My mother took a popup tent on wheels with five young children to Algonquin. We would watch the black bears visit the camp dumpsite in the evening. The bears would visit the campground at night! We went on to St
Sue Marie and then stayed at a Canadian campground near Lake Ontario. Got to visit Montreal and saw my great grandfather, he a painter of scenery of Montreal. We returned through Lake George, NY to Washington, NJ. Wonder why you don't save the water you have cooked for drinking. Wouldn't it be safe to drink.😊

Great weather for that time up there!!! wanting shade at the end of September and swimming. Your loop was our first trip around 2000. We didn't know what we were doing, didn't know the canoe was suppose to go on our head. I remember an uphill monster to begin, and our first campsite on trout Lake, and losing my $300 oakleys on the nipissing, and a quaint old quiet outfitting office, but can't recall anything I just watched. In all these years I have never camped on a river or swam in one. It's probably WAY more likely to see a moose though. Maybe a bear too. TY

Yeah I do think the rivers usually make the wildlife viewing more probable, cos they cross from side to side and kind of bottleneck wildlife sometimes around certain passings..
Both moose seen were on rivers on this trip. Petawawa and Nip.

After your trip with the UK boys I knew you'd be back. Algonquin is that kind of place. The loons still call me. I've done that same loop several times but I always went up the Nippissing and down the Petawawa back to Cedar. I've stayed in several of the same campsites. That site at the top of Burnt Root is one of my favorites. There is a path from there back to the bottom of the rapids where the fishing is the best in the park. I'm surprised you didn't visit the root cellar there, it is a magical spot.

Sorry to sound greedy, but I would love to see a 'Prep for the journey' video - how you sort out transporting paddles on a plane, getting to where are going, booking a canoe/kayak at your destination, what food will I need, which maps... planning sort of thing...

thanks so much!! I know re the bear hanging you're right.
The truth is, the gap between the theory and practise sometimes is too wide to bridge. Like having the right trees, or having the skills and time/energy to set up a line from two trees etc when a single tree isn't adequate.

Don't fool yourself, logging in Algonquin is still alive and well. There's nothing like portaging and canoeing for 5 days and coming across a logging road and seeing a couple of semi's hauling fresh cut trees out of the park. There is no such thing as pristine in Algonquin, there are several private cottages and logging roads throughout the park.
