- rare performance of earth wind & fire with the song "evil" in 1973....if you interested in rare concerts of earth wind & fire please send me one message or check my web site for other rare concerts of EW&F in this site: gianfrancus.for...
My wife and I love earth wind and fire, so much my son ,daniel jr know all the songs and he is just 19 years old.
The first single and album to incorporate the great lefty Al McKay into the lineup, on guitar...marking the beginning of the golden era for the greatest band of all time
The African Kalimba really gives this song an exotic and ethereal sound.
Kalimba sounds like a funkier version of the vibes
and it works besutifully with the talents of the group. Gives them a sound all their own!!!
These guys were so far ahead of their time. We are now used to hearing this level of musicianship and even production. What a visionary Maurice was. RIP sir.
Absolutely!
AMEN...
Thank you for your comment. I was about to write the same words. The music is timeless.
Respectfully..they were right on time..facts
I wish there were more musicians that have this level of talent and abilities. I don't hear enough Earth Wind and Fire music being played. That's why I'm watching this video.
With these guys 1973 is like yesterday... timeless and relevant
Never be another!
Earth Wind & Fire are musicians of the HIGHEST level! Their music is equal parts funk and spirituality - it lifts you up and makes you dance!
It's kinda like, perfect right?👍
And jazz.
Rest in peace to all the members of e.w.f.that are no longer with us. God bless them all.
I can only imagine a jam sessions they're having now.
I love Verdine's energy!!!!!
Yes i agree. It's beautiful!
YES AND THE HAIR OMLAAWWWDDD LOVE IT!!!! EVEN BACK THEN HE'S STILL A BALL OF ENERGY ON STAGE TODAY!!!!
Still the same today.
One of my first heroes on Bass!

Kool Bell from The Gang is also a badass bass player, he was also skinny as hell back in the 70s.
Maurice White, an "Icon" him George Clinton, The Ohio Players and Slave just to name a few introduced us to some awesome musicians and I thank god that I was able to Listen and meet a lot of them in my lifetime!
This was the album, and this song in particular, started my lifelong love affair with Earth, Wind, and Fire. I was only 12, but I was hooked and bought every album, 8-track, cassette, or cd they put out. Still the baddest band in the land!
"Evil" is the first Earth Wind and Fire song that I heard played on the radio. Luckily I have a friend from Jr. high school that knew who I was talking about when I asked about EF&W.
Me too
Me too

Agree...Amen
Earth, Wind, and Fire. We used to rock the house back in high school in the late '70's with this great band. there will never be another era with the music we enjoyed growing up in the '70's. So much fun and we had the greatest music to go with it. Nothing like real instrutments , real singers and a great live performance. I wouldn't trade it for the world. this band's harmony and musicianship was second to none. Maurice White was a musical genus. R.I.P. Mr. White.
MrNathan791 We did too!
Verdine White was and still is amazing!
Man, I wish EWF would release these classic shows from the 70's on DVD...REAL MUSIC is simply PRICELESS! Thanks for posting!!
I'm 58 yrs old, and I went to see Earth wind and fire and a young girl with my father, I was in love with maurice white. Of course my dad didn't know, but I love me some him😍
RIP Maurice, THANK YOU for giving me the best music EVER. I wish you a peaceful journey.
Could not have said it better......🙏❤🎵
I have always liked earth wind and fire❤
Real music never sounds so good ., a gift from god. , long live earth wind and fire.

This is Earth Wind & Fire at their Peak the baddest band ever assembled.Their musicianship is unparalleled and their music transcends time
I love when Maurice plays the kalimba's!!
My Band For Life Nothing But Love And Peace Being played Out to the World ✌🏾👊🏿
Earth-wind-and Fire says a lot in the name how powerful this group was !!!!!!!
They are Jamming, Verdine feeling on the base
I was 14 when this came on. I was so excited by the groove and the Kalimba solos. Still am
It was a cool tune back in the day .
@@v.dargain1678 И сейчас тоже 🙆 !
Vernon brings so much energy everytime he plays
Stellar performances like this is all the reason why I can't bring myself to attend a concert by them today. Unfortunately, most of the original band has moved on and I can't relate to replacements playing these jams.
I have to agree. Once Maurice was no longer able to perform, it just wasn’t the same. So glad I got to See them several years between 75 and 80
@@Torihope1000 Yes! Me, too. I saw them perform at the Arie Crown Theatre at McCormick Place in Chicago way back in the day. Phenomenal Live Band. My #1 Favorite Band.
i know... in their prime, there was nothing in music greater than the onstage energy and antics of Verdine White, Maurice White, Al McKay, Andrew Woolfolk, Larry Dunn, and Johnny Graham...seeing Philip & Ralph & Verdine have to carry on without those band members who have either left the group or departed this realm, is heartbreaking
One of my favs!💃🏽
freaking excellent....those guys are all about the music and feeling good about it...maurice has one of the greatest voices in r&b history.
rest in peace Maurice. I love your music and will to the day I die. Everyone..check him out doing the Kalimba song. He tears it up!

Verdine just kills me.Rhetorically speaking, how the f#$k can a guy stay in the pocket whilst demonstrating so much physical energy up there? He's just that good!
They were amazing back then and still killing it today.Loved them from the summer of '72 when I was turned on to them on a trip to San Fran way back when.
.
This song has a powerful message!!
Yes your right..power of satan.just saying
It's evil you know that they are prophets of Satan
Like prince,Michael and of course Earth wind and fire.im sorry to tell this but if you going to understand the lyrics.you will know it's satanic
Sad that these guys are singing the Devils anthem
@@amorcleopetampus751 wrong...apparently you dont even know the lyrics to the song
"..Maybe if we learn to pray,
life would lend us sunshiny days.
And evil runnnin' thru our brains, turns to love and won't be the blame.."
.dont judge a song by the title... learn it first, genius..
@@joannephilpot6481 read my above comment, and dont be as uninformed as the other one...
This is the classic lineup.Maurice white,Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Andrew Woolfolk, Larry Dunn, Fred White, Al McKay, Johnny Graham. the baddest group in the universe.
And Ralph Johnson
Agreed,my favorite lineup.
1973 was the year I graduated from high school, the same year this great song came out. RIP Maurice and all those that have past on in the music world from back in the day.
you old mutha ya got me by two years class of 75. EWF our soundtrack !!
LOL@Major Mazzaroth.
I 'm soooo old 1973 was the year I graduated from college. Saw EW&F twice in Indianapolis
@Carlos, YOU And My Mom, Class of 73
@@kaharold That would make your mother to be about 67 years old. I turned 67 years old in June 2022.
Should have been a hit in 1973. The only reason I can imagine that it wasn't is that there was so much amazing music in that era that it was crowded out. But we're still listening to it today.
TRUE
Those of us that were blessed to experience 1973; we were gifted with Earth Wind and Fire's motivating, beautiful, spiritual music containing a message of social change.
My friend and I working a summer job during landscaping at PSO summer 1973. So one day my friend says there’s new group Earth Wind and Fire with an album
entitled ‘Head to the sky.’ So we got paid headed to Tulsa, Oklahoma. ( Home of the Gap Band). We went by the record store and there it was about eight band members on the cover of the album. My friend bought the album and I bought the eight track. When I played it was like I’ve nothing I’ve heard drums, horns, percussion, tight vocals, and kalimba . (I later bought an alto
and tenor..) We then stopped by Lotta Burger and bought these huge hamburgers before taking off back home. And ever since then I saw them in concert winter of 1975, 2009 appearing with Chicago at zoo amphitheater in Oklahoma City, and about 2012 at the Choctaw Event Center in Durant, Oklahoma.. and of course bought most of their music on eight, cassette, cd, and concert DVD. It was the era of the bands and yes we came along at one of the best time.. Rest In Peace Maurice you created music that will last forever, LB Nov 2022
🤍
I'm 56 this yr. But was fortunate enough that my father was the Master of ceremony at their show in DC in 73-74, at the DC armory. They must've had a really good show because while I was riding my big wheel thru the crowd they got to fighting something serious in that joint. 20 some years later I brought it up to my father talking bout his good Ole days and he was shocked I could remember that far back 😂😂😂 the elements always been a part of my life ✌️💯🫡🐐
Just listen to that groove- wow
Anointed by Angels, that's all there is to it. Missing you, Sir Maurice White.
Can we say a jam session at its finest! All of these young artist out here need to take note this is how you perform, with energy, passion, heart and most of all talent! It actually takes skill to do what these guys are doing, no computer generated beats, sounds, melodies, instruments, or singing here, nothing but pure talent. And Mr. Verdine White is making that guitar sing right now!
I toured with them for a while and would like to know what happened to their roadies from 1973. They were all a blast! Great people as well as outstanding artists!
+Zonia Miller I Remember One was Gebbie Roba and one was Mick Morto not sure of the spelling but would love to know how they are doing.
You are a very lucky person to be there before That's the way of the world days!!!
Thanks for sharing your great memories.
My man had a genius for writing lyrics and adding a great melody to make magic.
I personally dig Boogie Wonderland, Shining Star, After The Love Has Gone and Of course their cover of the Beatlles' Got To Get You Into My Life just to name a few. God bless these guys for the message of peace and love.
Rest in peace Maurice White, you made the world a little bit better before leaving us. 🙏🏻❤✌🏾✊🏾
I remember going to a EWF concert and the atmosphere was so right! In listening to the music and harmony
I was lost in to another dimension
and time! Itt literally took me to a place
I never been before! That's what excellent music will do for you! These guys are just that great! There has never been a group that's done that before!
I was an experience I never witnessed
before! They are in a level all by themselves!
I was 19 when this came out I am telling my age now but, the point is that I loved these early albums! Open Our Eyes, That’s the Way of the World, Spirit....I could go on and on! I listen to them today to keep me grounded. Yes I miss you Maurice White but I know that you are singing with the angels, because our souls never die❤️♾☝🏼🙏🏽
Well said . Chuckle
The BEST group of ALL TIME! I used to rock this in my pre-teen and teen years! How did Verdine continue to play his bass to perfection with all of that dancing and bouncing?! The brother is Awesome!
I played this song back in the 70's over and over again, still sound good!
Evil . That's a good way to remember to stay away from it .
It's still a cool jam
the greatest band ever,no one even came close, the black beatles!they will rule forever, evil came out the year i graduated high school and i knew i had to be a musician from that day in 73!
Just so energetic and the ultimate musicians! I do miss this kind of music that i grew up on!
40 years ago and still sound good!
Why am I getting Cuba Gooding Jr vibes from looking at Maurice?? LOL! Anyway, I just saw them in Chicago this past weekend....just wow. I was in the presence of music legends! Music royalty! YES! LOVE EWF!!!
Love, love, love EWF--takes me back to Marverick's Flat in L.A. Verdine is the embodiment of someone that is totally PASSIONATE about their career. If only we could all love our jobs the way he does. Love you Verdine; miss you Maurice.
Oh Yeah !!!! Maurice and The Crew... They are and Will Always Be Considered One of The Most Influential R&B Groups of The Late 60' Early 70's. Rest in Power MW 💖💖
To Verdine AND Al McKay... It Takes Real Talent to Dance and Play Guitars at the same time, I Would of Been Fell OR Tripped Over Those Chords, The Energy They All Have is Awesome BUT Then Too THEY Were All in Their 20s On This Date October 1973,, Except Maurice HE Was in his 30s
This is my EWF..no dancers, no sideshow, just jamming.
Thanks to my mom and dad I grew up listening to EWF the BADDEST BAND GROUP of SINGERS.
Your mom and dad have good taste in music . EWF rocks !
Verdine White on the bass guitar has always been an energy powerhouse and still is today!
REST IN PEACE MAURICE! Brought us so many great songs through the years! Evil was one of my jams!
I did PR for a company called Ed White PR. First black-owned PR company in the music business. EWF was one of our clients, and I went to many gigs. Verdine White used to call me when he was on the road, because he missed LA, and would ask me to describe the weather and the palm trees. This was the greatest band ever, with the finest musicians on each instrument, and the brilliant arrangements of Charles Stepney & Reese White. Nothing even close to this exists today.
esquibelle Charles Stepney brilliant free.
Straight Classic ! This Group Was Ahead of it's Time , We Need Their Messages in 2022 !
RIP Maurice White , thank you for all your uplifting songs!! You have been part of my child hood..what a treasure to listen to your songs, while growing up ...you'r a shining star.....we loved you and will sing your songs for years to come....
Verdine White is one of the most underrated bass players in funk/soul history.
I remember this before they got real big. One of my fave.
Those dudes you remembered actually grew up during the EWF, Ohio players period which is why they sampled quite a few from that period. They made people do research and in essence brought them new fans. TCQ actually got me into Rotary Connection (minnie rimperton's old group before she went solo)
EWF the Great ones in 70s splendid music fussion fun jazz brazilian. Old times better times with groups like this.
Been a fan since age 3
Perfect combo of jazz chord progression, latin/afro rhythms and blues vocals, thanks Romy.
Well out WoWintosh!!!!
Man EWF "The Elements" is one of my all time favorite bands, real singers talented musicians their music is legendary.
I saw this live and it was one of the greatest live shows ever!!!
One of my all-time favourite songs from the greatest ever music band, period! That brotha Charles Stepney (RIP) was sheer genius in helping to get Maurice and the crew fine hone their hitherto freeer, less melodic driven, funky sound. Now make my Xmas even merrier by posting a video of the band performing 'Clover.'
I went to see Earth, Wind & Fire last night at the Wolf Trap, and it was amazing. They may be the best R&B Band. They even played this song.
A Shining past, example for the future. Funk Is the future !
it's ralph johnson . i met him 5 years ago in connecticut . then i ran into him again seattle doing an outside show three weeks later . they are so nice !!! ralph on drums
I grew up in the 70's and 80's in Detroit and even I know that Earth, Wind & Fire was on another level with their music. They managed to tap into the metaphysical, spiritual, Black consciousness and vainglorious ancient Black history for all of us to grove to using the universal language of music which is mathematics. There aren't to many bands that can do this and are still around. Peace to all universalist!
This was the first song I remember hearing by Earth, Wind and Fire, when it came out and I gotta say, as a twelve year old, I was blown away. I have been a super-fan ever since. The best band on the planet.
I'm feeling it this is one song by Earth Wind and Fire. I will never get tired of🎹🎶🎵🎼🎤🎸
This group influenced my whole life. This is just great to see this.
I seen them a few years later with Ramsey Lewis an the Emotions great Concert!
Randy Watson so did I with tge Pyramids in the background .I was truly moved by this show .. wish I could find it on dvd .
thank you, I love when maurice gives that little laugh, he has that way of added these little touches, because he's really into the feel of what he's singing. I love to watch him sing, also he's so handsome.
I could just cry ,i miss this music so much ewf!!!
I think is my favorite of all their fantastic songs-although its so hard to pick a favorite with so many awesome songs!
This is why the EWF is still worth the price of a ticket.
I wish they would release some more of this style of in your face type of funk and afro-rhythmic syncopation.
I miss Maurice so much, thank you for uploading this rare gem!
I TOTALLY AGREE!! Earth Wind & Fire is the greatest group EVER! I'ts amazing to see Verdine live, he still brings that same energy today!
This music made my childhood great!!
Rest In Sweet Peace
Maurice White
I have the original album, along with it's original inner sleeve. I have played, cheeristed and treasured this album since 1973, and although there are many albums (especially from the 70's era) that I also enjoy and that mean alot to me,I can definately say "The Head To The Sky Album" and particularly the instumental song "Zanzibar" are my alltime favorites.
Maurice White (rest on eternally brother) was the EPITOME playing the kalimba, an African instrument! 1973 WOW, I was 15 back then, time sure does fly by. This is when I first started listening to these Brothers. The music today is trash compared to what EWF put out consistently!!!
Can you imagine this in HD?
Fantastic.
Listening to EW&F wakes up the African spirit in me.
One Of The Very First Videos I Saw When I First Started Watching RUclips!!
Man this still sounds good as the first time it came out!
1 2 cha cha cha, 3 4 cha cha cha, brilliant combo of cha cha, montuno, and funk Ahhhhhhhhhh EWF the Great!!
I've always loved this song so happy to watch them perform it.
My favorite of all their great songs!
It is so hard for me to describe the feeling of EWF live. The music is so driving and the lyrics are so spiritual that it is almost a joke to describe the feeling to everyone that has not experienced it. Your words were dead on!
What an awesomg group and this is my favorite of all their songs. Thanx for posting this!
Die-Hard Forever Fan of EWF. Love them so much!!
wow! I can't remember when I last heard this, HELL yeah, you go Romy!!
EWF and Parliment Funkedelic had the Best live shows and the Quality of the music was amazing. EWF was more Afro Spiritually Funky with a lot of class. It was the Best of Times for AFROJAZZSOULROCK and R&B
I think this footage came from Don Kirshner's Rock Concert show. Great footage.
This song sounds more fun in concert n worth going to see this band
