  • In this video I demonstrate how to wrap an ankle sprain with an elastic bandage. Wrapping a sprained ankle with an elastic bandage provides compression, stability and comfort when the proper ankle sprain bandage technique is used. Ankle sprains are a very common injury but can heal pretty quickly when the right ankle sprain treatment is performed. In this nursing skill tutorial, I walk you through how to wrap an ankle step by step and also review the RICE acronym which is rest, ice, compression and elevation. This should be explained to your patient before discharge.
    There are many different brands of elastic bandage wraps, however ACE is the most widely known brand.
    ACE 4 Inch Elastic Bandage with Clips, Beige: amzn.to/3muADoI
    NexSkin Elastic Compression Wrap, 4 inch Pack of 2: amzn.to/35vbyo8
    Scrubs seen in this video:
    Grey's Anatomy 4153 Women's Mock Wrap Top: amzn.to/3iq6Aw1
    Grey's Anatomy Women's 4232 Drawstring Scrub Pant: amzn.to/2EVWjKl

    • @thesunnyedge
      @thesunnyedge  3 года назад +5

      Hi, thank you! So circulation naturally slows when we are sleeping and when there is compression applied to an extremity, that not only removes fluid/swelling but also decreases the ability of fluid to move back in to the extremity. So the concern is that circulation to the extremity would be decreased if compression is applied while sleeping.

      you welcome it is true!! if you were in the middle of nowhere and broke a leg are ankle could slpint it about the same way?? i know you wouldn,t need if you were just waiting hour for help lets said it takes days than u would want it slpinted?

    • @thesunnyedge
      @thesunnyedge  3 года назад

      Gosh I hope nobody ends up stuck for days in the middle of nowhere with a broken leg. 😳 I suppose in that situation you would have to just do the best you can and stabilize the injury with what you have (hopefully an ace wrap or two) until you can get further help.

    Thanks, but... ... 1st of all, you are holding the bandage wrong -- upside down -- which is why you have such a hard time smoothing it and 2ndly, this should be done with a 3 inch bandage. Otherwise, the technique seems OK. good luck!
