    I went into my 14yo son’s room last week and he was watching cow hoof-trimming videos. He said they had just popped up on his Shorts page. I told him to check out the Hoof GP and now he’s addicted! He and I are bonding over your videos and merch. 😂😊

    We live in a small city, however, there is a dairy farm around the corner from us. My favorite site is seeing the calves feeding and their little tails wagging! So sweet!
    The city was a very small town until the early sixties. At that time, the NASA program was getting off the ground (hey, that was good, if I do say so myself!) and my father was transferred here by his company. The town, at that time, was still rural enough that where my parents built our house was considered the "country." There was a dairy farm (not the one of which I spoke in paragraph one) about a half a mile away. Neither of my parents were country people, and so really knew next to nothing about country life or farm animals. One morning at about two a.m., we children heard a commotion and looked out our back bedroom windows to see my father standing on the patio, telling a cow to "shoo, shoo!" Of course, as you can imagine, the cow was not impressed. Over the years, that farmer sold off more and more of his land, Our house was built on some of that land, so I suppose the cow felt that we were the ones who should "shoo!"
    The elementary school was about a mile away, so we got to say hello to the cows every day walking to school. We picked the Queen Anne's lace that grew next to the pasture and would bring it to our teachers as a gift. Those were good days.

      @cindyloomis-torvi3396 9 месяцев назад +2

      😆.
      We ran a small organic produce farm, and both my parents worked 5-7 days a week. My dad helped build buildings by constructing elevators for skyscrapers, including what is the GM Renaissance buildings in Detroit, and he also worked across the border in Windsor. My mother taught kindergarten to 8th grade for 42 years. Mother really never minded the summer farming clothes, but often the pits of elevators are not much different than the cow sheds, just a smaller space. So. Dad had his own shower in the basement, the winter clothes, boots, etc had one place in the house by the door and they were out away once spring time arrived.
      Here in Calgary, I only change out clothes for “summer “ which usually lasts from June 15-September 25th. Our coats are never put away, simply because one packs as if they might be caught in a winter snow storm when traveling to the upper elevations. We carry full emergency kit, blankets, all outerwear, chains for the truck tires if necessary, and enough dried food to sustain us for at least 4-6 days. It can snow in the mountains any time of year. Likewise we can have snow downslope anytime of year, but generally last snow is June 1st unless we had a winter drought. Fall snow is mid October, but then we get mild temperatures that you’re experiencing. The temperatures in fall bounce around a lot. Where I grew up in Michigan, the cold winter is exceedingly damp, wet, and can reach -45 C or more. There is not just the Great Lakes but inland lakes that contribute to snow fall and depth of cold. As a kid in high school, I waited for the bus in -35fF / -42C before. The school just behind our bus stop was gracious enough to let us stand in the lobby, while the janitor called the bus garage to tell the, where their students were sheltering.
      Calgary kids go to school in all sorts of weather too. But due to the lack of humidity, the snow is usually dryer, excellent for skiing, and lakes sometimes freeze faster. It’s not unusual to see Olympic bound athletes training in all seasons here. The “hills” in the city of Calgary are usually between 450-950 ft high, as the river valley sits beneath where many of us live. We live up on the ridge with one of the largest hills, in that 900-950 ft area. So it’s great for athletes of all kinds to work on conditioning.

    Graeme, your trim around that ulcer was down right symphonic. Mrs. Moo is on the road to recovery from what must have been excruciating. In a future post could you explain why you wouldn’t have wrapped that hoof a second time. I’m just curious. The drying room was a great idea - you lads can have your coffee, get nice and toasty, and keep your morning shenanigans and mess away from the long-suffering Ashley (Mrs. Hoof GP). It’s a Win-Win ! Very Best Christmas Wishes from Canada 🇨🇦, to you, your crew and your wonderful family, and a healthy, happy, prosperous 2024.
    Love seeing the fur-babies. Your Maine Coon, Bear, is an absolute beauty. 😺 Happy Birthday to your daughter. 🎂

    Beautiful sunrise and scenery. Okay, that is the biggest cat I’ve ever seen and the most relaxed. Lol. Glad to see the doggies and see them looking healthy and happy. You’re such a buggar trying to get the Mrs on camera before she’s ready to be. Thank goodness she knows you so well and I’m sure she’ll pay you back for that! Lol. Happy Birthday wishes to your daughter, they just grow up too fast! I can’t believe the improvement of that cows foot in two weeks. That ulcer looked like it was going to burst 2 weeks ago and you can see it’s slowly going down. Can hardly wait to see her in two more weeks. Nice work work Graeme. ❤❤

    When I first started watching your channel three or so years ago, I used to skip over the personal life and family things to get to the trimming, but as I’ve been a viewer for longer and longer, I’ve come to feel really vested in your life and your family.
    May your kids be wacky and your coffee be warm!

      I have only been watching your program for about three months and the only cow I have ever seen was on the side of a milk carton. LOL. I love the way you speak to the animals the kind words you say to them as you are working on them. I never realize how much hard work went into taking care of a farm animal. I have a new respect for farmers. I enjoy your show I love the scenery that you show, I love the way you treat all the animals. I love the way you treat your coworkers I look forward to catching up on some of the programs I have not been able to see thank you so very much for the enjoyment that you bring into my life, my husband and I wish you and your family a lovely holiday and God bless we all still enjoy looking at the beautiful countryside of Scotland, one day we may try to come to Scotland for a visit. It’s absolutely beautiful. We wish you the best your coworkers, their families as well a blessed holiday. God bless to all and thank you for being the human being that you are your parents did a wonderful job. Sincerely, happy holidays and merry Christmas.

    Really like watching The Hoof GP, we, the general public, are able to learn a great deal about bovine/animal husbandry. Keep up you great work guys. Mr & Mrs GP and the rest of the team are extremely fortunate to live and work in such a beautiful area of Scotland, it is somewhere that has been on my bucket list of places to visit for many years but living in the Yorkshire Dales I am somewhat spoiled as I am sure you'll agree The Yorkshire Dales are gorgeous.

    Awesome! As you made that one swipe that you got excited about, I could see the little ball of the ulcer relax and sort of bounce out from where it had been trapped/pinched in. I know it sounds weird but the ulcer looked "happier" it was healthy and vascular, but getting paler. So it wasn't dying, just shrinking. Great work!

    I just found you a few weeks ago. I had chickens, ducks, one rabbit and one horse. I thought I was farming! Ha! I. Just fed and loved them. I am fascinated by your videos. I usually do not enjoy yucky stuff but for some reason I love the care you are giving to these beautiful animals. I think cows are beautiful. I wanted to raise a couple of cows but I found out it would be expensive pets and I certainly was not going to send them to market. They were only going to be pets.
    I truly enjoy watching the videos and the yucky stuff doesn’t seem to bother me. Blessings to you and your family. Shirley in Wildwood, Missouri

    It does look a lot better. It didn't bleed when you sprayed it off at the begining either. If it had been exposed at the start of the last trim, I think it definitely would have bled. Glad she's feeling better.
