Hi, Kay and Dan! I love the projects that you have both knit. Kay, you do an excellent job of describing the dying process. See you both next time❤️❤️🍀🍀
Hi, Kae and Dan. I hope that you both feel all better soon🙏🙏 Kae, I love the pattern of your new crochet blanket. I also quite like your fingerless gloves. I like all your blanket ideas.❤️ Dan, the cowl looks great and I love the pink socks. The monastery series is wonderful… thank you, Dan❤️🥹
Kay your socks are beautiful, I’m knitting my 1st pair on dpn.🥰. Dan, I’m enjoying you telling these stories. I find monasteries and monks to be very interesting. I’ve listened to this audio murder mysteries that happened in a hidden monastery. It was very good. The Gregorian chant they sang was absolutely beautiful. Dan, you should get picked up by discovery or Smithsonian channel for this story. The monastery was spectacular. Thank you for sharing these stories.
Congratulations on moving forward with your knitting skills, Dan! That point of discomfort before the next skill level is called the “zone of proximal development.” We never learn something new by sticking with the things we find easy to do. 😊
Hi Kay and Dan Another great episode with lots of brilliant crafting. I’m a bit behind with my viewing as I’ve been under the weather. The History of the Monasteries, absolutely marvellous Dan, throughly enjoyed every minute. Thank you both for the excellent content of your shows and for the music supplied by Dom. Take care and looking forward to seeing you soon. 👵 x
Despite the french sounding company name PetiteKnit is Danish😊Love your shows and have been following since your very start of podcasting 👍Much love Pia from Denmark
To say The Rise and Fall of the Monasteries was fabulous just wouldn’t give it justice. Dan, you have outdone yourself. In particular, Allred’s words really touched me. How beautiful! And congratulations to Dom Jones! The music is spectacular! I loved everything about this episode! Thank you, Dan and Kay!
Sat down with husband again, as he was looking forward to the second episode of the rise and fall of the monasteries and it foes not disappoint, it was so interesting, thank you again for a great episode.
You guys are so funny. She is not into you today dude! 😂😂 Loved the fingerless mitts. And the documentary is fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤
Every Adventure you do just seems more Epic! Music, all of it. I remember reading the Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton! I read all her books, and my Mum would say - Branch out and read other authors! So when I was 15 I read Rebecca! The knits are so beautiful, Dan, your cowl is so detailed, and beautiful! My Favorite Blanket, I love, and finally settled on the colors I truly want. Started it a few times. Now I am ready ! Thankfully you all have recovered from Covid! What a wretched virus!
dan i just want you to know that i think you are doing a great job on the monasteries i may never get there to see all you are going to show but through your videos i will get to see the beauty of your country and the history that is there and i love the knitting which i am going to try to learn this year i love the colors that are used and the socks i would love to learn how to make socks thank you so much both of you for all that you do
What a great episode! Dom's music is, well, there's no words to describe, how moving it is and perfectly placed within this episode. Also the words Dan read about Aelred showed the neverending bridge between past and present. I wish you both, especially Kay, a rapid recovery!
My mum always knitted with those big balls of yarn. Used to knit my brother sleeveless pullovers for working on the farm, wore really well and washed well( well until he used to burn holes in the front with battery acid!!) poor mum then had to mend or reknit a front. Thanks for a lovely podcast.
Dan you have outdone yourself again with this series. Kay was right, it is stunning. I can't help but think and try to imagine all of those windows with beautiful stained glass. Thank you both so much for this podcast. It is the best!
Dan, your monastery series is just so good the BBC will be after you. I grew up near Rievaulx Abbey so I found this episode particularly interesting. Absolutely wonderful job. Hope you both feel better soon. 🥰🇨🇦
The scope of your documentaries--narration, video and music--always has me in tears just a few minutes in. I've always wanted to visit and to live in GB, and to think you have these historical sites so close at hand in your everyday existence...I can only imagine how amazing it must be. Thank you for sharing them with us, and so professionally at that! What a fantastic addition to a banger of a knitting channel. Thank you both for all your hard and incredibly beautiful work in every category of what you create and share.photographically
The sheer beauty of the English landscape just takes my breath away. The music is amazing in this series and the stories are just amazing. Thank You for sharing such a wonderful history.
I hope you guys feel much better next time. However, you both look very well, thanks for pushing thru. The podcast was spot on of course and I really enjoyed the Abby tour. Best of health to you both. Until next time many blessings.
Oh Dan, you have truly outdone yourself, I am so amazed by your talent and dedication. Thank you for such an amazing history view and lesson. Kay I am happy to see you are feeling better, such a trouper to do a video when you are just recovering from covid. Bravo to both of you.
Oh my, I love the reading by Alread (sp), especially the second one about being loved and loving. I need to to listen to it again, and again. Great series, Dan. My favourite yorkshire abbey is Bolton; wonder if you'll be going there.
👏👏👏Wow Dan, my husband and I have had the privilege of going to Rievaulx Abby but your episode today brought an entirely new dimension to that visit for us. Thank you and to your special guest, the horse. Kay, I so agree with you, we absolutely need to support the designers in this industry, you all work so hard to provide us with wonderful projects to knit, thank you all.
I do agree with you Kay about buying patterns, l am an experienced knitter and can copy most patterns for shawls, cowels, scarves, hats and socks but the designer has had an idea and that's what we pay for.
Thank you for discussing the C word and symptoms. So many don’t and then it it assumed it’s a cold like symptom and blown out of perspective. I hope both recover quickly, be well.
WOW Dan Jones! 😮 that was amazing! Incredible! Interesting! Beautiful! Absolutely your best. Can't wait for more. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Sorry you're not well Kay. 😣 No fun at all. I couldn't hear it in your voice but could kind of see it in your eyes at the end. Been there, done that. Hugs! Amazing that you were up for filming an episode!
So true about winning. Winning is a private competition for oneself. Teachers have made every child a 'winner' which dies the opposite. I won a few endeavours at school and I lost a lot of times but coming second just made me driven to get first. First in a subject that I loved. So as a 70 year old person, I still have personal completions to do something or know and idea not everyone knows. I always buy the most complicated patterns as I will only make 1, but it will be the best I can do. I had the extreme good luck to complete my Honours/Masters in Medieval History at Sydney University as a mature student. I would not have gone to uni at all if I didn't want to excell personally, nothing to do with my fellow competition. I'm driven to excell through winning and losing as a young person.
The horse section is so funny. Do horses attack drowns. . its an old horse, Dan. It want you to play around with it, a new play mate. The horse is probably so bored. . and then along comes .. you 😁. The highlight is you talking about the meeting.
I had to pause the video to say that, as always, Dom's music is the perfect complement to your camera work and commentary. I appreciate these episodes so much for all the talent and work that go into them and all that I learn from them!
Your videos are so beautiful and well done. I can feel your excitement for the history and scenery that you are filming for us all. Absolutely breathtaking!!! The horse was cute too😊
I agree about supporting designers, even with easy patterns--they have done the work, and it's always good for beginning crafters to have these easy patterns in their libraries, even if it's just to learn how to read a pattern.
Wooo hoo your back and it’s Abbey Day what a lovely way to recuperate from my operation yesterday under a cosy blanket, cup of tea and you two. Loved the crazy horse outtakes now shutting up to watch the full episode bliss
I'm so sorry to hear you've both had Covid. Kay, I know firsthand how badly you felt (I felt "adrift" for 4 days and barely remember a thing, except all I wanted to drink was Coke which is really strange because I don't usually drink soda.) but I am happy to see both of you feeling much better. Love the Rise and Fall of the Monasteries. So interesting. That stonework is just amazing. Well done Dan, this is going to be a fabulous journey. Just purchased the "Wizardy Socks" and am trying to decide on a yarn for them.
What an awesome episode! Would you consider doing a “clips” channel where you repost the History and baking clips separately after the full episode is out? They are absolutely delightful and informative, and while, as a knitter, I love that in a knitting podcast I think it might appeal to a wider audience to have a smaller video with just history. Keep it up!
I love all the Bakery Bear episodes! I was struck today by the video quality of this episode which is just amazing. I found the clarity most noticeable when you were filming at the monastery. The production is so professional! I also love the separate clips you have been adding in of project close ups and project bags. It is clear you both love what you are doing and are always trying to improve on what is already a fantastic podcast. Thank for professional dedication over the years!
I call that "failing forward" in that a failure can always be learned from. Either I learn how to next time or I learn never to again 🤣either way I win from the experience
Kay I have purchased and knit the Sophie Scarf. It is lovely! Can’t imagine admitting I didn’t pay for it. I hope you both are feeling 100% very soon. ☺️
My mum said we had Viking ancestors, which was probably true. Red hair was a visably Viking trait. The monasteries are so exciting and they personify the role of Catholicism and the power of the pope in the UK. The money brokers of the middle ages based on farming and sheep. Much like the BIG houses/small grand hotels that employed the locals. Henry 8th and the end of the monasteries. Everything has its season.
Thank you once again for another thoroughly enjoyable episode. Love the monastery history segment, I love history especially topics that are about how people lived during the ages. Love from Australia.
Hi Kay, great show! I’ve been looking through your sock patterns on ravelry. I was wondering if there is a pattern with your tutorials showing how to put in the heel and the toe. I thank you so very much. I hope you have a lovely week.
I love the fiber content of your podcast, but I’m over the moon over the Monasteries segment. I’ll likely never visit England (in USA), but am so fascinated by all its ruins and history.
I'm enjoying the monastery series so much. Was kind of expecting to see more of the horse, though, after all the build-up! PetiteKnit is a Danish designer, with five (!!!!!) beautiful Danish children who are always wearing sweaters she made for them. I bought her Monday sweater pattern and feel very happy with the results, but for the life of me I can't understand the fervor for the Sophie scarf. When something is that popular but I'm just not feeling it, I feel like I'm missing a gene or something that everyone else has.
I loved your comments about striving to get better and realise your potential. I have been fighting with sock knitting for months and tried many methods , I have unpicked and unpicked til my eyes fall out but I have never given up. Kay’s tutorial on sock knitting has saved my life as I am now knitting a proper sock with a gusset with no holes and lumps and they actually fit. I thank you from the bottom of my sock knitting heart
I do agree with you about everyone wins sort of spoiling a whole generation or 2. I am a retired teacher and it always irked me that we had to reach with that philosophy. I took a math teaching course, where the children learned playing games. That was great, but at the end the children spun a spinner to see if high score or lie score wins. One child was fine with that because they "knew" they had really won because they had the high score.
Dan…what a stunning tour! I continue to be captivated by your ability to bring us all into the past with such clarity and depth. Just curious here, though…what are the modern buildings that abut the abbey all about? Ancillary buildings to maintain the abbey or perhaps private land?
Hi Carla! Thank you so much for your lovely message!! We’ll cover what happened after the fall of the monasteries in the final episode. That will include letting you know what all the buildings are around the abbeys which we’ll visit through the series. Best wishes!
Thought you did very well this show suffering results of Covid. Totally agree with you about supporting designers. Really just plagiarizing from another person's creativity. I have been consumed by English history since reading Ken Folletts series. This Abby so reminded me of "Tom the Builder". Great storytelling!
Hi, Kay and Dan! I love the projects that you have both knit. Kay, you do an excellent job of describing the dying process. See you both next time❤️❤️🍀🍀

Hi! Love the show. The designer of the Sophie scarf is Danish, and very chic as well!
“Brach’s Candy”! I loved that candy. Haven’t seen it in years. The yarn looks just like it.
Wow Dan that was totally marvellous really so very good you are talented in your presentation and clarity I loved it. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much Fiona x
You guys are so funny. She is not into you today dude! 😂😂
Loved the fingerless mitts. And the documentary is fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤
Dan I love you tours and you do them so well. I loved the horse friend.
So sorry you guys got sick, glad you're on the road to recovery. Dan deserves a Webby for the Monasteries series!
I am so enjoying your podcasts. Dan's series are wonderful and I love Kay's patterns. Hope you both feel better soon!!

Your Videos are so fill of all kinds of information from both of you. I do so love you two. Thank you for everything. See you soon 🫶

Bravo on Rise and Fall, Dan! So sorry that you’ve been ill, Kay. Speedy recovery!🙏🏻
What a great episode! Dom's music is, well, there's no words to describe, how moving it is and perfectly placed within this episode. Also the words Dan read about Aelred showed the neverending bridge between past and present.

Dan love the horse following you and loved that cowl...good job. Agreed we need to be accustome to failing and try again until we are better!!!!
Wow that was amazing !! the planning u have done Dan about the Abbey . TYTYTY from Canada . GBU all. I have osteo arthritis = painful
Ryedale - my favourite annual holiday destination, especially when the wild garlic is in flower neat Rievaulx Terrace - gorgeous aroma.
My mum always knitted with those big balls of yarn. Used to knit my brother sleeveless pullovers for working on the farm, wore really well and washed well( well until he used to burn holes in the front with battery acid!!) poor mum then had to mend or reknit a front. Thanks for a lovely podcast.
Take care over there! Many thanks for the monastery tours. Breathtaking.
Of course, the horse is a star.
I love Jaime Oliver ❤

Love the documentary ❤. Love the mitts!
"I felt such love that it surpassed all the delights of the world". Thank you Dan for this journey you are taking us on.

Hello from St. Louis Missouri!
Wooo hoo your back and it’s Abbey Day what a lovely way to recuperate from my operation yesterday under a cosy blanket, cup of tea and you two. Loved the crazy horse outtakes now shutting up to watch the full episode bliss

Love South Yorkshire
Hope y'all feel better quick. Feel so sorry to hear your stuffy voices. So love the monastery series and that horse is a hoot!
Dan should narrate for other programs. His voice is wonderful to listen to. 🤓

I call that "failing forward" in that a failure can always be learned from. Either I learn how to next time or I learn never to again 🤣either way I win from the experience
What a tremendously epic production! You are both so amazing. A fantastic pair of storytellers. Love from a yarn store owner in Alabama, USA. 💜
Kay I have purchased and knit the Sophie Scarf. It is lovely! Can’t imagine admitting I didn’t pay for it.
I hope you both are feeling 100% very soon. ☺️
Thank goodness for dk versions! I can’t wiat

Love your videos.knitting more vintage cotton yarn dishcloths for cafe..just got my knitting cone yarn for myself
Thank you once again for another thoroughly enjoyable episode. Love the monastery history segment, I love history especially topics that are about how people lived during the ages. Love from Australia.
I have a strong urge to start a Hydrangea blanket now with all my odds and sods. I started one forever ago but God knows where it is lol.
Hi Kay, great show! I’ve been looking through your sock patterns on ravelry. I was wondering if there is a pattern with your tutorials showing how to put in the heel and the toe. I thank you so very much. I hope you have a lovely week.

Love your videos. They are absolutely incredible.
Will you be covering what happened to all the stained glass in the fall of the monasteries? Great episode. Thank you!
Yes in the final episode, I’ll tell you now though it was removed and sold off. In the 16th century glass was a valuable commodity
I'm enjoying the monastery series so much. Was kind of expecting to see more of the horse, though, after all the build-up! Hello! Lovely pod as usual. But I just had to tell you that Petiteknit is Danish. 🇩🇰🇩🇰
I love hydrangeas too…ask me how many i’ve lost (a/k/a killed!) over the years! 😳
I do agree with you about everyone wins sort of spoiling a whole generation or 2. I am a retired teacher and it always irked me that we had to reach with that philosophy. I love your slightly larger squares for stitch in time. How many stitches did you cast on. Thank you.
Dan, another outstanding video of Rievaulx Abbey! Thank you! And I’m not a fan of Jamie Oliver, either. 😅
I’ve looked at patterns plenty of times and reversed engineered the design. But I keep it on the down low!
I disliked history in school, after retirement has turn my love of history. What is the difference in an Abbey and a monastery? Makes me so
No difference, in this episode we visited a monastery called Rievaulx Abbey. Best wishes
Nobody expects the Spanish Imposition lol
