What a lot of beautiful fish! It's always great to see someone catching brookies without worms, it gives me more hope for my chances lol. Better for the fish too. Isn't it weird having a protected season on invasive bass? Can't be good for the trout population.
Well you count me out then . Always use worms . What's the harm? I use single hooks and don't even use a landing net or even touch the fish . The lakes i fish have no bass in them .
@@alexs3447 I never use worms cause I don't wanna go get them. Price of gas or time. That's about the only reason. But live bait is more likely to get swallowed deep. Not that it would be a problem for me, I'm fishing for keeps.
@@CanadianSledDog My experience is that if you run out of worms the trip is over .I use a single hook so if its deep i have mini side cutters cut the shaft of the hook .I release almost all the fish i catch .
Hey Liam, ya you definitely don't need worms it's too much of a hassle on a longer backcountry trip. They'd probably all die. In good brookie lakes you don't need them. The protected season for zone 15 which covers all of Algonquin. There are some bass only lakes outside the park where it makes sense...but ya it doesn't make sense in Algonquin in my opinion. I'd love to see them all gone here. Thanks for watching the video!
@@AleconAdventures Got to disagree . Have carried worms on 5 day trips and could have done longer . Just get the right containers .Been on some good lakes and worms were still useful. I usually went solo and carrying worms and a small sonar unit was not a hassle. And i am single tripping portages . Its a question of organization and good equipment choices . But watching many youtube videos i realize i may have been a brute in the bush.
Nice trip. Typical fishing grass is always greener, you portage 3 difficult lakes and catch 2 beauty monster specs, looked liked 2 and 4lbs, right off your camp, lol. Imagine how the fishing must be in the centre of the park, cheers🎉
Nice backcountry canoeing Alec. Hard to beat that Algonquin scenery. Those fish have beautiful colour that time of year. Good to see you back on RUclips!
I always enjoy seeing new parts of Algonquin, it's such a special park. I've been very busy this spring/early summer but I'm settled now and should be posting more regularly. Thanks Ian!
Definitely worth the effort for fish like that! It was an awesome trip, I felt very fortunate to be out there. Life got pretty busy, with a move and the start of our busy season at work. Haven't had a chance to get out much lately, but have a big trip coming up this month! Thanks for watching.
went to the same place this spring it aaa my second time there .. I knew where u were going pretty early in the video .. some killer fishing in those lakes .. I'm not naming them either lol
Watching you paddle that Langford with a conventional paddle is fantastic. I own an ultralight Nahanni . You got some nice specks and cudos on releasing them. And keeping the area secret .
Hey Alex, I've had my Langford since I was a teenager and have always enjoyed solo paddling with it- I use a Badger Sliver mostly. The Nahanni is a beautiful canoe too. It was a really awesome trip, felt fortunate to be there. Thanks for watching.
@@AleconAdventures Only paddle mine it tandem and only 3 times at that. Have it leant out now to a woman who has paddled it solo and tandem and thinks its a great canoe .My solo is a 15 ft UL nova craft bob special. Have had it since 1990 .
Just returned from a brookie trip in Algonquin. Those fish you caught put my success to shame. Guess I gotta head back, put some more time in and find those tankers.
Dude, that brook trout at 14:22 was bleeding like a siv, due to those dreaded treble hook lures. Too bad people don't utilize split rings and swap out for a single hook. That beautiful brookie most likely died.
@@AleconAdventures I would be surprised if that fish lived. Glad to hear you are going to utilize split rings and swap out the dreaded trout mangle mouth treble hooks for a single hook. More people need to study coldwater fish, or take classes and learn best management practice for conservation. If only more people would have the self consciousness to utilize split rings and single hooks for conservation. Even if the greedy corporations don't have split rings on their lures, that is still no excuse, because one can just cut the treble hook trout mangle mouths off and add a split ring and single hook.
Sir, AWESOME FOOTAGE, are there any specific books you would recommend a guy invest in to plan trips based on brookies? What is the price ya spend on a trip for sites? Is the booking hard to come by?
The Friends of Algonquin sell books about Algonquin and the fishing, nothing specific to recommend. Backcountry park permits cost around $16 per night for adults plus a small reservation fee. Booking demand varies, July and August weekends are very busy.
Hey glad you enjoyed it! There was lots of portages to get into these areas. I portaged into some lakes that weren't on main canoe routes and followed a creek into one lake. Lots of distance travelled, but well worth it. Thanks for watching the video!
Nice peaceful, relaxing, successful trip! Very sportsman like to release all of them beauties but I would’ve forgiven you if you had eaten just oneof them. You couldn’t buy any tastier fish. 🛶🎣🍽️
It was a great trip, felt very fortunate to be there. Agreed Brook Trout is delicious,. Guess I just felt better releasing them all this time. Thanks for watching!

Beautiful brookie. That's a good size for Algonquin.
Some big ones in that lake.

Those were some tubby Brookies, wow! Thanks for sharing your fishing trip! :) :)
Yes they we're haha! Thanks for watching the video Jacqueline.
Always fun to see you exploring Algonquin and those were some thick Brookies!
Algonquin is pretty special! Love finding new fishing holes. Thanks for watching!
Great video I watched it twice. Glad the fish are bitting on your trip. Will be looking for your next video.
Hey glad to hear you enjoyed it. Fishing is better that time of year in the early spring. Thanks for watching, twice!
Wow, amazing Brookies. It’s worth the effort to get into those more remote lakes for sure. Nice to see you back on the small screen 😊

Some really nice brookies for sure. Glad you enjoyed thanks for watching!
I done trips by myself and I love it but I hate it. Better with someone!!
Both have their perks! I enjoy solo trips but also love doing trips with Paige and Lucy.
Great stuff. Love the video.
Thank you!

It's great to find big ones but any day catching trout is a good one. Thanks for checking out the video!
About to do my own trip up at st.regis
Good to hear.
Awesome video! Your channel looks really cool, can't wait to see more!! Just subbed too👊
Thank you so much 😁

I am planning to switch out my trebles for singles, it is good for conservation. I personally don't think the fish died.

we made it to those lakes in one day ..what tkme of the year did u go . we went mid may
It was last spring either 2nd or 3rd week of May. There was an extreme heat wave for that time of the year.
@@AleconAdventures we were there around the same time .. probably just before or after u
Great video!! do you ever need any company out there? Been there once would love more experience
I've got lots of adventure buddies and enjoy solo trips so no need for new paddling partners. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful fish.. I enjoyed the vid and vibe!
I gotta ask.. did you go to any lakes that weren't connected to portages?

pretty much just bass om that lake
Seemed that way!
the one lake is loaded with brookies ..
The one lake was a clear winner on my trip. Thanks for watching!
The worst part about getting a trophy in the algonquin back country/ getting a trophy and not being able to get it to a taxidermist!!
At least the park rules protect the fishery and all the pristine brook trout lakes. Thanks for watching!
