Hi ,i have a scaphoid fractura last month , Dr saying to have a surgery and fix with screw after my MRI report , i am worry about my surgery can i go back to my normal life after surgery , as per x ray its Cracked near to thumb upper side of bone , plz suggest me , Thankful in advance
A soccer ball hit my thumb and jammed it and my docter is telling me this is likely what happened, waiting on X-rays but I have all symptoms and areas of swelling 😅😢
Hi Seeboke, sorry to hear about your injury. That would be an unusual way to fracture your scaphoid, but certainly possible. Glad to hear that your doctor is taking it seriously. All the best!
@@iandowley8059Good news!
Doctor came back with X-ray results and said it’s not fractured and most likely soft tissue
Glad to hear it, @@JBC_Spotting! Keep an eye on it (scaphoid fractures sometimes don't show up on initial X-rays), but hopefully this means you are on track for a great recovery. All the best 😊
Hello, i have been ignoring my wrist injury for the past 5 months, apparently did my scans the doc said its scaphoid and landed up here, doc said i will require a screw and then a healing process. I was wondering is possible for the internal wound to not heal by any chance?
Really sorry to hear about your injury 😢. Unfortunately, your doc has it right. A scaphoid fracture that has been untreated for 5 months has a VERY low chance of healing without surgery. If it was my wrist, I would be lining up for the operation ASAP. I trust you get the very best of care both during and after the surgery. Here's to a fantastic recovery!
@@iandowley8059 thank you for your reply! Means a lot. Curious to know if there have been cases that it doesn't heal ?
@@rohanzoink4769 Sadly yes, there is never a guarantee of good healing, no matter which treatment pathway you choose. It is a matter of trying to maximise your odds of a good outcome. In this case it is a pretty simple choice - a very good chance of good healing with surgery (but not guaranteed), or a very good chance of no healing without surgery. The other main variable which has a big negative impact on bone healing is smoking - if you are a smoker, quitting even temporarily until a few weeks after your surgery will significantly reduce the risk of the bone not healing. 😊
When I fractured my scaphoid (waist) I didn't feel it for the first 24hrs. It was weird.
It's not always like that, but it is surprising how common your experience is. Scaphoid fractures can often be overlooked - people assume it was 'just a sprain' because the pain is so minimal at first. Hope you made a good recovery!
@iandowley8059 It was overlooked at first but I received a 2nd opinion and they found it. Healed without surgery thankfully after 8 weeks. Lost minor mobility but it unionized!
@officeroinker440 you feet in only having plaster for 8 week
You back to normal life how month to go
Buenas tardes necesito ayuda3
My scaphoid have fractured 5 year ago and just detected it on this year.I will get surgery in this December.I quite confuse about should i get surgery or not because of it not interrupt my activity life.
Hi WEWEED, so sorry to hear about your injury. Having a scaphoid fracture that has failed to heal is very unhealthy for your wrist in the long term, so if it were my wrist I would definitely have surgery. Of course, there are no guarantees of a good outcome either way, but the odds would be in your favour with the surgical pathway. All the best, whatever you decide.
Where are you from?
Me? Thailand.
@@iandowley8059 I am done surgery.I have a gap between waist and proximal about 5 mm.He put a headless screw and use bone graft from radius(not vbg).Thank to Ian to do this video for be an information 😘🥰.
@@weweed687 A 5mm gap definitely needs surgery! Hope you have a great recovery. All the best
