I upgrade from a GAN xs. I am using nearly the same setting as your recoomendation (3-3 vs your 3-2). I enjoyed this new turning style very much. GAN xs felt like a good quality speed cube but similar to any other speed cube. Maglev is on another level. Maglev felt smooth and super light and fast but at the same time very stable. I am having way fewer mistakes and less issues on allignment. After getting used to the new maglev, i had to turn the setting on my gan xs way down since it felt too stiff and required too much force for each turn. And practising on maglev is much easier on my wrist and arm overall. Using XS now felt like using old rubix. I do agree on your issue that the force required to turn maglev is not linear. But i think it just takes getting used to. I did have a lot of overshoot or overturning at the beginning. I average 25-30 seconds roughly so my usage may differ.
Also coming from the xs, I felt the exact same way with 3-3 settings and triangle corner mag settings on strongest. I've done just under 3000 solves in the month I've had the 12 maglev and it has pushed me over the sub 14 ao100 barrier and my first sub-8 of 7.66. I just love how forgiving it feels when spamming tps even with my god awful inaccurate turning.
@@nadia02 Same, bought it three weeks ago and haven't received it yet, and the only thin I heard from RUclipsrs is that it sucks. I was getting quite scared i just burned 80 bucks on a plastic toy lmao
I only have a standard Rubiks cube so I can't say much about whether this is good or bad, but I'm continually fascinated by how much goes into designing a cube with this many features. I think much of whether it's good or bad is just a form of trade-offs. Maglev reduces friction, but also reduces control, and corner magnets increase chances of cube alignment, but also increases amount of control needed in rotating a side. Somewhere between all these factors is a sweet spot, but everyone has a different sweet spot, so I guess that's why everything's adjustable.

unpopular opinion - I actually like crunchy sound of GAN 12 m (maglev) .. i really liked the looseness and feel of my old MGC 3 and it "reminds" me a lot of it, even though difference is vast. don't know for sure what is causing it but I think it might be the holes in corner pieces that are slightly catching there. have you ever tried to make "hybrid cubes" ? like take pieces of GAN, core from MOYU and tension duds from somewhere else and make some kind of Frankenstein monstrosity :) could be a fun video..
I also have the maglev version. I have found that I really like it. I don't have the catching issue but I would say I'm not as fast as yourself and maybe that is the difference. It is very loud
J perm, hi. I saw your video and I understood why it double snaps! It's because when you corner cut, you are pulling the other side of that layer. After the cut, the back side joins and makes he second snap. I hope you have a good day. Bye!

Just got the 12 maglev and it's amazing, I had a 356x, xs, air sm and 11 m pro as my mains in the past. Nothing compares to the 12 maglev, the turning is insanely smooth and clean, the cube is very stable but I don't get the catching issue like you do, maybe you have a defective unit. How to describe Gan: What it should be: Gan is a Chinese company that makes the best speedcubes What it actually is: Gan is a company who sets new record highs for cube prices
I started cubing when the best cubes were worth around $25 now it seems prices will never stop rising… Sadly I can’t try the latest cubes anymore as I am definitely not willing to pay that amount for a cube. I bet we’ll see $100 cubes soon enough!
Currently, only Gan and DaYan have $30+ Flagships. QiYi dictated the flow with their $25 Tornado V2. When it just came up, it was considered TOO CHEAP to be a flagship. Now we have the WRM 21 and MS3L that's are relatively cheaper.
One thing to remember is, what other hobby will you be buying the “newest and coolest” thing from for less than $100? If you look at it that way, these cubes aren’t that expensive

I actually love the Gan 12 Maglev and I don’t regret spending $77 on it. It took me a few hours to get used to the turning, but now that I am, my solves are considerable faster. For reference I am sub 18 with the Gan 356 Air SM (my old cube) and sub 17 easily with the Gan 12 Maglev
I was looking for someone to compare the Air SM to the 12 Maglev! Would you consider doing the comparison? The reason is I am selling off my old GAN cubes including the SM to buy the Maglev but now I don’t feel this is best for me!!! Thanks
@@-_-Unknown_-_1233 My advice would be: if you don’t have the budget or don’t want to spend the $77, don’t. While I personally love the Gan 12 Maglev and don’t regret spending the money on it, It’s still definitely overpriced because it’s so new (relatively). If you’re not sure, I would wait until the price of the Gan 12 Maglev decreases before you purchase it. I like the cube a lot but it’s just really expensive, and it’s certainly posible to be fast with other Gan cubes or cubes of whatever brand you like. I’ve shattered by PB averages and singles with the Gan 12 Maglev, so I’m really happy with it. I’ve gotten a TON of 12 and 13 seconds solves with the Gan 12 Maglev, so purchasing it really worked out for me but that’s because the feel of the cube happens to fit with my turning style. I liked how it felt out of the box so much, that since opening it, I haven’t even lubed or tensioned it at all. Overall, I like it a LOT more than the Gan 356 Air SM, However, critics of the Gan 12 Maglev could say that the cube is “too fast” for some people if that makes sense. I think for people who say that about the Gan 12 Maglev, some lube to slow it down could really help that though. So in conclusion, if you’re wary of the super expensive price and don’t wanna drop almost $80 out of pocket for it, I’d say just wait until the cube becomes less expensive with time.
@@senordonkfish4375 thanks for your time. In response to your message, money isn’t the problem. I believe in investing in something I will use but I am struggling to justify replacing something that is perfect for me (Air SM). I liked the GAN i V2 more than the SM so thought maybe the 12. I’ll probably get it and make up my mind while twisting it. I have a fast GAN X that I am not a fan of. It feels too clumsy and fast. At least with the 12 you can tighten it etc. Thanks pal, all the best.
I personally really enjoy the maglev, I have always loved very strong magnets in cubes and I don't mind how it feels, I still haven't fully got it set up since there is so much to do and I've only had it a little less than a week, but I think there could be many people who would enjoy it
I hate this cube. One of the big problems I have with it is the implementation of the maglev. Magnets are not the same as springs because of the inverse square law. With springs, there is a linear force gradient as you compress them. But with magnets, the force between them is not linear at all. Basically the force of the magnets is inversely related to the distance between them. As you bring them closer together there is a point where the force will double and a point where it will quadruple etc. As a result, it becomes very hard to have a linear set of settings for two opposing magnets. And yet companies have decided to just use the same spring adjustment settings for these new maglev cores which is wrong. It's why some of the settings are just completely unusable. For these maglev settings to actually be somewhat linear, the notches on the adjustment system need to be one half the distance of the one that came before them. Also, the gan 12 is way too light and it feels extremely cheap as a result. Plus it catches as Dylan mentioned here. And then there is the core magnet setup, human beings when they turn something they turn it with a constant amount of force. It's just simply easier for us to do it that way, but as was shown this cube does not promote that kind of turning. So to take advantage of the "innovation" of this cube you need to turn in a way that is completely counterintuitive to most human beings. This cube frankly is a huge step back in innovation and it's what happens when a company decides to innovate just for the sake of innovation. Also that price tag is just messed up, at least with the gan 11 you can get a Duo and the duo wasn't nearly as expensive but the gan 12 is just irredeemable. Great review Jperm, it's pretty fantastic that you went out and got American money just for that gag. I hope you got a good conversion rate.
My GAN12 is still stock, it came very dry. Mine doesn't spring back like yours when turning, it only springs forward into place with momentum it will jump forward. It feels like less magnet force or the same as My 356 X, which is on the clear magnets. The plastic is a bit thin, to the point the walls are squishy, I'm starting to get used to the lightness though. I don't get the catches like you do but I think I've encountered hints they're there but haven't narrowed them down. Might be worse in some settings. It reminds me of the catches that are much worse on the GAN smart cubes, they were getting better on the newer ones. I wonder if it's the holes in the insides of the corner pieces used for charging on the smart cubes as there are similar holes on this one. Definitely not as smooth and quiet as my 356 X, but I haven't set it up yet. I do prefer it to the 11 M pro which I never got use to, but now I'm starting to like the 11 M as well now.
Interesting that you say the 12 M isn't as smooth as the 356 X. I have both as well and thought my 12 M (Maglev) was smoother but now that I think about it you may be right! I love my 356 X which was a huge upgrade to my Gans 356 Air. I feel like the 12 M Maglev is another huge upgrade -- at least for me. Initially I didn't like how "airy" and light the Maglev felt but I'm quickly warming up to it and even like it more then my 356X now. I just set a new PB of 1:06 with it. I tried the 356 X and set a PB of 1:05. I then tried the Maglev and set a PB of 1:02 so who knows if it really is an upgrade. :-) The 12 M is definitely louder then the 356 X. It doesn't bother me but it might some.
@@MichaelPohoreski I did mention mine also came very dry, I've not set it up yet. I could potentially make it smoother. That was just my out of box experience. I'm starting to get used to the lightness too. I doubt I can do much about the catching, which is probably worse at higher speeds. Very similar to the catching in the smart cubes so I wonder if it's caused by the holes in the corner pegs. I wouldn't judge a cube by your performance with it, your performance will naturally be getting better over time anyway. It would be nice if I could blend the 2 cubes. I don't like the thin plastic it's a bit squishy when holding the cube. I also don't like the switches on the edges pieces, I'd rather something internal so it's a smoother surface. Also quietness is important to me. Cubing comfortably means I cube more, means I improve more.
Hi jperm you may love the leap but you want the uv one so if you want you may try taking the core of the uv coated and the caps of the uv and replace in the leap version. Thank you for the gan 12 maglev review
Hey JPerm.. I recently got the Gan 12 Maglev but it does not have any catching problem that you described in this video.. Instead it's very fast and I had to put slower lubes to slow it down.. Anyways Thanks for the review.
Hey jperm. I think there's a common mistake made with maglev. It isn't like springs . Springs repel and attract while maglev only repel or attract, thus you get a more unstable cube than with springs. Because when you pull a face toward you only the screw retain the face, the corner core magnets helps a bit but unlike springs magnets aren't linear in their pulling. I guess maglev is going to need more work before being as good as springs. I might be wrong tho.
@@vasatruhl Yea i saw comparisons of The RS3m 2020 and Meilong M, all I wanted was a really stable and smooth cube, as i didnt care much about the spring compression system, I went for the Meilong, and it turns amazingly after setup!
I'm not really sure this maglev thing will take off. It's such a different feeling because of its inverse square force as oppose to linear springs. Feliks uses the leap version

J perm u have both leap and maglev if u like leap more than maglev take out pieces of maglev and put them in leap version u will get leap with UV coated!!!!
if you've allready bought gan 12 i know a good setup (for me) middle magnets (on triangle core magnets) centre piece travel to 2 and tensions to 3 with weight 5 and silk and don't turn to aggressively.
Hi man I ordered my gan 12 yesterday still didn't come as for the lube if you ask reddit they all say not to use weight 5 as slow lubes makes the gan 12 worse in every way so I think you could only use silk and try it Edit: also many people on reddit say that speedy is the better option for gan than silk since it is faster but I think if you want to slow the gan then silk is good
I Think with the M move problem is because you set it up wrong, I set it up differently and I can really easily do an M move, I can literally do a M2 by barley tapping, overall I've gotten used to it and now I'm in love with it
As a new cuber I learned on a Moyu rs3m and got the Gan 12 because I had to see what it was like. After a week with it I can't go back to the Moyu. Well I can but I just really enjoy the quality and feel of the Gan
i think the reason maglev is a corrects itself a lot easier is because the maglev system's reduction of friction equates to less force required to complete a turn, which make sit easier for the corner to core magnets to correct the turn on the maglev as opposed to the leap
POV: You live in country that does not have a online cubing store and u order cube from other online cubing stores and the shipping ...... It costs more than the whole cube or setup in total.... Total pain..... That happened to me actually I ordered a rs3m and what do u know its 24$ that was total marketing

The maglev was the first cube I bought costing more than 10 dollars, and also the first cube I bought with magnets, I don't have a leap, but I'm very happy with the maglev, and barely even notice the variable turn pressure, although I'm sure at first it was wired, maybe I just have strong fingers from learning to do moves like reverse d push on Rubik's brand cubes.
Yes if you can do reverse d moves on your Rubik’s brand, you have very strong fingers lol. I can’t even come close to doing that on my Rubik’s brand. (I have a Gan 356 m now though)

unpopular opinion - I actually like crunchy sound of GAN 12 m (maglev) .. i really liked the looseness and feel of my old MGC 3 and it "reminds" me a lot of it, even though difference is vast. don't know for sure what is causing it but I think it might be the holes in corner pieces that are slightly catching there.

A challenge or Video suggestion --> Scramble a 3x3 and then solve all the corners like a 2x2 and then solve all the edges using only M , U , S , E , D moves 👍🏼

What do you do for the middle layer?
@@oliverlund2519 yea thats why i gave this video to j perm , i tried to do this but was not able to do the middle layers but if we do any other moves like R or L or B or F then the solved corners will break when the D and U layer corners are not alligned so he can do that first align the D and U corners then do any other moves so the corners dont break

Even the WRM 21 Lite is pricy compared to them.... let alone Gan's.
I live in America and I agree about the money. I prefer Canadian, Euro, and Yen for looks over our "how many different shades of green can we use?" money...

@@lonk1965 same
If you love Maglev, buy the GAN 13.
Jperm uploads in my birthday. Amazing!
Wow thanks for that info! You've made me even more interested in magnets
Nice vid. Just bought the Jperm 3x3. BEST CUBE EVER
The 12 M is definitely louder then the 356 X.

I might be wrong tho.

i think the reason maglev is a corrects itself a lot easier is because the maglev system's reduction of friction equates to less force required to complete a turn, which make sit easier for the corner to core magnets to correct the turn on the maglev as opposed to the leap
