The whole damn tournament was probably the best thing to happen. Not only did all of the best players play (except for Dr. Llod), but they all played on FIRE. Plus we got Scar's return to commentary, AND Yoshi won a super major? Our cup runneth over.
Winners semis, Mango vs iBDW has one of the funniest quotes from Brandon ever. "Yeah you know Yoshi's used to be Falco's neighborhood but it's been gentrified my guy", or at least something along those lines. I was dying.
the way amsa uses the neutral b to basically set up a Oki situation is fucking insane, the amount of innovations he's made with this character alone is literally unmatched in any fighting game.
@@idlemindedmage6925 Others have said it, but to elaborate: "Oki", short for "okizeme", is a Japanese term referring to the options following a knockdown in traditional fighting games ("waking up" and getting up off the ground), usually where the defender's options--their "wake-up" options--are more limited and the aggressor's options are opened up or more difficult to defend against. Tech-chasing in Smash could be likened to okizeme, since the defender's options are limited (neutral, left roll, right roll, get-up attack) whereas the aggressor can potentially get huge pay-offs (read into a smash/grab/combo starter, reset into another oki guessing game, etc.); it just usually isn't referred to that way. I think Shrekstacy (OP) referred to it as oki since it isn't necessary a tech chase (they're recovering in the air after breaking out of the egg), but it still limits the defender's options while presenting a potentially scary situation from the aggressor.
"Every time when I feel good and I'm moving well, my tech skill is better... that kind of feeling when I'm playing the game I'm having fun." - aMSa, the GOAT Yoshi
I feel like this applies to all Melee players as well. We all know the feeling of schmovement and that feeling amplifies your gameplay. Versus when you can't hit a ledge dash and seemingly play worse.
This just might be the best tournament in melee history. All the top players played out of their goddamn minds, amsa finally won a super major, and Scar returned to commentary.
The fact that people say this is the goat tournament, and summit 11 was the goat grands, truly cements in my mind that Melee has never been more poppin than it is right now, and I'm actually happy I'm alive and well to see history being made every other big tournament. Born too late to explore the world. Born too early to explore the universe. Born at just the right moment where I can watch history being made in the greatest game of all time 🙂
"AN OPEN-UP!" "Off of a parry!?" "This is it!" "No no no no!" "Look at it! Look at it!! It's over, it's over!" "Amsa did it! Amsa did it!!" Fuck I love these guys. GG
The best thing about aMSa? I’d have to say the way that he talks UP his character and his love for who he plays. Like so many people will win a matchup and talk about how their character actually loses so it seems more impressive, but never aMSa. Even when people like ibdw say the fox mu is almost invalidatingly bad for yoshi aMSa says “nah I know I can win it bc yoshi is good” and tries to prove that
Most fighting games never get to have this moment. A lot of the time the meta is set by developers patching the game. Melee is pretty much unpatched[community comp patches aside]. And this has allowed the game to develope entirely with the skill and will of the player base. That's the true reason competitive melee is great. Go amsa, I cannot wait to see another player take another unexpected character to the top of the game.
So we got Wizzy's Captain Falcon winning a major, then Axe's Pikachu winning a major, then Amsa's Yoshi winning a super major. Truly, Melee will never be definitive, it's always evolving.

The coincidence of Amsa winning his first super major, would be on the stage literally named, “Final Destination” The very last level of both classic, event, and adventure modes. Lately it seems as if melee top players as a whole discovered adderall lmao. Crazy how they just keep getting better and better, nowhere near close to a ceiling.
10:07 dude, I know we meme about how whenever ibdw loses he gets hugged, but apparently it's so ingrained that he expected it. Mango went for the pound, Cody turned unto a handshake, which turned into an awkward one-armed and one-sided hug. Lol
Well, nerves I'd guess. Amsa hitting the parry both times (at least that's what I saw) puts this less on Mangos poor decision and more on Amsas cracked gameplay.
Justice for mangos seeding. Happy for aMSa but does aMSa win if him and mango change sides in the bracket? hell no he doesn’t. he loses in quarters to zain
aMSa beat Zain most recently so it’s not a foregone conclusion. Also Mang0 was seeded higher than aMSa but still lost to him twice; making it difficult to blame Mang0’s loss on seeding when in reality aMSa was just better at this specific tourney
aMSa finally getting the tournament he deserves after all these years is one of the best things to happen to melee
