I am in awe of the collection of raw ingredients you got. Must have taken years and years to collect all that. Request you to please do a studio tour and guide us noobs how to manage such a collection.
Many thanks for these highly educational videos you provide Ryan. The depth you go into explaining the process is second to none and extremely helpful to a novice like myself.
Jacques Cavallier is my favorite perfumer and LV is my favorite fragrance house! Ombre Nomade is probably my favorite fragrance so far. I really like Nuit de Feu too! I've been wanting to try something with real oud oil for a while, but I'm not sure if either of those have it. I just got a bottle of Frederic Malle Promise yesterday, and I might try Night at some point, but spending $1,300 on a 50 ml fragrance, especially a blind buy, is a pretty tall order for me lol but it looks good!
Hi quick question where do you buy your materials from eg hedione and helional I just found your channel and subscribed so unsure if you’ve mentioned before
Great demonstration! I learned a ton. Im currently trying to source ingredients to study formulas such as this and others. Is it possible to share your price breakdown per material? I think you mentioned its in the $25 ballpark range for 20% concentration, however I'm getting around $45 on my spreadsheet😢 maybe the prices i found werent exactly the best, but i wouldve figured it would be like maybe $5 more overall, not $20!! Haha. Thanks for a great video
@@RyanParfums yeah, I realize that I made a silly little mistake on my spreadsheet when in process of sourcing ingredients and always checked the price for items at their 1g or 1ml price on the shop's page... Now instead I have my price reflected by a reasonable 'bulk price' for the amount I would realistically buy at one time and sure enough it chopped the formula price down to nearly exactly what you mentioned, and a little extra but nothing insane based on the type of oud I play around with. I'm currently looking into grabbing a formula for Amouage's Silver Oud on creative formulas! It seems to be quite heavy handed with naturals, and a good bit of overlap with this ombre nomade's ingredients, so I'm excited to give both a whirl when I get everything in line and see how they differ!
Hi Ryan,❤ For the upcoming videos, try to feature some floral fragrances with tuberose, like Gucci Bloom Eau de Parfum or Love Tuberose by Amouage. Thank you!
5:58 I don't get it with the numbers... how a 267- Hedione translates to 9,5 grams for a 20% concentration on 75grams total formula? 75grams-80%=15, 20%=15 15/1000=0,015 267*0,015=4,005gr If "Hedione 50" means that is prediluted at 50% then you should add 8,010grams. I'm not judgmental at all, i'm just an amateur on perfumery and try to find what i'm missing here!
Long story short, ignore my numbers in the video. 🤪 Long story long… In the formula, Hedione is 26.7% of the concentrate (267/1000). The batch I’m making is 85g at a 20% concentrate. 20% * 85g = 17g concentrate, 68g EtOH I add 9.5g of Hedione 50: 4.75g Hedione, 4.75g EtOH. 4.75g / 17g = 28% I.e. I overshot the Hedione by about 1% in the batch I made - 28% realized vs 26.7% target.
Have you ever worked with the Lentisque (Mastic gum)? It's present in some fragrances, most notably in Eau d'Ikar by Sisley! What is your opinion on it? Would you do a video about it near future?
I get the is from The Good Scents Company. It’s noted as the “substantivity” on a blotter, i.e. how long it lasts. Take it with a grain of salt. I use it as a guideline.
I think blending and evaluating in general is a good exercise. Also, depending on what you have and don’t have, you might be able to get pretty close to the end fragrance even without all of the materials.
It’s pretty dang close. There are subtle differences in the opening, which may be chalked up to the type of real Oud chosen for the formula. As a standalone formula, it’s fantastic. It sits close to the skin, but it’s rich and elegant.
Hi, nice job! would it be possible to make the formulas with only natural ingredients or as few chemicals as possible? I am not asking you to recreate the formula but do you think there is a way to make it basically natural?
This is impossible for the formulas presented on this channel. Modern perfumery is based on the use of aroma chemicals. The vast majority of perfumes consist of somewhere between 70% and 100% aroma chemicals and 0% to 30% naturals. You simply can not get the performance and style of modern perfumery with only naturals plus you're quite limited in the range of perfumes you can make that way. On the other hand: you wrote "I am not asking you to recreate the formula but do you think there is a way to make it basically natural?". Well, if you don't want to recreate the formula you can of course do whatever you want and use only naturals but don't expect to end up with a perfume that resembles a modern perfume. You would throw yourself back to the 19th century. If you like 19th century perfumes you could do that yes.
I don't think so. The point is that to create natural perfumes that perform well, evolve and are modern, you have to be an absolutely great perfumer. It is much more difficult than using chemistry. No chemical product is trying to evoke anything that doesn't exist naturally. On the contrary. I believe that it is simply a matter of lowering costs, not depending on natural products that are affected by many variables that can affect their availability and that always remain the same. And in a simpler way to compose. There are quite a few perfume houses that rely on using only natural products and their creations blow your mind.
Your subscriber from India, 1. I want to know how much of this concentration is close to the og. ? 2. Luzi, guvidan sells fine fragrances (dupes), can we use that by adding perfumers alcohol into it.... Or it is diluted with different stuff so that we cannot make it like real perfume that it is cloning.

Is there anyway of buying just concentrates? Then diluting? To make let’s say 100ml worth.

This is a *very* interesting material. I have only worked with it once. It may be an ingredient in Tobacco Vanille. :-)

Hey Ryan,
I don't have all of the materials, but a good chunk, is it still a good practice to try and mix those that I have for the perfume? Thanks
I think blending and evaluating in general is a good exercise. Also, depending on what you have and don’t have, you might be able to get pretty close to the end fragrance even without all of the materials.
What you are offering is great but how can I make a sample of this in grams?
I mean 10 grams?
You need to do some math. Multiple each ingredient by 0.01 and you’ll have a 10g formula.

Are you using Javanol neat here, is it 1% of the formular or is it diluted ?
In the video, it's predicted to 10%.

1. I have no idea. I doubt it’s 20% though.
2. I’m unfamiliar with this, but you should be able to add ethanol to almost any perfume concentrate.
Creative Formulas recommends 20% for this perfume and that's also the percentage Ryan mentioned a few times BTW.
If you purchase from Luzi, you can just add in your desired alcohol content, and you're set. Have made over 50 dupes from Luzi oils.
