I'm chuckling at the non-chronological cuts, like when he's trying to jump off the nut, breaks it and shows that he got the moon, then breaks it two more times and the moon is still there. And the sneakier one, when he "finally" reaches Captain Toad in Wooded but you can tell from the speech bubble that he's already collected the moon, and then he cuts to collecting the moon.

Also the main thing is, I already see what they want me to do, and I know I can do it. It's also always fun to see how far you can push your skills to trump the original design. That said, I often ask myself the same question: "Why don't I just follow the path they laid out for me?" It feels boring, "expected". I believe it's a mindset of different people and maybe indeed you'll never understand it, but it's the basics behind speedrunnîng. Finding shortcuts unexpected by the devs; And I do have a lot of fun with it. Def a fun way to play games for me. I just sometimes have too high expectations from the devs, because in some games, the eccentric exploration does pay off. In fact there are quite a few obscure spots where you're rewarded with something in Odyssey. But it's just how this game is designed, they don't want anything meaningful to be found behind the curtains, and that's totally fine with me.

For example, when I noticed a small floating platform in New Donk City, I didn't know you need to take a pipe in that crowd mini game to get there. So I teleported to the highest tower, activated the time challenge for the extra platforms, performed a long jump at the edge, waited for the right timing to throw my hat and then do a dive jump. After another dive jump, I'm there. Now THAT felt good!

Dunkey feels so confident in the video. I think the moves and tricks he did are actually made by him and since there are so many recommended videos about tricks in Mario Odyssey. I havent seen one complete Lost kingdom without a hat or (is there really a video) or something in the last part.

Mario Odyssey is great because even taking the long difficult way is still fun and rewarding and makes you feel like you figured out an interesting way to accomplish something simply like getting to a platform in a way that most people probably haven't thought of.
The game does not have 'Great' level design. The level design is okay... Every moon is just so damn easy to get. I still liked the game overall, but it's definitely not as good as everyone makes it out to be. 7/10 would MAYBE play again?
He talked about this on the h3h3 podcast in depth. He said it takes months of playing Overwatch to get 4 mins of good footage anymore. Most of the funny stuff has been done so it's hard to get something worth saving so it's rarely worth his time.

Mario Odyssey is great because even taking the long difficult way is still fun and rewarding and makes you feel like you figured out an interesting way to accomplish something simply like getting to a platform in a way that most people probably haven't thought of.

The game does not have 'Great' level design. The level design is okay... Every moon is just so damn easy to get. I still liked the game overall, but it's definitely not as good as everyone makes it out to be. 7/10 would MAYBE play again?
