Yourr sincere efforts to show us the historical information with so much of details about the English dynasty is really awesome. Thanks so much. All the knits by both of you are beautiful. ❤
Oh, Karen Carpenter. My absolute favorite. I thought of her the instant you said that. I used to go to the library where they had records and headphones (back in the day..'75) and sit and listen to them while I looked at craft books. Love the episode and all the knitting!! Thank you both!
I was at work listening to your podcast and I laughed so loud when you and Dan said you are old and had a whole conversation about ailments! Well, I just about fell off my chair because my husband and I are starting to do that too. We just turned 60 and we’re at that age I guess. Thanks for such great knitting content and fun.
Yes, I knit in bed, morning and evening, helps me to relax, but I have loved all your shows and the wealth of history that Dan shares is wonderful, I've been watching a lot of the previous episodes, and loveall theknitting. I live in Perth, Western Australia
Just caught up with this episode and I just have to comment how much I love the Rise and fall of the monasteries it’s just amazing so professional and informative Well done I look forward to what’s next and the knitting is great ❤
i don't know when i have enjoyed a program as this one on the monasteries i am not a knitter but i wish that i were you all make some beautiful things and i love to watch Kay dye yarn but the monasteries are one the best things i have ever seen the music is so pretty but you are doing a great job on filming this keep up the good work i cannot wait until the next one will be shown
Thank you for another wonderful episode! I always enjoy getting to watch your episodes on Saturday mornings. I absolutely love The Reading Shawl, Kay! It looks so cozy & lovely. Dan, there are actually only 28 chapters in the book of Matthew. You mean to reference Matthew, Chapter 25, verse 35: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me...” It’s always such a treat to be able to see the beautiful sites you show. Thank you for all the time you put in to your shows! ~Amy
Hi Amy! Thankfully I referenced it correctly in Episode 6, as you guessed I mixed up the chapter and verse on what was a rather warm day. Best wishes, Dan
The Reading Shawl is absolutely gorgeous! From the colors to the picot edge!! and highly functional! Karen Carpenter, one of my favorites and effortless singer! I remember watching a movie about her life and her food addiction to stay thin, due to her emotional life with her mother. At least that's what I got out of it. A great loss for sure. The Rise and the Fall , such interesting stories, you can picture all of it! All of it entertained on my Friday Nite!!
I just found you guys and joined your patreon. While the knitting is beautiful, this history lesson was SUPERB! Now i have to go back and watch the previous ones 😊
Going to start on socks at bedtime. I use to do socks all the time. Now, my hobbies have widened to crochet, diamond art, and reading. Lots to do. Little time to do it. I love you guys!
I think those Refresher bigger round sweets from the 80's were called Flying Saucers , with the sherbert fizz in the middle - certainly that pinky yarn reminds me of the Flying Saucer sweets
Your pinky purple sock reminds me of a gum we used to have here in Canada called Thrills . It used to be funny when we would offer a piece to someone because we could say , " Do you want a thrill?".
❤ a lovely video as always - very needed today - my little boys final day at primary school so this cheered me up and stopped the tears for a little while 😂 xx
Great episode! Loved Dan's candy socks! Kay: I made a batch of your mincemeat today and preserved it for Christmas, but we had mini-mini mincemeat pies with a little bit I saved for our enjoyment today! Merry Christmas in July!!!!
My daughter is also an avid reader and reads so fast! I used to read alot but have now converted that time to knitting. I have often wondered about the books she reads because I don’t have time to pre-read to check the content. And as you pointed out, you can not trust the age recommendations. So what’s the solution?
There's a big issue with book publishing companies having got rid of the "Teenage" range, and moving the "Young Adult" section from age 18-24 down to age 13-17 instead. So whilst YA authors are often still writing books for the proper YA age of early 20's, publishers and marketers are selling them to young teens instead. Often with these inappropriate consequences. ❤❤
The only positive thing that came out of Karen Carpenter's death was the awareness given to the sickness of anorexia and mental health issues. I was at an impressionable age, professionally performing and always worried about keeping my weight down. It made me realize if it could happen to her, a literal angel on earth, it could happen to anyone.
Great episode as always. Thank you. That wool fibre is a great natural alternative to polyester filling for stuffing animals (not machine washable though). I follow a woman on Instagram who makes mohair bears and she uses wool fibre for stuffing. Her brand is Woollenhearted, because her bears have hearts of wool. 🧶🧸
More Rise and Fall. I am so pleased. I adore this series.

This episode of the rise and fall of the monastery was absolutely spellbinding! Loved every bit of it.
This monastery tour was so good I had to stop knitting in order to pay close attention. Best one yet. Thank you both
Dan your rise and fall production is just amazing. Excellent, I love history but many sources of good info are TLDR :)

I try to knit for an half hour before I go to bed . It helps me unwind and destress from a busy day.

That’s a beautiful purple in Dan’s socks, really lovely overdue.

Very good knits off the needle as well as on the needle. Thank you for sharing.

Hello from Mounds, Illinois. Love the shawl, but the red socks are awesome! Love Dan’s socks, purple color is beautiful and the cables are so pretty.
Love this, hi from Australia
I wonder how many people stopped half way through, googled Karen Carpenter You’ve Only just begun and sang along. I did 😂
LOVE LOVE LOVE your Reader's shawl!!!
I am shouting out Glenn Miller as it was easy for me as I grew up in the same town and went to a yearly festival to celebrate.
Omg how fun would that be !! Maybe have ZOOM bedtime Jammie knitting..I’d so be there :) !!!
We've only Just Begun was my wedding song. I have long loved the Carpenters!
Your pinky purple sock reminds me of a gum we used to have here in Canada called Thrills . It used to be funny when we would offer a piece to someone because we could say , " Do you want a thrill?".
Haha the soap gum !
I remember "Thrills". They always tasted like soap to me.
I loved that sweet soapy gum
I enjoy your videos so much! I love your reading shawl so much that I think I must have one! I will be on the lookout for your pattern release!!
You could use the packing fibre in thrummed mittens.
❤ a lovely video as always - very needed today - my little boys final day at primary school so this cheered me up and stopped the tears for a little while 😂 xx
Oh bless you time goes far to fast doesn’t it
I love the Reading Shawl. It would be great to knit a pair of socks with the leftover yarn - Reading Socks!!
Dan, you are a fabulous storyteller. I think you missed your calling to be a film maker.

That band leader is Glenn Miller.

Another sad and haunting singer - gone too soon - Eva Cassidy.
Austin Powers would say “Behave”.
Your not old until you give directions by public toilets instead of pubs lol
Question? In front of Priory Prison, are those offices or homes?
They were part of the abbey which became a stately home and is now in the hands of the English Heritage who take care of the site
Glenn Miller isn't it - the orchestra leader.
