@3:20 diagram says it all - The Register will have dozens and dozens of stories over the coming years for more and more disasters due to SAP "out-sourcing" - and the retired Basis people with 20+ years experience will be "sitting on a beach earning 20%" - Hans Gruber.

Have you not heard about all of the horror stories that companies are having with SAP RISE? 5 days to respond to basic basis tickets. Good luck!

@6:16 don't forget network security - a customer of mine had a recent near disaster when they were told by ECS that the IP address of the secondary HANA node would receive a random IP address in a subnet and that "the whole subnet should be whitelisted for the DB SQL port".*
*Yes, they obviously aren't using something simple like CNAMEs for HA or one of the proper ways to do it - "floating IP"

Like the "mansplaining" - Dont like all the "sad" Basis admins - Like the "technical" vs " application" Basis admin definition - Dont like (or believe) all paths ultimately end up at RISE. Looking forward to part 3 !

@1:30 Level 1 Basis provided by ECS fulfulled by SAP by way of Tata still leads to needing to contact Germany for CAS/technical stuff.
Same for ECS fulfilled by NTT data/T-systems by way of off-shore/near-shore/former Eastern Europe - still need to contact Germany for hard stuff.
Already pointed out on Linked in RISE/ECS only provide 30% of what needs to be done - and only provide 99.5% uptime and 99.7% with massive up-lift.

I can't find it now, but I'm sure I saw that it's changed to be all 99.7% because of "something or other".
October 2023 seems to come to mind from when this was announced.
Need to go through the docs on Monday to confirm any of that.

Yeah I'm fairly sure I read it changed in the october update of RISE docs.
      99.7 for prod
      95 for non-prod.
Still, no sacrificial DR or any cost/Co2 optimised options...

I think there are more than 3 choices for the Classic SAP BASIS Administrator.
All BASIS Admins should develop multiple 'pillars' of skillsets. These can include Technical Team Lead, Project Management, Technical Architect, cloud specialist, OS specialist (as you mentioned e.g. SUSE/RedHat), DB specialist, networking specialist, SAP performance specialist, monitoring, Solution Manager, SAP Security, infrastructure security, etc.
Developing these skillsets gives you choices in your career. Some are skillsets that are transferable out of the SAP environment (e.g. Technical Team Lead, Project Manager, Technical Architect and cloud specialist).
I've recently moved from one of the top consultancies (who I was with for over 10 years of my 25 year SAP career) into a small consultancy (SAP Platinum partner and member of United VARs), where I hold a BASIS Team Lead position and am also the Project Manager for several projects. So I'm still 100% SAP (doing a lot of work with RISE), but could easily transition out to a non-SAP role if required. I'm also AWS Technical Architect certified, which would make it easier still.

      They become "application BASIS".
If they wish to continue as "legacy BASIS", then they must be prepared to move company if their current company embraces RISE with SAP.

    • @TechCubicleOnSAP

Not quite. There will be jobs, but more "Application BASIS" as more companies move to RISE with SAP.
The "Application BASIS" will not manage the infrastructure beneath SAP.

SAP BASIS to SAP HANA or SAP BTP ?

    • @TechCubicleOnSAP
      @TechCubicleOnSAP  7 месяцев назад +1

Not sure what your question is.
In RISE, SAP HANA technical admin is done by SAP.
BASIS application admins can try to resolve SQL performance and can help HANA developers etc. But anything that needs SYSTEM is restricted to SAP.
BTP is something that BASIS application admins can still administer.
      Does that answer your Q?
