The sequels are worth a watch, but my favorite movie by these writers/directors is Top Secret! (1984). Definitely one that has to be watched many times to catch all the jokes.
Oh! Pre-Batman Val Kilmer! Yes, more from the funny-stupid (except actually quite clever) category. Bring it!
@johankaewberg8162 Was literally Val's first movie! But it mostly parodies Elvis movies of the 60s and heavily references The Blue Lagoon and Cold War East Germany, none of which millennials know much about. But "Musical spy parody" is all you really need to know.
21:40 They're eating pistachio nuts. Pistachio shells used to be dyed red, and the color would come off on your fingers and lips while you were eating them.
But WHY did You do that? A simple dane asking?
@@dallesamllhals9161 Pistachios used to be imported into the US from Iran. The harvesting and drying process used created unappetizing stains on the shells. Red dye was used to conceal the stains and make the nuts look more appealing but the dye tended to come off on fingers and lips. In the 1980s, domestic production of pistachios improved, the shells were unstained, and the red dye was no longer needed.
@@bobbuethe1477 I'll be god da%#/"
I still don't get: Why RED!? ..better dead than etc. 😕
PS And still You gave 'em F-14s 😛
I think the dye was applied by the sellers, not on the receiving end.
@@bobbuethe1477 ..so...erh dyed RED by 'muricans for 'muricans? I'm so slow...
20:45 - The joke here is that Platoon was a graphic (and at the time controversial) war film, so the idea of a couple going to see it on a date and coming out of it laughing hysterically is pretty silly.
lol someone in the comments said it was a "happy first date" movie
@@CampCrystalCharlieplatoon is a very blood movie dude. 😂
The scene is hilarious ?
Imagine get out of theather after saving privaty ryan laughing ?
The player trying to kill the Queen was HOF Legend Reggie Jackson!!
I remember when Reggie even had his own candy bar at one point
Leslie Nielsen is a legend. These films are not only fantastically written (the script is incredible), but Nielsen's performance is perfection. As a note, the leaders at the beginning were famous world leader at the time 🙂 Oh and the car intro is a masterpiece 😂
He was cast as the handsome leading man in movies and TV until "Airplane "!
" Forbidden Planet" is a Sci-fi classic! Considered a forerunner of "Star Trek".
He also guest stars on numerous TV series.
From Hawaii 5-0/MASH/Kojak/Columbo/ Love Boat and the list goes on and on and...
"Wrongfully Accused" is hilarious with the same actor, Leslie Neilson. Its a spoof of the movie "The Fugitive" with Harrelson Ford.
The Naked Gun is part of a trilogy of movies. The second one is The Naked Gun:2-1/2 The Smell of Fear and the third is The Naked Gun:33-1/3 The Final Insult. All are worth watching and have the same basic cast but new villains. They're all funny!
I'm 56 and saw this at the theater and the reason I watch reaction channels is to see if people younger than me still find the same things funny , If it held up I guess . Had a good time with this one !
I can only imagine a theater experience with Leslie on the screen 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
the baseball announcer joke is that the last person was Dr Joyce Brothers. She was a noted psychologist.
the baseball player was none other than legendary Yankee Reggie Jackson (who was playing for the the Angels at the time of the movie).
The song playing during the montage was I'm into something good - by 60s pop band Hermans Hermits. Lead singer is Peter Noone who would be well known for starring in a series of Time Life Books infomercials where they would sell music tapes and cds. Much like the columbia House records 9 albums for a penny.
Top Secret! is another movie from the directors.
Hot Shots! and Hot Shots Part Deux is another movie parody based on the Top Gun and other action movies. worth checking out.
You should check out Wrath of Khan, it has Ricardo Montalban ( the bad guy) in it one of his best performances ever.
Pretty cool connection; the actress that plays the mayor also played Tony Soprano's mom in The Sopranos.
24:44 "Meet him at the 7th Street stockyards, by the 53rd Street entrance."
I've never heard anyone laugh at that line. Just how big are the stockyards?
35:52 "Things I never knew were there before... Stop lights."
That's another one.
OJ killed it in this movie.
27:50 They're all popular sportscasters, except for Dr. Joyce Brothers, who was a trendy TV psychologist... kind of like the Dr. Phil of the 1970s.
21:40 They're eating pistachios. They used to sell them with a red dye on them to look fancy.
Wow! Now that is wild to think we painted them red at one point
Yes he's is Frank Drebin. Someone pretending to be him called to relieve the officer at the hospital.
oooooh ok so someone pretended to be him. Now it makes sense I thought he did it himself 😂😂😂😂
It's almost like the bad guy had an island that made fantasy come true, let's hope his wrath don't spread
I had my suspicions that he might be a Khan artist.
Leslie Nielson is also the President in Scary Movie 3 and 4, probably the only reason I remember those movies
He sure the FREAK WAS in 3.. YOOOOO
I’m sure it’s been mentioned but the player turned assassin is Reggie Jackson
You got to check out The Forbidden Planet Leslie Nielsen plays the space ship captain.
Dude you laugh how I laugh when I’m stoned. I wish I saw this movie for the first time stoned but I was 10.
Subbed!
Reggie Jackson! Most famous baseball player alive at the time.
They were eating pistachios . They used to sell pistachios that were dyed red . They would always turm your fingers red .
I just read that lol that was wild to paint them in dye 😂😂😂😂😂
I so enjoy "watching" movies with you! Thank you for making them and please continue to.
You have to watch Leslie Nielsen interviews, he would use a fart machine to prank the interviewer lol
It says " Let'er Rip" on his gravestone. A final bit of humor and acknowledgment to his favorite prank!
I met him and his wife a few times in his later years when they would come to some of the restaurants in Lauderdale by the Sea.
The baseball player shooting the queen was Reggie Jackson.
The opening was making fun of a lot of cop show openings from the sixties and seventies.
Those are pistachios. Back then, the shells of pistachios were dyed red, and the color would get all over your fingers and lips.
Bro this shit was Beyond Funny speacialy that intro🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol bro the OJ caught me off guard so from there on it was curtains for me 😂😂😂
Not a lot of scenes are spoofs of other movies.
Like when he enters his apartment and the girl is there wearing just a shirt come right out of James Bond Dr No.
The line about when I see 5 weirdos in togas stabbing a man, is a copy of a similar scene from Dirty Harry
the guy falling into the vat of toxic waste come from Batman (1989)
It's funny how none of these reactors don't know Mr. October, Reggie Jackson.
Dr Joyce was a sex therapist that got famous for openly discussing sex on television
OJ was supposed to be The terminator. But the old football star who appeared in a movie about the intended nuclear destruction of the united states, thought The Terminator was beneath him, so he passed.
I'm so glad you watched this film! Keep on doing what you do. Shine on!
I would describe Leslie's form of Comedy as a straightman taken to the extremely absurd world. My first naked gun movie was 33 1/3 when i was a kid at like 14 so you for sure dont need the refrences to enjoy it.
Yeah there's Naked Gun 2.5 The Smell of Fear, etc. 🙂 they're all pretty funny 🙂
If bad movies were ever done well, or well done movies ever done badly, this might be it. What tf just happened to me? Nothing that hasn't happened before. Love the cast, esp Ricardo Montalban
Just imagine all that rich Corinthian leather that must have burned up because of Lt. Drebin.
The trilogy is worth it. The first & last ones are my favorite, but all 3 are good. You might also want to check into the short-lived series the movies are based off of, it was ahead of it's time & a victim of bad timing. Hollywierd doesn't make these kinds of movies anymore, unsure if it's because they're unwilling or unable to do so. Weird Al did a cameo in all 3 movies, apparently he was a fan of the short-lived series.
To your question at 21:45, back then they painted pistachio nuts red, made them more aesthetically pleasing. It's still done around Christmas time. At the 24:04+ ish mark, what Drebbin would say in that part is a nod the the original Dirty Harry film, where Callahan says something similar to SFs mayor.
This basically a live Looney Tunes cartoon. The jokes were random for when was released
If you want to see more Airplane! style humor, check out Top Secret!, Loaded Weapon, Hot Shots and Hot Shots Part Deux and Mafia! All of them are hilarious.
Thanks for the list and believe me, I'll be checking out all of these simply because you all have been putting them in the range of Airplane
Agreed!!
"Drebin, I don't want anymore trouble like you had last year on the South Side. Understand? That's my policy."
"Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's MY policy."
"That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of JULIUS CAESAR, you moron! You killed 5 actors! Good ones."
Fun Fact: This is one of three 1988 comedies that features a scene in which a villain is run over by a steamroller. The others are A Fish Called Wanda (1988) and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).
Ed Recasting Fact: According to David Zucker in the DVD commentary, the studio insisted on the casting of an Oscar winner in one of the major roles. This led to the casting of George Kennedy, who had been actively campaigning for the role of Ed Hocken for several months, saying that he was furious at having missed his chance to spoof himself in Airplane! (1980).
Name Change Fact: This movie is a big-screen continuation of the cult cop spoof series Police Squad! (1982). The title was changed to avoid confusion with the Police Academy film franchise, which was also co-created by Pat Proft. David Zucker remembers that they were given a list of about twenty potential titles, and they chose "The Naked Gun" because it promised so much more than it could possibly deliver.
great reaction! I hope you at least watch the second naked gun movie.. I always loved it the most of the series
Thanks and I will for sure.
This is one of the GOATs
I can definitely see how
Oh hey! This is where you've been all this time! I was a fan of your other channels years and years ago if you remember lol. Glad you're still around and uploading keep it up bro!
I’m so glad that you educated thou self. 🤓
😂😂😂
i always saw this movie in the shelf at blockbuster but never watched it before.
it was like leslie nielson was austin powers before mike meyers was. i think there was a get smart don adams reference too with the shoe weapon, because maxwell smart always had a shoe phone. lol
i think the dude that got ran over with the steam roller was the dude from that show fantasy island. the one where that little dude always yelled "the plane, the plane!"
Great reaction, nice review!
Best reaction ever to this one for sure Charlie! 😂😭💀
😂😂😂😂😂
If he hadn't have been a victim of that one horrible tragedy OJ could very well be remembered today as an all-time great actor. Sad.
Great reaction
Appreciate you, Zae. =D
If we start avoiding the work of artists who had, or have or will have something uncomfortable about them, all of the libraries, dramatic and historical works and music storage facilities would now be almost empty. If, within their own lifetime they are doing something reprehensible, yes they must be held accountable,
Edgar Allen Poe was an adict, some of our best composers for centuries had screwed lives and/or perspectives on the world. Or a kindly view unapproved by their governments. This goes on and on through human history. I tend to take art on its own merrits otherwise most of Western Culture gets buried.
It’s one that aged well in an unintentional way. Back then, it was “Oh no, all these bad things are happening to OJ’s character!” Now it’s “Oh good!”
You've seen Airplane! and now Naked Gun, now you should watch SpyHard. Yeah, Leslie Neilsen is in that too. It's a spoof of the James Bond type movies.
I could’ve pointed out certain celebrities that you didn’t recognize with back stories blah blah blah. I just wanted to enjoy your reaction with you going in as a younger generation/ virgin to these movies. It was well worth it. 👏🏼
Fell free to do so though, that way I can recognize them in the future.
wait till you watch the Leslie Neilson cartoon "zeroman" its a fun canadian cartoon.
do have one im sure youd enjoy but cant react to it as disney owns the monetization but Mike Jittlov uploaded the movie to youtube as one final "screw you" to disney that practically stole it from him, its a Live action indoor outdoor stop motion musical, in 79 n the full movie in 88
Yooooo I didn't even know he had a cartoon. Since Disney has it, is it still Leslie Neilsan style of humor?
I hope so.
The killer baseball player was played by real MLB Reggie Jackson.
ooooooooh! Gotcha.
Just boiling a roast
😂😂😂😂 chilllllll
21:44 they were eating cashews in red shells which was a popular snack back then. Sometimes the red dye would stain your lips if you ate a lot of them
Oooooooh ok ok 😂😂
The shells are easy to crack with your teeth, but you see the results of doing that.
The bad guys trick the receptionist that he was Officer Frank Drebin to get to the target
Thanks!
No problem and thanks back to you =D
My man played baseball and don’t know Reggie Jackson? Damn, I’m old.😎🤔😁
[deleted] gives good advice!
Don’t know if you realize it, or if anybody already told you, but that pretty blonde is Priscilla Presley…wife of King Elvis.🤔😎
The concept behind these movies was cram in as many jokes, and as many kinds of jokes as possible, most won't land with all of the audience, but you only need to make people laugh once every ten minutes for them to enjoy a comedy.
As opposed to modern comedies where it's the same thing over and over.
Which they did because while editing I picked up like 10 more jokes I miss during the initial watch 😂😂😂😂
Mr. October; is the assassin.
Wrongfully Accused is another good Leslie Nielssen movie
mate, you are extremely funny. sub and like ofc :D
Thanks and welcome to the channel =D
I used to religously watch your comment awards vids. I miss them so much. No cap my favorite videos eber on yt i binge watch those for hours.
yoooooooooooooo!!!! I forgot about those 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I used to watch them egregiously.
They are eating Red pistachio nuts .
so I've heard 😂😂😂😂
@2:30 "a lot of this is going to go over my head. There is an age gap." Absolutely understandable. Around that table you had: Gorbachev (President of the USSR and a pro-Western reformer - now deceased), Ayatollah Khomeini (former Supreme Leader or Iran and tied to the US Embassy Hostage Crisis - now deceased), Libyan President for Life 1942-2011 Muammar Khadhafi - deceased - finally deposed and killed in a revolution by his own populace - linked to the Lockerbie Scotland Airline bombing and other terrorist bombings), and Idi Amin (genocidal formal dictator of Uganda - now deposed and deceased). Quite the lot of awful people.
@9:08 What's really funny is that Leslie Nielsen used to be a solely "straight" (serious) actor, including I believe playing a doctor on a daytime soap opera for many years. His comedic roles only came later in life.
Platoon isn't a happy first date movie
lol that makes sense now 😂😂
Check out Hot shots parts 1& 2
Platoon is a bloody and serious War movie no comedy making the two seem sadistic
I think you meant Police Acadamy not Police Squad but neither here or there. Stay cool
ooooooh!! Appreciate it 😂
If watching comedies from the 70s and 80s you need to read about Dr Joyce Brothers. She was well known psychologist also known for a million tv and movie cameos. Always as herself and spouting snippets of wisdom.
One character asked her how long she planned to do this. She answered," As long as there's a breath in my body!!"
However, something she _wasn’t_ is a sports announcer, but she definitely popped up everywhere. 😄
You got a cute smile
over0the-head joke #1 the ayatollah khoeini, supreme cleric of Iran, probably did not in fact have an orange mohawk.
😂😂😂😂
can i recommend a great action movie "four brothers" u can check out the trailer, no spoilers in it
Actually there's one small disappointment if you watch Police Squad. This movie reuses some of the jokes. So you'll see a few of the same exact jokes done over.
I hear you but as long as it's delivered in a good way, I'll still take it 😂😂😂
where they hell have you been??
Why nobody react to "airplane 2" ?
Wait..... There's an Airplane 2????????? 😮
@@CampCrystalCharlie yes my Friend "airplane : the sequele" (1982). Very funny too
LOVE the reaction!! :) Maybe check out Police Squad!!! :) and NEIL PEART Buddy Rich HONOR?????!!!!!!!!! :) ♥AND, or... Victor Wooten bass magic????????? :) “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~ Romans 15:13
The public O.J. seemed nice and it didn't hurt that he was a very handsome man. I did and do like him in the Naked Gun movies (and I believe he was also in The Towering Inferno). I guess he was a way more better actor than he was given credit for, when you think of his history of domestic abuse, even before 1994, that the public had no knowledge of.
Yeah that is true. People can become whoever they want behind a camera =/
Is this Drake?
bro, you gotta fix your audio...you are super loud with echoing and I just can't. eek
I really enjoyed you and yojr girl watching robocop. Please do one with her with these type of movies all naked guns and leslie nelson type of movies.
Appreciate it. We got more coming together
To which is own but I would not knowingly watch anything that a murderer was in that's for d*** sure a double murderer was in. That's for damn sure a double motor at that
I could write for an hour and still not make you get who John Houseman is. He played the driver's ed instructor.🧓🎭📽️🧠😎💋
I take it he's legendary? 😅
@@CampCrystalCharlie Yes, he was a pioneer in the early 20th century as a theater and film producer (he collaborated with Orson Welles). As an actor, he excelled at playing stern, humorless authority figures (but this could be used to comical effect, like in this movie). In the 1970s he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the movie "The Paper Chase." He was also known for his Smith Barney commercials ("They make money the old fashioned way...they eaaaarn it!"). I think "Naked Gun" was his final film role.
