You weren't at their show in Pittsburgh then :P They did AMAZING on all the songs they played that night, was very impressed with how good they sounded live
Alex Ruhmann naw they’re famous for being a reeeeeally tight sounding band. Them, RATM, and MUSE are well known for sounding better live than on album. Nirvana was like this too in the early days before Kurt picked up his heroin habit.
They must have a great sound guy who gets his way. Shows like these usually turn the guitars way down for rock and metal bands and it sounds like shit! Check out their performance on SNL in 1994. The guitars are monstrous!
Gotta love Tre's goofiness. My favorite is the performance of "Waiting" in which Tre dumps some kind of white substance all over himself during his break in the song and Billie Joe can't keep from laughing a little.

Temple is a little faster than the recording and a mistake at 1:06 but this still kicks butt. after I really listen to the lyrics this became one of my favorites green day songs
In this era he used three blue guitars. Watch Green Day at Sonic Italy and you will see the original blue during basket case and a different blue in standard tuning for prosthetic head. He had two used for standard tuning and one with the crumbs logo had a left handed strat bridge on it. The one used in this video has a right handed bridge. George Cole gave him the original guitar, you can hear Billie say that in an interview from 1995. Before Cole had it it belonged to a guy in Big Bang Beat.
i know in 2005 when i saw green day in buffalo i was about 7- 10 feet from the stage. i almost thought of it to be an honor for me to see the real blue up close (its really beat up looking) i've adored that guitar since starting to listen to green day in 95. i was also surprised to realize how small Billie Joe is up close. He can't be any taller than 5' 7" but his frame is also small.
I wanted to be a drummer, I have the perfect energy to do so. My parents said as long as they are alive, I am never playing drums :'(. So I have to play guitar
+5chemicalgreenladyway 18 Buy an electric. You don't have to replace the heads, and you don't have to worry about waking up your parents at 5 am because you want to drum.
I hit hard, and I've held onto the same head for quite a while. Even a worn out head sounds good when tuned well. it's sticks that break, although i've got some Vaters that have lasted months.
"There's a drought at the Fountain Of Youth" is an apropos line, since Billie Joe Armstrong looks younger now than he looked during this performance, 20yrs ago.

Wow, both vocally and instrumentally they play this almost studio-quality
Luke Eely that’s what’s great about Green Day!
Respect the sound engineering guys
The studio version is Green Day-quality.
Played this on guitar at school for the end of the year. It's very simple but fun
To be fair it’s an extremely easy riff I know that as I can play it and I’ve only be playing for a month
The way Tre Cool plays is so iconic. He sounds unreal here. They all. Perfect performance.

paul shaffer ladies and gentelman!!
3 people made this fucking sound. Fucking Lit.
Blue McDaniel No it was Green Day
Blue McDaniel technically 4 including the pianist
24 years later and that is still the best they ever played that song live.
You weren't at their show in Pittsburgh then :P They did AMAZING on all the songs they played that night, was very impressed with how good they sounded live
bullet in a bible >
They were also really good at goat island back in 2000. Solid performance
Nimrod is gonna have an album anniversary soon
@@st4t1cpr3v41ls yeah it just did like a few weeks ago
1:11 Jesus christ tre calm down
He looks like he’s having a seizure.
That's the thing... *He never calms down.*
He was always extra extra when they were on Letterman and it was beautiful.
i'd hate to be that snare drum
Agreed
When Mike had sleeves..
Mike*
***** I edited it, I think I typed "Mark" in a moment of weakness xD
The sleeves are back in 2020. What a shame. Smh.
The sound quality of this is unreal, specifically the drums. I dont know if it was their sound guy or whatever but it is great.
I agree
Either he just killed it better than usual or they used a backing track[i definitely dont think they would use one tho]
Alex Ruhmann naw they’re famous for being a reeeeeally tight sounding band. Them, RATM, and MUSE are well known for sounding better live than on album. Nirvana was like this too in the early days before Kurt picked up his heroin habit.

The sound quality was always good on the Letterman show. They had some good sound people.
bruh it sounds like shit wdym
Holy shit balls, they're so tight. Tre is a goddamn beast on the kit. Human Metronome.
Paul Shaffer nails the violin part.
I know I do

green day at its peak, im glad i grew up with them as my favorite band
The crescendo was Good Riddance, and then they changed
Ya me too
2:42 Why is no one talking about this?! I've been laughing over this for 10 minutes now!! The way he hightails it off the stage is hilarious!
ablecanister yeah I love it
He's a very troubled youngster ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Tré is awesome.

Alexander B it was tre cool
he shreds his guitar perfectly. i dont have words to express how much i love the solo.
That word shred, I don't think it means what you think it means.
that's not shredding lol, those are just octaves played with a moderately fast stroking
Woe, woe, i'm not saying that he's not an amazing guitarist, which he is, but shredding is a completely different thing. And i'm not into metal lol
Lexi Manning he's just playing 5 power chords,
@@bjorksarmpits148 octaves not power chords for the solo
Man, this performance was on point!
Getting Paul on that violin part was awesome
And backing vocals at the end too. Dunno why I was so impressed by that lol

I don't listen to Green Day all the time, but when I do, so does my neighborhood
This is the best performance of the best Green Day song, hear Billie screaming effortless is amazing wow
These guys are so f*cking good live it's unbelievable
Tré doesn't even look real for most of this, that's how you animate during a (kind of) simplistic beat! What a showman, love it!
I love hitching a ride
Ever since 39' Smooth - they have been, and always will be one of my favourite bands. What an amazing performance!
What a huge sound from a 3 piece, Jesus.
tight as hell, they look sick, great intro by letterman as usual, tre with the funny exit... perfect performance

Love how Mike drops the bass at the end
Letterman was clearly their favorite to play on. They always delivered. And getting Paul involved? Chefs kiss

Playing 50% faster than album cut. Nice!
Hella yeah Paul being a part of it.
They're in the zone on this one! They're feeling it
HOLY SHIT this video has an incredible energy hahahah
