    Amazing! We visited Ireland for the first time a couple years ago and had the best time following some of these tips and using Rick Steves' guidebook. Ireland is a magical place.

    Great advice, but I have to disagree on the bus service. I took the bus/coach from Dublin to Belfast, to Derry, to Galway, to Dingle, to Cork and back to Dublin making day trips along the way. It was fine. You can snooze and catch up on reading, maybe even meet a nice travel partner as I did on the trip from Galway to Dingle. Bus Eiran were great and sent me schedules etc. It's not as bad as suggested at the beginning of this video.
    I didn't have a car.

    Excellent lecture Pat. Hope you have a chance to visit one of my favourite spots in Ireland -- Roundwood House in Mountrath in Co. Laois. We've used all Rick's books during our family vacation in Ireland, Italy, Paris and London.

    The thing about pubs is not really the case any more.They are still pubs,but they are fewer and many are part time operations.Drink driving laws and cheaper shop bought alcohol as well as cafe culture on the rise

    Drive! Its not that hard to adjust to driving on the left with the right hand drive. The roundabouts are not that difficult. Don't drive in Dublin, public transportation and walking will get you around.

    Chips in your card eliminates the need to call your bank ahead of your trip. Finding a better bank eliminates the need to take big ATM withdrawals.

    Fine video, but at 44:05, why is he saying that is the Westernmost point of Europe, when there is Spain and Portugal?

    • @blackthornwhitethorn6679
      @blackthornwhitethorn6679 9 лет назад +7

      sergel02 It is just slightly farther west of Portugal. Cabo da Roca (Portugal) is considered the westernmost point in mainland Europe, but Ireland is part of the European continental shelf and was connected to the continent by land during the last glacial period, and it includes points that are further west than Cabo da Roca. Supposedly. I'm no geologist though lol.

    Good but traditional intro to travelling around ireland. Many very old images -esp around dublin. Some broad statements are actually misleading.

    true about the passports but he does have it wrong , if you are from Northern Ireland you are born a British citizen as part of the UK , you have the choice to hold a Irish passport but you still remain a British citizen unless you renounce it you can have both and be dual

    • @colonelwhite1512
      @colonelwhite1512 7 лет назад +2

      You don't have to renounce it if you don't accept it. Nobody is going to renounce something they never wanted and never agreed to.

      Bad idea when travel on the opposite site of the road. Many accident occur for those who have the wrong motoring instincts.

    It's my greatest dream to visit Ireland.. Nearly all of my ancestors are Irish, Scots Irish and Welsh.. In that order.. With a few Was gonna oddballs thrown in, but what can be odder than the Gaelic-American.? My sister and I planned to go together.. She died before we were able.. I'm not a loudmouthed American.. I am fiercely proud of my heritage.. My sister just knew that if she got there would never want to come back to the US.. We were in love with Ireland before we knew we are Irish.. We learned when she was four and I was six.. If there ever was an argument in favor of inherited memory, we are it..
