These are the sharpest looking soldiers anywhere, I could watch and listen to them forever, if I’d ever joined the army this is the unit I would join and be very proud of it
The Guards seem to move more freely in their boots. I wonder if the boots are constructed differently nowadays, formerly, they had to slide the boots forward- almost as if the boots were inflexible. or maybe the men did not want to put more creases than necessary. Many thanks for these much appreciated gems.
No drawing your sword is not saluting with your sword ( the same as presenting arms with a rifle).Drawing your sword is taking the sword out and holding at the carry position. You would bring the sword up in front of your face and bring it down again with your right arm at your side with the sword pointing towards the ground.
janet agar He is the Non Commissioned officer in charge of this group of men, usually holding the rank of corporal of horse or lance corporal of horse. He is simply the highest ranking on parade until the officer turns up. Therefore, it's his responsibility to drill the men into position, and as tradition dictates he must stand at attention when giving orders. This means that he has to remain at attention while the others stand at ease, so that he can then stand himself at ease.
Well drawing swords is presenting arms right? I haven't seen a single ceremony of any kind where the inspector (A Monarch, superior officer etc...) draws their weapon.
Scottx125Productions - Spiffingly Serious British Gaming! It just lets them know what about to happen behind them, so they don't get freaked out by a sudden movement.
adelaide102 In terms of officially, every one of these public parades should be the same, occasionally an officer will make a mistake yes, but otherwise they can sometimes do thing a little differently if they want to. Watch a video of one of these parades when it's snowing and see how different it is to this sunny one!

lol these boots do not crease. bees wax and 20 layers of polish tend to stop that from happening!
What rank is the inspecting officer?
Captain most likely
Yes he's a captain (3 pips on shoulders)

why do they smack the horses ?
Timing I imagine, I Imagine its also possible to train the horses to prepare (relax) for when the rider dismounts.
