Broke my scaphoid and wore a cast for 6 months. Also obtained depression along the way. However I can back stronger than ever and I’m doing much better
@@gadwalidjbabu5130 I injured myself again but in a different place 😂 still struggling with my mental health too. This wrist is fine though. Although still weaker than my other side (though it isn’t my dominant side)
I broke my scaphoid when I fell off my skateboard like 4 years ago, I didn’t realise it was broken for about a year, I mean it hurt slightly but it was easily bearable, after it still slightly hurt in some positions I went to get it checked after nearly a year and the bone was split in two and the calcium buildup was really high as well as no blood to the bone, they said they could do surgery on it but it would possibly make things worse off, I decided just to leave it as it was just a mild irritation at this point. Still to this day it is broken but all it is now is a mild inconvenience to get a mild pain in some positions that I move my hand in, I have also been weight lifting for nearly 4 years now and had next to no problems.
Can u give me ur instagram please! I want to talk about something with u its important for me man cause i just did the sergury yesterday and i am almost like u i broke it before 1 year.
I fractured my scaphoid, I went to the hospital when it first happened and the x-ray showed no fracture. I had hardly any pain and was told to come back in 10 days for a second x-ray. When I went for the second x-ray it was confirmed it was fractured and I might need surgery. I was shocked they had to show me the x-ray with the fracture as I really didn't believe them, I have 0 pain and full movement, but now I'm in a cast for 6 weeks and it fucking sucks. Moral of my story get things checked out you might be surprised. :P
So, the fracture of scaphoid is worse than broken scaphoid if it requires surgery!? I also fall with my palm and I have a cast and tomorrow I'm going to have an x-ray. It's already 9 days, I can move with all my fingers. I do hope I don't need other cast. 🤞
non union and malunion are both typical for scaphoid injuries. the problem is that when you break it and it is not found early on, the nerves and tiny blood vessels just started to die out and then the pain comes. operations involving scaphoid is always scary i have to say.
I honestly belive I fractured mine. I feel very hard on my hand. And I have swelling, redness, and popping. And I have pain mostly under my thumb where this bone would be. I also got an x ray and nothing came up. And my mobility is getting better but I still have pain. So I may get checked if the pain doesn't go away.
I broke me right scaphoid a few weeks ago. I waited 3 weeks to get it checked out because I thought it was only a strain. When I got it checked out, it was broken directly done the middle. I ended up getting a surgery to put a screw in my hand to help the bone heal correctly. I have football lifting starting in mid June, which is my estimated time of return. I just hope I'm healed in time cause it's my senior year and idk what I'll do without football.
Strange question, but i got exactly the same problem as you and i'm in the 5th week of recovery. Can you give me maybe any details about how you doing now, i'm afraid from all the stories they told me. Appreciate it
I was skateboarding and broke it and cut my arm and I got distracted by the blood and then my wrist was really hurting, not swelling, it was just really stiff and painful and I went to A&E and yeah now I’ve got a bloody cast on 2 days later, it might not even be bloody broken they aren’t sure yet because it could just be a shadow on the x Ray like wtf
I broke my scaphoid in 2012, then at least stressed it again in 2015 by falling harder than usual. I was in a cast 8 weeks the first time and 5 weeks the second time. I couldn't do a palm-down push-up comfortably until just a couple months ago. It takes time.
this is a serious thing. if you delay for treatment, then you are risking the vessels behind scaphoid which means they have to fuse the wrist. Fusing means you cannot bend it.
same here my little finger and the finger beside was sweollen, and there is a small bump on the scaphoid i get some pain in certain motions but its not bad, il get it checked out incase it actually is broken or fractured
If anyone is curious about my experience, here's the story. I had punched a door in anger being stupid and immediately felt pain. The next 3 days just touching it stung really bad and it had limited movement. I thought it was sprained. I took like Advil and wore a little brace. I even went back to work washing dishes in pain for about a month then quit. I had enough of waiting for it to heal because I still couldn't do pushups and decided to get standard X-rays incase. The Doc had some heavy news for me. I had broken mine just like yours pretty bad. btw I'm in a band that plays gigs every month so I was devastated about the odds of it healing and possibly needing surgery & right before we go on tour.. I had actually played with it broken live a few times before I knew. I just had my surgery. The Doc estimated it to take 3 hours but it took 1. They did a bone graph taking fresh bone from my wrist instead of my Hip to fill in the bone scar before putting a screw in which they did on the top of my hand instead of the bottom after getting 3D X-rays. The fact I'm young is better and I was told to take vitamins for bones. So I went under then woke up with a temporary splint and was taken home. They had numbed it and gave me heavy pain killers which didn't make me feel euphoric but just took away the pain. I just laid on the couch for couple of days watching movies. At one point my knuckles got really swollen so I did the whole ice thing. Then my wrist started itching under my splint which is annoying & had the slight feeling of my hand falling asleep every now and then. I gained weight. For me the pain wasn't excruciating. I had missed a pill an hour late and it was just really a sore aching feeling that was uncomfortable. I was more interested in the fact there's a screw in my hand that I couldn't feel. I've had my appendix removed and my wisdom teeth to and a mole removed on my foot. those hurt worse. But I've learned to stay positive. Stress can't be good for the healing process. This is time to relax. maybe read and write. Luckily it wasn't my dominant hand. And worst case scenario is more surgery. btw medical bills suck haha. That's where I am right now. Its July. 5 days after my surgery & I might get the cast off in November. Wish me luck.
I'm the same mate. Broke my right and I'm left handed. Thank the gods I'm full left sided. I had the swell and pain fell a sleep 5 hours and then went to A&E. Was rushed back in 3 days later for the operation. screw now in my scaphoid rest of my lift but fuck it. I feel ok now but still don't trust my wrist and I'm 2 years in a week after a op !
+Martin Keep strengthening it man! I know I will when my doctor says I can do whatever I want again x) I'm already using 10 lbs dumb bells to work out since he allowed me to lift 10 lbs max. Keep working on that range of motion and the strength to decrease the chances of it breaking again by a lot.
I broke my Scaphoid two days ago, I went to the hospital straight away incase anything happened to my wrist. Luckily they put a splint on my wrist about three hours after the accident. Idk if I need surgery yet or how long a cast will be needed. I play the piano and I'm really hoping that this break won't affect that so wish me luck.
mine may be broken, happened 5 days ago. got a splint and the pain is getting worse. i cant hold anything without pain. and meds only take the edge off. i go back monday to get new xrays. i was told to wear a splint and i could go back to work. little did i know they took the wrong view of xray and i actually wasnt supposed to be using my hand at all. i worked 1 day for 12 hours and another day for 10.5. which was near impossible because its my dominant hand -_- so if it wasnt broken before, it probably is now.......................and yes showering with one hand is awful. ill let you know how it goes on monday!
if there is no union of the bone, the only way is to fuse the bone which means loss of motion in wrist or live the pain for the rest of your life. So to have a proper union, do not even think about working or using the hand. If you don’t take this serious, you become disabled in the wrist.
I was skateboarding at the park at night and ended up falling off of my board. Ended up spraining my ankle and possibly broke my scaphoid. I have a splint on now. Seeing a specialist tomorrow.
In april 2016 i was riding an atv and i was about to loose balance so i held onto the grips as hard as i could and i ended it up hitting a tree. I was launched off the atv but my wrist was so locked on the grips that when i was thrown off the atv, my scaphoid snapped in half! I also broke my patella (knee cap) and tibia (leg) in the accident. Its been six months and i did not need surgery. I had a cast and got it off in july. Now my wrist is all back to normal. And as for my knee and leg, they healed before the scaphoid (in june)
The reason for the thumb with the cast is so the bone can set. Simple. The position of the bone it keeps the blood flowing in the hand etc so it needs to be in perfect position full time
I break my two scaphoid the left first and he was the worst and 2 month after I got off my cast I break my other one. Let’s go 2019-2020 my worst years ever
The "saw" they use on the cast is a vibrating wheel that doesn't hurt the skin on contact. You're pretty lucky in your case though. For me, it's been a year since my first surgery and I'm about to get another surgery with bone graft from my radius, as the scaphoid didn't heal completely. My issue was identifying my fracture as a sprain and not getting surgery until 2 months after (I was in another country for vacation). A lot of doctors, even surgeons don't see the value of PT. Fact is that the right therapy can help a lot in ROM/strengthening your wrist, particularly early on. Also good nutrition goes a long way (vitamin D3, calcium, fish oil). You should be fine though, you were treated early on and didn't need surgical intervention, that's great. Bearing weight on your wrist should help a lot to bring back ROM and strength, which at this point should be close to original. Hope its going good for you.
That's apparently very normal because I didn't know for 2 years that mine was broke... but it's so bad to a point that as I'm typing my thumb is locking up constantly
i broke my scaphoid while i was hanging from the roof loose the grip ....its been a month tdy first i put on splint for two weaks then i repeated the xray it was broken in the middle and i put on a cast....
I also broke my scaphoid in my left wrist. During football practice i hit this guy really hard on a block, but also hurt myself in the process. I didnt really think much of it until i got home after an hour or two when it progressively got worse in pain like yours. I felt sharp pain and knew something was wrong. I went to some small health clinic place not sure exactly but they put a splint on and said it was a hairline fracture. I then went to the doctor which they had told me to do days later. The doctor actually confirmed that it was a fracture and it was broken towards the bottom of the bone, and clean break right through. Since the bone doesn't get much blood and it was broken at the bottom, it would take very long to heal. Then got a hard cast almost up to my shoulder and couldn't even stretch out my arm for about 2 months. I got another cast much smaller about mid forearm for a month. Now I've been wearing a brace for another 2 months. Pain is still relevant if i do a stretching movement and lost a lot of strength in my arm because of the cast. It Broke mid September and is now January but is slowly but surely getting better(hopefully) but i am still very worried.
Michael de Jesus can you tell now how is your healing process ? seem u had proximal fracture and u didnt surgery i broke my left scaphoid 1/3 proximal stabil fracture and today is 42th day i am worried tooo
I fractured my scaphoid a year ago. I was in a cast for 3 months but kept being told i would get my cast off "in 3 weeks" from the start I didnt know what i was actually in for. after 3 months the dr said it was healing good enough to get the cast off. after 3 more months it still wasnt healed. i do not have full 90 degrees backward motion. pushups hurt a ton and my wrist is weak in this sense.. when i rotate my wrist in circles, there is a clicking in my bone. I may get surgery this winter but after my bad experience with the casts I am not so sure...
Confirmed fracture in my wrist. Happened over a week ago. Half cast a week or so ago . Covers finger so I can't work. In a week, I'm taking it off. Wrapping and seeing if I can lightly use for work. No surgery , no cast. Don't think the fracture is very significant
Aric Herweck don’t do that, it needs to be stabilized even if it’s a hairline crack (like mine was). Not stabilizing it will fuck it up bad and you’ll end up with bad arthritis within 5 years. This will lead to surgery and potentially months in a cast
5 weeks Dx Lucky. I actually broke my scaphoid back in 8th grade. I had it checked a few times but the doctor was never able to find something, but during my first year of college she sent me to an orthopedist. He managed to find it and it turned out to be a non-union, so they had to take some bone graft out of my hip and put it between my 2 scaphoid pieces. During last summer I finally got my surgery. Now it's been 3 months and I still have my cast on. Hopefully it comes off next month when I go in to get my X-rays again x)
Same broke mine 3 years ago just got it fixed 5 days ago had have a bone graph from my knee with vascular tissues because it was a non Union 80% of my scaphoid died
Oh wow 80% died? Damn where did it break from? Mine broke through the middle but it didn't really die even though it was a non union. Doctor said it was slowly dying but they just took a small bone graft from my hip and screwed the two halves together with the bone graft put in the middle. Now my recovery is going well and in 2 more months doc said i can do whatever i want. I hope it goes well for you too man. Hopefully the injury won't hold you back from anything after it heals up.
Yeah the bone was seperated for so long with no blood supply that the bone couldn't be saved so they had to take a large graft from my knee and shape it into the shape of my scaphoid and the screw it together I appreciate the support my follow up is in a few days and then we will do a test yo see if the graft is taking fingers crossed Oh and I have no idea how I broke young and dumb Lol
+Justin Marshall Yeah I don't know how I broke mine either. All I know is it happened at a family party when I was 13 x) Goodluck though dude. After suffering with a non-union for 5 years and taking an entire year to recover, I think I know the feeling. I don't like the feeling x) but if I can do it, I'm sure you can too. My Orthopedist also told me to use this thing called a bone stimulater that I used once a day and it was supposed to help heal the bone by a very small amount. The thing can cost a few hundred if your insurance doesn't cover it, but if the situation calls for it, maybe you could try talking about it with your doctor. The one I used is "EXOGEN Ultrasound Bone Healing System"
I fractured mine about 4 weeks ago falling off of a ladder at work. I still cant move my wrist back much, it pops when i move it side to side in a waving motion. I went to the hospital and go x-rays but they didnt let me see them so i don't know the severity. The doctor put an ace bandage on my wrist, charged me $5000, and told me to go see a different doctor. I dont have insurance, so hopefully it heals properly or i'm totally fucked.
Matthew Galenski same. Thank god think mine was a minor fracture. Broke little over a week ago. Taking the splint off end of the week to see mobility/ progress
i broke my right scaphoid when i fell playing skating ... back in 2000 i was 20 years old.. im 37 years old now ... thought its only a sprain... so i go to the physical therapist that i was thought the right doctor for my painfull wrist .. my first x ray show no broken bone in my wrist... so i ignored it that its only a sprain ... but its too late after 2008 when it feel stiffness and severe pain in my right wrist .. that time my friends told me i should go to orthopedic doctor and then find a shocking discovery in my x ray with different angles that my right wrist scaphiod is broken and have arthritis... that doctor said to me that i go for surgery to put plates in my wrist ... but i will lose some of my hand movement... so i decided to leave not to go to surgery...just i ask to my doctor to give me a priscribed medecine for pain.. thank you sorry for my english...
That sounds a lot worse than my experience. My scaphoid was broken for roughly 5 and a half years. I was 13 when it happened and didn't find out until I was 18, but couldn't do the surgery until a few months after I turned 19. Luckily I didn't develop any arthritis. My orthopedist was surprised at that. Half of my bone was almost dead though, so he took bone graft from my hip and had to split a nerve to provide my scaphoid with more blood to increase the chances of it healing.
I broke my scaphoid in high school early in football season.. didn't know it was broken for 2 months!! then got put in a cast for 4 months. the recovery after getting out of the cast sucked it took like 9 months to finally get feeling better. it's good now but it'll probably never be the same
It just pops every time I move it and it's always stiff. At least you caught it right away. Gerry it casted up and take care of it and you should be fine. I waited like 2 months before I got mine checked out that's probably why it was so messed up
Devin Bird sorry to hear. yeah i noticed it pretty fast, but continued playing with shit lotta pain lol. I couldn't sleep the whole night so we went to the doc the day after. now my arm has to be in a cast for 8 weeks at least. How did your injury happen. I get that it was in a football game but how? I went straight into the boards with my hand first..
themegaabe I was running down field to make a down field block and cracked some dude with both hands and it broke right there. it was a good block though lol.
Did it hurt to move your wrist after the cast came off? I went for a check up after 4 weeks and the fracture looked healed without any tenderness in my scaphoid but it was hurting like a mf when I was trying to move it. They gave me a short arm cast for 4 more weeks and told me I'd be good to go after that.
+Bl4st2 Yes it did! I just came back to this thread to see what's new here. My fracture completely healed with zero complications. It's been about 8 months since my cast came off and my wrist is fully functional. I am able to do push-ups and weights with zero discomfort. I started exercising my wrist as soon as the cast was taken off and it took me about 3-4 months to get rid of all the pain and regain the full range of motion. Hang in there people. It's not as bad as people make it look. Take good care of yourself while the bone is healing and you'll be alright. Avoid alcohol and smoking and make sure you give your body nutrition it needs to support the healing process!
+mrmpgd I have the cast for 2 months and the doctor told me 20 more days. To me it is a bit complicated because I am in the military and I need to do physical training tests that I left behind this year due to the injury. I hope I'm good to go in 2 more months but probably it's not gonna happen :(
+Bl4st2 The hardest part for me was regaining the full range of motion but I got around 70% of it back within the first month. Based on my experience in 2 months from now your wrist should be mostly functional. I started exercising pretty much the first day withe the stress ball and started adding some weights few days later for strengthening. After 2 months I was able to work out at the gym but strangely I felt some discomfort while doing cardio without putting any stress on the wrist, that went away completely after about 4 months. Take it slowly when your cast is off but be consistent. You'll see improvement every day. Good luck and thank you for your service sir.
+mrmpgd Thank you for sharing your experience man. Two days ago I got a cast replacement, when I took it off my arm was so skinny. Like really thin... Will it go back to normal fast? It just looked so fragile. And don't call me a sir ahah I'm only 19 :)
I broke mine 3 years ago, didn't know it was fractured but I was in a cast regardless for 2 months and I thought that was it, but my wrist still hurt and I couldn't do anything because it put a lot of stress on it 3 years later I decided to get an x-ray and followup CT scan and found out my scaphoid was fractured and didn't heal and is now a non union I'm getting surgery in 2 weeks : / they said to complicated hope it goes well
I broke my wrist 2 months ago and went to the the doctors the day it happened they told me it was broke that day and due to life events I wasnt and didnt want to get it treated until now. It happened from skateboarding came of a stair set and landed on my wrist I instantly knew I really fucked it up. This is really hard for me I just went to the doctors this past Thursday for it and they told me im going to need surgery and im in a cast right now. This is really hard for me because I just started to get back into lifting and I love skateboarding and now taking a another fall on it could be horrible so I really have to be careful. Reading these comments and watching this video has been really helpful Thanks everybody for sharing. Even when I slammed I still got back up and landed the trick haha you can check it out the land my channel its the hardflip down the 5
oh shit i think mine broke 5 months ago. I think its healed now but is out of place because there is a new bone sticking out. i injured it thru impact with a dumbell while liftweight. the funny thing is i have been lifting weight ever since and it didnt bother me, only if i tried to bend my thumb backward, which no one ever do
Hello, I don't know if you see this comment but I broke my right hand, I mean inside I broke my scaphoid bone. That happened last February 4th and I have my third cast on, how long do you think it will take to heal?
I was running for my school and fell in a dip twisted my ankle I tried going on fell again and hit my hand the teachers had to carry me up the hill. I’m out school we do lot of typing. I didn’t want to run because I knew I was going to fall. But since I was trying out for basketball I had to. The nurse said it’s mostly probably a fracture so get it checked out. I haven’t yet but I will soon. And it’s my right hand which sucks because I’m right handed. It hurts right now and it’s Thanksgiving so I have to wait. I have to keep typing and writing to a minimum
Plaese help me... from 9 months i had a crack in scaphoid and i did a cast for 3 weeks..and i started going to gym after 5 months of moving cast but pain is still exists when i left even simple weights in gym 😢😢 tell me what i do and how long i should have rest please thanks🌷
Hi, i had surgery with a screw put in. I got my cast off 2 days ago. My wrist is really stiff, with very little movement. Just wondering how other people have done after the operation?? Any advice would be great
anthony plews I'm having the same issue now, I'm curious if your stillness in your wrist got better? And was it painful after you got your cast off when you started rehab?
Hi Ryan, I am a senior in high school and fractured my scaphoid about two weeks ago in a football game, after falling on an outstretched hand. I immediately went to the hospital after it happened and they diagnosed it from there. After x-ray, they knew it was a scaphoid fracture but luckily it wasn't broken completely down the middle as yours was. My orthopedist told me I would need to wear a cast for two months. I am doing everything I can to heal it because I want to be healthy before wrestling season starts. Do you have any skepticism about the doctor's prediction of how long you think my fracture could take to heal? Also, is your wrist back to normal now? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks.
Alexander Rateb also a senior broke my scaphoid almost 8 months ago, gain alot of motion vertically but horizontally it has some motion but nowhere were I was before. I work it out everyday btw
dude...same incident with me. today is 45th day. I visited doctor to remove my cast. he removed and did a x-ray. but when doctor noticed my x-ray he said that I haven't healed completely. so he again applied a cast. 45 days but healed. is it normal?
This sounds very similar to what I'm going through at the moment. Currently stuck in a brace and waiting to see a hand specialist, since the doctors at A&E weren't too sure what was wrong :)
I broke my scaphoid in football. I went to the doctor got x rays they misread them and i went from October to may without even knowing it was broken. I then went to a orthopedic and he said it was broken I tried to let it heal I even bought a ultrasonic healing device. It healed then re broke the next football season. I am having surgery Tuesday. My experience has sucked ass
This happened to me on Halloween weekend, I had keyhole surgery on it last Wednesday and I’m still in so much pain! Can’t drive or anything and it’s stressing me out! 😭 I haven’t had a cast on it at all because the doctor that done the surgery doesn’t like casts, which I’m pretty happy about but it stresses me out because I’m trying to start to use my hand again but I can’t 😭
Well their goes my softball season down the drain. I have been in hand therapy for a few months and it hasn't gone away. But I am not going to get anymore surgeries. I've already had five surgeries and can't deal with the pain.
Broke it Thursday when I flew off my bike. It was the top and I have a cast that doesn't immobilize my thumb and is up to near my elbow for 6 weeks (July 8th). It only has a dull ache in my cast so that's okay. Although my driving road test is mid July so I'm nervous I'll fail because of stiffness in my left hand (the broken wrist, I'm a right dominant) because that's when my cast will be off. What do you think?
My story is pretty funny... So I was on a teen travel camp thing on the west coast for about 5 weeks, and we stopped off in Montana for a rest break. So in this park, two friends of mine and I went up to this outdoor bathroom building thing where some local kids were on the roof. So we climbed up a nearby tree to get up there with them, about ten feet up. Now we were having fun, ripping off tiles and flicking them like cards at people... Until our pissed off tour bus drivers came at us. Now me and my friends didn't see them, but the local kids did. They thought they were cops, cuz their uniforms look like it, so we believed them cuz we didn't have enough time to check for ourselves. So the kids ran off the side of the roof like badasses and made a clean escape. My friends and I do parkour, but I'm still a rookie. I haven't gotten the roll down yet. So they jump off, roll, and they're good, but when I jump, I land on both feet, tuck in, and fall to my hands and knees. I run into the bathroom and wait it out in a stall till the drivers leave, while my knee is a bloodied mess and my palms are scratched up. So after washing it off in the sink, we go back to the hotel, and I start to realize I can't bend my wrist. Like, at all. So I assume it's just a bruise and I ice it down. After the swelling goes down and I wait a few days, I get like 50% mobility, so I assume it's a sprain. A month later, I get home, not once did the wrist itself actually hurt, I get it checked out, and turns out I broke my scaphoid. So I got the pin and I get the cast off in a lil less than a week, and I'm totally psyched to have my left hand back... Can't use spacebar or joysticks, how the hell do they suppose I'm supposed to play any video games...
I broke my scaphoid last year in June and it healed but still weak, on Tuesday I rolled down a hill at school and my thumb went underneath my body and it hurt a lot, it's been 48 hrs and it's getting more swollen and painful, do you think it's broken
I tore ligaments in my hand and had a cast on for a month and a day and a half latter my friend tripped me at school and I feel with an outstretched hand. It hurt but I kept telling myself that I was fine. Well I told my self that for a week. until I went to the hospital and find out I fractured my radius and scaphoid. I had a cast on for 3 frigen months. Now it has been off for a month and it still hurts. could it still be broken?
hi brother! thnaks for sharing, i just broke mine a month ago i had a total fracture on the waist of the scaphoid, i will have surgery next week, they will put a screw on along wth some bone graft. im a Little upset from all the reviews ive read about poeple who went throught he same, many of them seem not to regain their normal strength and motion-range. thats sacry since im just 25 and martial arts was big part of my life, not only a passion but a profession. how is your wrist now afterall thisfew years? i know your case is different becaue you didnt break it completey nor dit it was displaced , no screw for you, but still i would like to refer to your situation since you look Young enough to fully recover =)
Is schaphoid fracture same as schalphunate dissociation? Because i had the ligament torn between my schaphoid and linate bones and there is a gab in between ! I did the surgery after 6 months of the injury
I'm going thru this now. I was at work and had someone open a door and hit me straight on full blast with the door. it hit so hard that it knocked my fitbit off. I iced it like crazy and thought it was just a sprain. After 3 days it didn't get any better so I went to the er and it was fractured right down the center. I'm in a pretty purple cast and go back to the dr Wednesday have the cast removed and have another x-ray taken to see if it is healing right and if not I have to have surgery. Yay me.....not.
If you broke it in the middle you should be ok. it gets complicated if you broke it closer to your forearm. In this case you would be out of luck as this thing gets its blood supply from the distal end. The proximal end has hardly any blood supply which makes it very difficult to heal.
Mine did swell up and hurt whenever i tried to bend it backwards. Sometimes the fracture is too small to be certain, and if that's the case then just keep a splint or brace on it for most of the day and keep it on for at least 3-4 weeks. Keep trying to bend your wrist slightly, but if the pain keeps persisting then get it checked again. My doctor couldn't find anything, but she sent the x-rays to an orthopedist who managed to find the crack.
I fractured my scaphoid 5 days ago and it was barely swollen and had no bruising it only hurt when I gripped stuff so I just thought it was sprained but I went to the hospital yesterday because the doctor recommended it and they pushed it about and stuff and it didn't really hurt too much but they said they suspected it was a scaphoid fracture but probably soft tissue but I would need a cast even if the X-ray didn't show anything just incase so they gave me an X-ray and it turned out it had been broken all week so they put a plaster of Paris cast on but I'm hoping in a few days I will get a lighter one 😄
I had a possible punch fracture so was in a light/medium duty splint, then exactly a week later, ended up upgrading to a heavy duty splint after a suspected scaphoid fracture after over rotating on a somersault during my gymnastics training and using my hand to break my fall (thought I was superman for a minute and flew off the mats and all and onto solid ground, nice, with the same hand as well as the one previously injured, clever I know right?). I've been in a cast now for 3 weeks (went from plaster to fibre glass after an MRI last week) and already can'y wait to get the damn thing off seems it's been 7 weeks that I've not been able to use it now and it's been immobilised. XD
I have a scaphoid fractured for 2 years now like completely Broke it. I didn't wear any splint or have a surgery i just continue playing basketball but Don't try it . It hurts more than break up but i still manage to play until now but it still hurts but not that hurt anymore I hope you can give me some advice
i had something just like yours, 3 year old injury while playing basketball. i fell again while playing recently and found there was a old injury. doctor i had to get the surgery or else it'll become painful arthritis in coming years. so the surgery was now or never. so take my advice and get it done.
Mine has been broken for a year now. About 4 months ago the doctor told me it wasn't healing fast enough and told me he wanted to do another operation to remove my scaphoid and then fuse my wrist for support. I refused the operation and have been resting my hand with some light therapy. I'll see the doctor January 19 2016 which marks a full year after my second surgery. If it's not healed by then I'll accept the truth and have my hand fused.
+Martin so as of January 19th my doctor finally gave me some good news.. I'm not 100% healed yet but I'm about 80% and on my way to a full recovery. No joke the news was so good I literally cried in the doctors office. I can finally see a future of me riding my bike and my motorcycle again. It was a dream come true. But the end of this year i should be as good as I was before. It still hurts every now and then with sharp pains but knowing I'm making a full recovery is worth any pain in there while I move or stretch it. I'm at peace that it will hurt and probably for life. But I have my hand back and it's getting stronger everyday
michael mcallister I hear you. My doctor told me my wrist would never be the same after my operation, and it isn't. I bawled my eyes out in the doctors office lol.
sorry for the lateeeeee sorr man but glad to hear .. hows it all now? i still have the screw in my scapoid etc but im getting on with it and was fine but i was recently in a bad accident fractured my pelvis etc .. now gotta get over all this
Thanks for this. My experience is very similar. I stocked my bike and landed on my hand. Cast has been on for two weeks but they want it to stay on at least 6 weeks from now 😢
Hey bro please reply to me I broke my scaphoid on Saturday evening and it's now Tuesday I went to the hospital on the Saturday night and they x-rayed it confirming it was broken . However now 3 days on it is still aching I have a spline on it I have an appointment at the hospital on Monday the 18th where I think they'll put a cast on it. After breaking it how many days did it ache for?
Broke my scaphoid and wore a cast for 6 months. Also obtained depression along the way. However I can back stronger than ever and I’m doing much better
Feel you man... These setbacks are heavy
How are you now?
Wow tnx
@@gadwalidjbabu5130 I injured myself again but in a different place 😂 still struggling with my mental health too. This wrist is fine though. Although still weaker than my other side (though it isn’t my dominant side)
About the get surgery on mine and am not looking forward to the depression I will acquire
I'm going through it now,and taking a shower with one hand is a son of a bitch
dawnill mobley The solid shampoos from Lush saved my life!
I used to wrap a plastic bag on my cast each day man
I fractured my scaphoid, I went to the hospital when it first happened and the x-ray showed no fracture.
Appreciate it
Hey brother i too had schaphoid surgery will I be able to play basketball again
I'm currently in a splint waiting 10 days for my next X-ray they said ive probably fractured it so lots of appointments to come.... Yay 😒
howd u end up?
It takes time.
and how you did it? to make your wrist functional? i mean what kind of exercices?
Did it ever make it back to 100%?
this is a serious thing. if you delay for treatment, then you are risking the vessels behind scaphoid which means they have to fuse the wrist. Fusing means you cannot bend it.
i recently just broke my scaphoid by punching a wall lol
I broke my right with a punch
Yo i did the same like 20 mis ago and its kinda just swollen idk if its broken yet
same here my little finger and the finger beside was sweollen, and there is a small bump on the scaphoid i get some pain in certain motions but its not bad, il get it checked out incase it actually is broken or fractured
White gang, same.
I broke mine in a fight and didnt notice until i broke it again a year later doing yard work
If anyone is curious about my experience, here's the story.
Wish me luck.
hey how did your recovery go, do you have occasional pain. did you achieve full range of motion of your wrist?
I had an scaphoid surgery and inserted a screw and my wrist is not moving ( flexible upward or downward) ut sucks maaan
The same thing
me too
Hows ur hand now?
@@anupama_anilkumar its not fully ok but i am working on it and i am adjusted to it
I'm the same mate.
I broke mine by snowboarding and I thought it was sprained so It was broken for 5 days before I went to the doctors
Same here
I broke my Scaphoid two days ago, I went to the hospital straight away incase anything happened to my wrist. Luckily they put a splint on my wrist about three hours after the accident. Idk if I need surgery yet or how long a cast will be needed. I play the piano and I'm really hoping that this break won't affect that so wish me luck.
Can you now move hand and rotation?
I broke mine like 3 years ago i noticed it like month ago when i went to x-ray no i have to have a surgery to fix it. Sorry for bad english🙈
I just broke mine yesterday
mine may be broken, happened 5 days ago. got a splint and the pain is getting worse. i cant hold anything without pain. and meds only take the edge off. i go back monday to get new xrays. i was told to wear a splint and i could go back to work. little did i know they took the wrong view of xray and i actually wasnt supposed to be using my hand at all. i worked 1 day for 12 hours and another day for 10.5. which was near impossible because its my dominant hand -_- so if it wasnt broken before, it probably is now.......................and yes showering with one hand is awful. ill let you know how it goes on monday!
if there is no union of the bone, the only way is to fuse the bone which means loss of motion in wrist or live the pain for the rest of your life. So to have a proper union, do not even think about working or using the hand. If you don’t take this serious, you become disabled in the wrist.
Broke my tailbone my ankle and scaphoid
I was skateboarding at the park at night and ended up falling off of my board. Ended up spraining my ankle and possibly broke my scaphoid. I have a splint on now. Seeing a specialist tomorrow.
Colton Evans How are you now?
In april 2016 i was riding an atv and i was about to loose balance so i held onto the grips as hard as i could and i ended it up hitting a tree. I was launched off the atv but my wrist was so locked on the grips that when i was thrown off the atv, my scaphoid snapped in half! I also broke my patella (knee cap) and tibia (leg) in the accident. Its been six months and i did not need surgery. I had a cast and got it off in july. Now my wrist is all back to normal. And as for my knee and leg, they healed before the scaphoid (in june)
I broken my wrist wnsday
The reason for the thumb with the cast is so the bone can set. Simple.
The position of the bone it keeps the blood flowing in the hand etc so it needs to be in perfect position full time
Magnus Martin well said
I break my two scaphoid the left first and he was the worst and 2 month after I got off my cast I break my other one. Let’s go 2019-2020 my worst years ever
how was the recovery??
I push shopping carts at a Grocery store ! Would my wrist go back to normal ? The doctor said I can work if it’s start hurting ?
I just came across ur video..i have just broken my scaphoid ita been almost a week and it hurts
Just realized after pain in my wrist for a year that my scaphoid is broken and I need surgery :(
That's apparently very normal because I didn't know for 2 years that mine was broke... but it's so bad to a point that as I'm typing my thumb is locking up constantly
typical xray miss..so sorry. this is where mri shines
the cast you had, were you able to do normal working activities that required 2 hands?
i broke my scaphoid while i was hanging from the roof loose the grip ....its been a month tdy first i put on splint for two weaks then i repeated the xray it was broken in the middle and i put on a cast....
broke my scaphoid a few days ago (from the xray it looks like hairline) :(( national exams in 2.5 months please heal 🙏
Darren lim get a screw ASAP
Breaking your scaphoid is a royal pain special missing work ! Paper work is a pain
@@Lookingforinfo i have the same problem how do you feel now
I fractured my scaphoid a year ago.
Yeah the bone was seperated for so long with no blood supply that the bone couldn't be saved so they had to take a large graft from my knee and shape it into the shape of my scaphoid and the screw it together
I appreciate the support my follow up is in a few days and then we will do a test yo see if the graft is taking fingers crossed
Oh and I have no idea how I broke young and dumb Lol
Probably when I jumped out of my Dads car @35 mph
Taking the splint off end of the week to see mobility/ progress
how did your recovery process go? i’m uninsured too I hope i’m not fucked
I took 4 days to notice and I thought that I'd sprained my wrist😓
Sara Lucy u got of light took the doctors 8 months to spot mine
Same played tennis in gym and hockey before we found out it was broken
6 months after that did the surgery
i broke my right scaphoid when i fell playing skating ... back in 2000 i was 20 years old.. im 37 years old now ... thought its only a sprain... so i go to the physical therapist that i was thought the right doctor for my painfull wrist .. my first x ray show no broken bone in my wrist... so i ignored it that its only a sprain ... but its too late after 2008 when it feel stiffness and severe pain in my right wrist .. that time my friends told me i should go to orthopedic doctor and then find a shocking discovery in my x ray with different angles that my right wrist scaphiod is broken and have arthritis... that doctor said to me that i go for surgery to put plates in my wrist ... but i will lose some of my hand movement... so i decided to leave not to go to surgery...just i ask to my doctor to give me a priscribed medecine for pain.. thank you sorry for my english...
Gurinderpreet Singh hey please, how is your wrist now?
hey sorry for hearing that how is your hand now
I broke my scaphoid in high school early in football season.. didn't know it was broken for 2 months!! then got put in a cast for 4 months. the recovery after getting out of the cast sucked it took like 9 months to finally get feeling better. it's good now but it'll probably never be the same
I broke that shitty scaphoid yesterday in a ice hockey game. How is your wrist feeling different now?
Devin Bird lol well at least something good happened hah. take care brother
Tnx. Just got in to this. Video still helps. Good luck!
I broke mine less that 2 hours ago and I'm freaking out!! I'm a figure skater and I can't just not skate! I feel like crying ice skating is my LIFE!
Human Person get a cast now you will heal faster and not go through surgery!!!!!
Did it fully heal?
I broke mine 3 years ago, didn't know it was fractured but I was in a cast regardless for 2 months and I thought that was it, but my wrist still hurt and I couldn't do anything because it put a lot of stress on it
3 years later I decided to get an x-ray and followup CT scan and found out my scaphoid was fractured and didn't heal and is now a non union I'm getting surgery in 2 weeks : / they said to complicated hope it goes well
mine.. same ass you, broken without knowing.. .. .. . anyways i love my self...
+VANflawless flawlessNIXION get well soon, i had my surgery should i upload it?
hey body I'm sorry for hearing that I'm in same situation as you how is your hand now?

hey how is your hand now ?
It will never be 100% again but it's bearable pain. Had surgery 15 years ago.
Ok I know this is very late but I just broke my scaphoid bone yesterday and I have to see a specialist tomorrow and I might get a cast😬
Chloe Rock What happened can you play guitar or do fitness etc. does it hurt?
I am in a cast cause my scaphoid bone is broken
Brother I had schaphoid fracture and I had surgery like they put a screw on my hand can I be able to do pushups and gym in my life again
Plaese help me... from 9 months i had a crack in scaphoid and i did a cast for 3 weeks..and i started going to gym after 5 months of moving cast but pain is still exists when i left even simple weights in gym 😢😢 tell me what i do and how long i should have rest please thanks🌷
could you move it much as the beginning?
Hi, i had surgery with a screw put in. I got my cast off 2 days ago. My wrist is really stiff, with very little movement. Just wondering how other people have done after the operation?? Any advice would be great
anthony plews I'm having the same issue now, I'm curious if your stillness in your wrist got better? And was it painful after you got your cast off when you started rehab?
anthony plews hey i might get a surgery too please reply i got some questions thanks
Hi Ryan,
I am a senior in high school and fractured my scaphoid about two weeks ago in a football game, after falling on an outstretched hand.
Just found out I broke my scaphoid on my Monday and have had it broken for 3 weeks. It hadn't healed since then. I'm in a cast now. Sad times.
This sounds very similar to what I'm going through at the moment. Currently stuck in a brace and waiting to see a hand specialist, since the doctors at A&E weren't too sure what was wrong :)
I have broken my scaphoid and I have a cast on for 12 weeks and may need surgery
Helped me a lot because i have my scaphoid broken and get a cast in 2 days :/ so now i know what happens in future
😭 I haven’t had a cast on it at all because the doctor that done the surgery doesn’t like casts, which I’m pretty happy about but it stresses me out because I’m trying to start to use my hand again but I can’t 😭
how you doin
How is your wrist doing now ? How is the mobility and strength in it ? I just got the surgery for mine and I’m very nervous so please reply back to me
How long is healing process if everthing is goes normal?
Mine took about three months and I got the cast off a month ago and still have to do exercises.
Melissa Fritz how is your wrist now? Can you bend it downward and upward?
This happened to me to it’s half way done healing but I’m a kid and it’s like almost impossible to break as a kid
is it normal to have pain after surgery in a cast (few weeks after) no swelling but some movements hurt
My scaphoid healed in 8 week
Abhishek Pradhan mine took 6 months...
How long does it take to have full range of motion?
My wrist is broke now I'm home waited no for my family to come home and I broke it yesterday
I broke my scaphoid playing high school Football right before the championship game

Logan McInall might be a malunion. why weren’t you careful about this?
I just tripped and almost fell on the pavement then I used my left hand to block the fall after that I felt so much pain my whole hand was swelling up
hi brother! thnaks for sharing, i just broke mine a month ago i had a total fracture on the waist of the scaphoid, i will have surgery next week, they will put a screw on along wth some bone graft. im a Little upset from all the reviews ive read about poeple who went throught he same, many of them seem not to regain their normal strength and motion-range. thats sacry since im just 25 and martial arts was big part of my life, not only a passion but a profession. how is your wrist now afterall thisfew years? i know your case is different becaue you didnt break it completey nor dit it was displaced , no screw for you, but still i would like to refer to your situation since you look Young enough to fully recover =)
How is it bro
Does your wrist still hurt ? Is it back to normal ?
broke mine yesterday. Had to ride another 3 hours out the woods.
On a scale of one to ten. What was the pain
In my experience, maybe a 5 tops.
I broke my scaphoid and i had screw in it how long does it take to return basketball
1-2 years for me. Had surgery 15 years ago. You'll have some pain the rest of your life.
How long did he have his cast on for then?
if its swelling does it mean that you fractured it? because i'm 11 and i had 2 x rays that were not really clear
I can relate I just broke my scaphoid a couple months back and I just got a cast on it
How now?
I BROKE MY SCAPHIOD THE SAME EXACT WAY, TODAY WAS THE DAY I GOT MY 2nd CAST OFF. I've had a cast for 6 weeks.
ive had a cast for 4 months...
Please update your progress. This worst i had same fracture as yours. So please guide me through your experience. How is your wrist now?
How is yours now?
@KolawoleFalodun mine is now functioning OK. Only I can not lift heavy load, otherwise it will start to hurt
How you get on bud?
Cast has been on for two weeks but they want it to stay on at least 6 weeks from now 😢
Ben Turner I'm not seeing an orthopedic physician for this reason exactly. I gotta work
Hows ur hand now?
Where you able to bend your 4 fingers not your thumb
Well I got lucky bc my scophoid fracture was closer the thumb good blood supply !
I’m going going crazy missing work
I broke my scaphoid last Thursday and it sucks so bad
Hey bro please reply to me I broke my scaphoid on Saturday evening and it's now Tuesday I went to the hospital on the Saturday night and they x-rayed it confirming it was broken . However now 3 days on it is still aching I have a spline on it I have an appointment at the hospital on Monday the 18th where I think they'll put a cast on it.
