neat grow! im a rule breaker too.. ran my cap ebb and grow yrs ago no ph no tds just air and eye balling nutes(pro grow/bloom botanicare) came out great. still using my CAP ebb and grow got version 2 pots. now its made by hydrofarms with a bottom drain. but i have seen growers have issues with the bottom drain getting clogged by roots. mine never does that.. happy growing
Thank you for talking about mold on roots! I'm trying to set up an indoor hydroponic vegetable garden, and I have a mold allergy that could make my day (and days) a lot worse if my plants grew mold. No other youtuber has really taken the time to address that problem
Thank you. I feel like there is so much that goes in to making a good video besides just the information. Once you try it, you quickly realize it is harder than it looks! Thanks for the words of encouragement!
So far so good with my tomatos. Ive a tray with liquid fertiliser and rain water .I dont check ph rain water is fine .coco and perlite in my telescopic pot i 3d printed and mars ts 600 grow light over 2 foot away from my plants and 12 hrs on and off .Great results so far and ill update my videos later on my chanel thanks paul
I agree with not needing the dissolved solids meter. I bought a meter and after 1/4 through my grow I stopped using it because it gave me the same exact readings since I switched out my water every week in my RDWC setup. I think unless you are getting creative with the amount of fertilizer you use you can skip buying it. I wouldn't go without the PH meter though.
Hi I'm new to all this but ive invented a telescopic pot ive 3d printed so I can try hydroponics using a telescopic pot in a grow tent .ive a few videos of my journey so far this year thankyou paul
Nice tips and great video. Question: You mention using air pump with Kratky won't hurt. I'm doing my first grow Kratky but do happen to have air pumps and air stones from my fish aquarium days (used to breed them). Will it help or just complicate it, especially since this is my first attempt. Thoughts?
I think it can only help. A lot of people have great luck with kratky. I have gotten quite a lot of produce using that method. But inevitably I get some funky roots. When I use the air stones I get bigger crops and healthier roots.
I'm thinking about getting one of those Gardyn or IHarvest vertical hydroponics systems. Can I grow lettuce & tomatoes together with the same nutrient level?
My water ph from the tap is 11.5. I think I have way too many plants from getting crazy with seed starts. All my stuff is in mason jars so I am probably putting them in containers that will be too small. For the lights I purchased some 4 bulb shop lights from Home Depot. They hold 4 T8 bulbs. I went ahead and got a case of 10 6500k and 10 3000k bulbs. Right now I have all 6500k bulbs in for the start. As the plants grow I plan to put half 6500k and half 3000k in each fixture. This is my first time growing anything. It's been fun and I have channels like yours to thank for giving me the information to start out.
ELEVEN point FIVE? that seems super high. Go crazy, have fun, see what works. The lighting setup sounds like it will work out great. I would see if you can't bring down that pH though.. Good luck!
Thank you for these videos. Just getting started, still waiting for some equipment to arrive. Your videos have answered many question now have a new one. What is hydrogen peroxide used for?
Thanks for watching. The hydrogen peroxide I use to kill bacteria and sanitize things. I will use it occasionally on a long grow to keep things healthy. The down side is that it is kind of all or nothing. It kills the good bacteria too. There are other options, but it does the job.
2H2O2 -> 2H2O + O2 The equation makes clear why hydrogen peroxide is such a useful tool in aquaculture. For every two molecules you add, you get one of dissolved oxygen and two of water. Simple and effective. Besides adding dissolved oxygen directly to the water, hydrogen peroxide has an additional benefit of accelerating decomposition and disrupting some bacteria that use up all the oxygen. The byproducts of hydrogen peroxide application are oxygen and water, two naturally occurring components of any aquatic ecosystem. It means reasonable application of hydrogen peroxide is generally safe and environmentally friendly. In conclusion, Adds dissolved oxygen to your water. Which is great for root development of plants.
what do you think about using a solution to measure the ph as opposed to a digital meter. I use the solution as I find the digital meter slows me down and is cumbersome
Never tried it. If it is faster and accurate then I should definitely try it. Actually I take that back. I have done it in high school. But not since :)
I do about 14 -16 on and 8-10 off. I have also read that if you run the lights for 24 hours straight just before harvest it can help to purge nitrate concentrations from the leaves.
It isn't so much about hours per day but how many moles those lights deliver in a given time period. Lights all have different PPFD readings. I'd encourage learning about DLI requirements and finding a way to measure the light, even if crudely. I use a lux light app on the phone and divide the lumens by numbers given to me by the light manufacturer (HLG) Most companies don't give that info but you can still search around and find some equations to give a rough calculation. Getting the light right makes all the difference. There is a interesting test by Aldo pepper who ran the same light at different heights (which gave different intensities) for different amounts of time. Each delivered 16 moles a day but in different amounts of time/intensities.
Masterblend is far cheaper and delivers similar results as the expensive Flara Nova series or similar liquid nutrients. All the big commercial growers use dry (Masterblend or similar) vs liquid nutrients.
I do have some dry stuff. And you are right, it is waaay cheaper. But the 1 quart liquid bottles will last me quite a while and are super convenient. More expensive, but convenient. I have never tried the maxigro and maxbloom. May have to give them a shot.
Depends on what you are growing, and the stage of life the plant is in. You can find feed charts around the internet. If you use the flora-gro nutrients, they have one on their website. They also have guides on the back of the bottle.
Thank you for this video I needed to watch this to start growing vegetables hydroponic systems.
Great video! there is so much "you must have this" thinking in hydroponic videos so it is really nice to see a calmer honest view expressed.
....this one's pink...sign me up haha... Agree, if you can grow something Kratky then expanding into another constellation of needs is silly.
That is what I was just thinking.

Thanks for the info. Today I will start my plants without any of the rules. Hoping it works.
Your production quality is getting a LOT better! Always been information but that steady improvement in production quality keep it engaging.

Thanks for explaining all this. It's very appreciated!!!!! I needed it.
Thanks, you have managed to explain hydroponics more on my level.

Good job! Got to the facts without the extra verbiage of enjoying yourself talk.

I did a video on how you can brew the rules on the nutrients, but you need to know a bit of chemistry to pull it off.
I tried your nutrient suggestion Greens and Machines and it was my best Grow to date 😊👍🏾
A useful video, thank you.
Great video agent Smith thanks much!

Get a mig-range light in the 3500k range. It will work for veg and bloom

Try snap hydroponics I live in the phillipppines snap haydroponics is simple using styro boxes that can insulate from light and heat

Air Stone?
Good day mr., Can i ask about lights, how long at day and night time for lights for the lettuce indoor?
I do about 14 -16 on and 8-10 off. I have also read that if you run the lights for 24 hours straight just before harvest it can help to purge nitrate concentrations from the leaves.
@@OldPlanty thankyou sir. I was starting my hydroponic and I also watch all your videos.

Do you need airation in an nft
you do not. The constant flow of water is good enough.

Just get some maxigro and maxibloom

I like your videos because of the amazing audio quality. Well the mic could be better, but the background music always sound like surround sound.
Thank you very much. And challenge accepted. I will work on the mic!
i cant use sunlight? its free lol and i have a lot of it
You can use the sun. I love the sun. Big sun lover. I don’t have much though at the moment. Totally jealous. Maybe in a couple months :)
What is just the rite amount of TDS

I'm scared to buy a ph meter that doesn't work or works for a while then breaks :/
Yeah, i had mine for 3 days. calculated it with special fluid stuff. dipped it in vinegar, and it read 7. The day after i dropped it, bye bye $150
I use those driptest right now, about $7 for 50 tests, works just fine by me
@@folkmarcmetal , the meter shown in the video (i have the same one) was like 12 bux.
No Brian!
he's the clickbait.
