A trailer for the BBC/Wonderworks version of "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe." I found it on a DVD version of the animated cartoon of the same name.
I used to LOVE this movie as a kid. I would watch it almost everyday, we had it on VHS. When I saw the new one I was a bit disappointed because I had always loved this one so much. I suppose that with all the new technology it's better but I'll always remember how great it was when I was young.
This version is way more true to the original books. Maybe because it's a British production and they were more in tune with Lewis' vision. Can't wait till Wednesday when I get the whole series on DVD. :-)
Whoever did this commercial probably figured that music is so easily recognized and the movies are so popular that it'd make people drop what they're doing to pay attention. Personally I'm turned off by this tactic. I say make new music and let the novel distinguish itself from tolkien. After the Middle Earth tales, Narnia is probably the biggest novel series to have a child-friendly live action in recent years. Let it make it's own niche WITHOUT imitating it's biggest rival.
+Emerald Ibis Relax, folks. I don't know how Alpha & Omega got the rights to use the Fellowship theme. Maybe they didn't. It was just a trailer on an obscure DVD after all.
i was obsessed with this when i was a kid. watched it so many times i knew every word off by heart. the new one is good but to me bbc one will always be the best.
now that was definitely my childhood version of the chronicles of narnia because i remember having the video tapes of those movies and would watch those with my encyclopedia brown video tapes and also along with my bibleman videos
The BBC also did Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawntreader in 1989 and finally the Silver Chair in 1990. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe was produced as a film in 2005, Prince Caspian in 2008, Voyage of the Dawntreader in 2010 and more films are planned over the next 4 or 5 years.
Yeah, I def. loved the BBC version of the books. My parents read the books to my brother and I when we were traveling and bought us the movies. I still love them. I have them here at college with me. I only wish that I could upgrade from the VHS's to the DVD's that they've come out with.
I watched those BBC Narnia videos over and over as a child! This trailer is goofy, though - with the LOTR music, which wasn't even written back then! ha
Aha, it´s like Star Wars. I like the older movies better too. Because they were so cool. Fantastic special effects and other nice stuff. It´s like childhood memories that can´t bet washed away. They are there to stay forever. =)
It's true that the Magician's Nephew is chronologically first. However, the LWW was written and published first. And I think that it should be the first one read because it is the best introduction to the spirit of the stories and character of Aslan. I don't know why the BBC never made the rest of the movies.
There you go. I also like the creativity that went into the newer ones, as opposed to the older ones which seemed an attempt at making an exact replica of the book. But yeah. They all have their strong and weak points, and both should be enjoyed for what they are.
I love this more than the new movies, because I watch it when I was younger. It give me a special feeling. And I think the Witch is better in the this version. =)
@Siveywiveyx If you'd checked the video description, you would have seen this trailer was from a DVD. Furthermore, the trailer is for the program on the specific company's DVD version of this movie. I guess they licensed the LOTR music.
I agree with the previous comment 100%. Disney's attempt at "the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" had lots of cash thrown at it, and as a result was cluttered with CGI and lacked the quaint British charm that surrounds C. S. Lewis's classic novels.
@ccsays yeah the new one's story is rushed because they don't have as much time. that's why the movies never live up to the novels because you can only give so much of the plot. this one was a miniseries and could afford to move slow
Nostalgia often makes older things SEEM better when in fact they are not. I personally preferred Tilda Swinton's performance as the White Witch. She didn't seem as... over-the-top as this one did.
Heh. You just agreed with me in a round-about way. ;) Childhood memories often = nostalgia. Oh, I agree that in some film-to-book adaptations, story elements are missing, but that's not really the point. Both LOTR and Narnia are stories which will evoke images of massive fights, glorious lands, etc... Before, technology did not exist to do them justice, and the acting was... campy at best. I'm not saying the old ones are worthless. I loved them... but I like the new ones better.
I realize I'm way behind on the conversations about this, but I gotta put in my two cents. I absolutely loved these BOOKS as a kid and remember being so disappointed when these films came out because they in no way lived up to the the ideas I had in my head, ie Lucy, costumed animals. The Disney version is better at that simply because of their technological ability. However, I was also disappointed with Disney because they altered the story too much. That said I like the new version much better
Aha, I got your point. I love the new ones too but in a different way. Like the movies of LOTR. But I don´t like to compare them with the books because there will always be things and details missing in the movies. But have to see the books as books and movies as movies, appreciate them for what they are. Like the old movies versions of Narnia and the new. The older because of how they made them with old technique and the new ones because they are cool and amazing.
Guys, I'm very confused. This came out ages before Lord Of The Rings, but the LOTR music is used in the trailer. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that music was composed specially for LOTR, so it couldn't even have been made when this trailer was created. Does anyone know if the music was floating around beforehand and LOTR just borrowed it?
I don't know if they stole it. HOPEFULLY, as this was on a DVD made by a Christian company, they got a license. However, on the DVD, a copyright notice follows the trailer, and nothing is said of the music. (For some reason, it didn't rip with this video.)
It´s about childhood memories. And I like the older ones more because they are made more like the books. It´s like the movies of Lord of the Rings, the books are better. Often in new movies there missing the tale and the story in books. Tending to making the battles big with computer effects. I like the old effects because they made things out of ordinary material. Like in Star Wars the made the bases in the old movies of milkpackets. But these movies are great too!
It was a good film, but i still prefer the disney version lol.. i remember the cartoon version! I watched that when i was really little lol it scared me :P
This is really good! I love the old Narnia!!! I was laughing so hard when I heard LOTR music. I was like, "Wow, Narnia with LOTR music...That's really weird and yet...cool." Haha, nice work! I'm going to look at your other videos.
Nothing rude about that... I like almost all the movies that have been made based on Narnia. (A couple of documentaries about it I found REALLY grating.) This one is an almost vertabim adaptation of the book, the Disney/Walden Media version is a dramatic/epic adaptation, and the animated one is... well, animated.
Hey, I know I just thought I would wirte the ''rude'' thing because some people below have said they don't like it! =) And i didn't mean any disrespect it was just my opinion! :L xxx
What part about constantly calling the children "Your majesties"; confronting a wolf on a frozen river; constantly whining about their parents, war, how they aren't heroes, etc.; reducing Aslan to basically the role of an army general; neglecting the deeper magic from before the dawn of time; etc. is truer to the book than the almost constant direct quotation that the BBC version did? Have you been reading a "young readers" abridged version?
lol that wasnt directed at you - the person responsable at the studio. I used to watch this as a kid and look on here for some nostalgic clip and i come across that - god it really pissed me off lol for the reasons i ranted about. So sorry for any personal offence - not intended :)
And I'm going to disagree with you again. MN is not "better", it is a history. A backstory. When the children arrive in Narnia in LWW, they do not know anything - they, and in turn, the reader, must learn as they go. This is the nature of storytelling: the story's elements are revealed in such a way that the story is gripping, enjoyable, and fresh. That was part of the charm of LWW: the fact that we DIDN'T know anything about Narnia, the Witch, or Aslan at the beginning.
Suck it up it was made in the 80's. If they had done this movie in the 1990's or so and the actors were little kids in 1988 they would have better technology and would have made the perfect Narnia movie. The new one emphazises special effects and remarkable fight scenes and stunts way too much. Had this movie been made several years later, no crappy remake would have been made.
I love the movie and I'm sure these were great for their time. I wish people would stop swearing. Narnia and LOTR are very similiar. I resent the Barney comment.
I have studied Lewis for years, including at university. And again, I say that the Disney version slaps Lewis and his stories in the face. It is true that Edmund was whiney in the book, but Peter wasn't. Peter was a boy to admire in the books. He was just as bad as Edmund in the Disney movie.
This show how technology has changed tbh I watched it to compare it did creep me out as the acting was a bit over done in some areas and the beavers are creepy but it's still pretty good I prefer the present day films though
have u read the guide about CS lewis and narnia? if u read the guide, u would understand how the newer version connects better with the books AND CS lewis himself. And of course, the bible.
Is this the only other narnia movie? Ive been looking for one that i watched when I was like 9 or somethin...loved that one... please dont tell me it was this one hahaha this is cheesy as a ..uh..cheese? hmph
Are you kidding me?? The new version had almost nothing to do with the real story. All the kids were whining about their dad (who never went to war in the books), how they weren't heroes (they stepped up in the book), blah blah blah. And Aslan's importance was diminished so much! If you want true to the book, the BBC version is the one you want. If you want cute kids and modern effects, that's what the Disney one is good for.
Despite the lower budget this was a much better version than the big money yankee cash politically correct Disney "entertainment" version. Their publicity budget was probably bigger than the production budget for the whole BBC bit. However we still hold the moral and artistic high ground, so we shall sleep safe in our beds tonight.
I LOVED that version. I used to watch it as a kid, and it frightened the life out of me.
Why is there the same music as it is in The Lord of the Rings? And I mean, identical.
+matrix1240 You realise that this TV series came out about 15 years before the lotr films?
+Emerald Ibis Relax, folks. I don't know how Alpha & Omega got the rights to use the Fellowship theme. Maybe they didn't. It was just a trailer on an obscure DVD after all.
i was obsessed with this when i was a kid. watched it so many times i knew every word off by heart. the new one is good but to me bbc one will always be the best.
I'm 33 and this came out before I left home, so it was in the mid to late 80's.
now that was definitely my childhood version of the chronicles of narnia because i remember having the video tapes of those movies and would watch those with my encyclopedia brown video tapes and also along with my bibleman videos
I had this on VHS as a kid, I loved it. I still haven't bothered to see the new one because I loved this one so much

I loved this when I was a little kid.
My memory of this is back at Primary School, mid 90's. We were watching it on an, even then, dated wooden-cased TV. The Lions roar scared me! lol
Well said. I loved this as a kid.
Yeah, I def. loved the BBC version of the books. My parents read the books to my brother and I when we were traveling and bought us the movies. I still love them. I have them here at college with me. I only wish that I could upgrade from the VHS's to the DVD's that they've come out with.

The latest Disney version is the absolute best one. It is so true to the original story.
I guess they licensed the LOTR music.
me too. I mean the effects and costumes aren't great but it's the definitive version. the one and only in my eyes.
I wondered that, too. The music from this movie was mostly french horn...
I agree with the previous comment 100%. Disney's attempt at "the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" had lots of cash thrown at it, and as a result was cluttered with CGI and lacked the quaint British charm that surrounds C. S. Lewis's classic novels.
@MrJesusFreak22 Agreed. The LOTR music is beautiful stuff.
Lest you feel like lynching me, I did not make this video. I only uploaded it after ripping it from a DVD because I thought it was odd.
Heh. You just agreed with me in a round-about way. ;) Childhood memories often = nostalgia. Oh, I agree that in some film-to-book adaptations, story elements are missing, but that's not really the point. Yes, I know about the cartoon. In fact, I found this video on a DVD of it. I have two DVD editions of it, and am planning a music video for it.
I really don't want to sound rude, but I loved this as a child, and still do! =)
My cousin gave me her video when I was 5 or 6 & i just loved it! =)
@dononscreen1 It's on a DVD I own. The Alpha Omega DVD of the animated version.
I loved these growing up. And I love the new movies. However, I do prefer the Witch in this version as apposed to Tilda Swinton.
Aha it´s true. That´s why it´s hard to make movies of books.
Take care. =)
I like the Super Trailer for The Lion The Witch Ande The Wardrobe. =)
this was low budget, but my god was this epic when i was a kid.
I'm reading this book at school
@jaredofmo Oh. Well, thanks for clearing that up- much appreciated! :)
My sister comes home from school one day, "we had to watch a weird version of the lion the witch and the wardrobe, and Lucy was FAT"😂😂😂😂
Hey it's not funny about Lucy she is just the way they made her ok
Yeah she,s fat
Someone did upload it. Look around. It may have been removed, though.
agreed.
LMAO. It's like the Captain America movies before The First Avenger.
@LeeCDylan Same here.
What did the LotR music do in the background?
I love that cartoon, in which children from the 40s are dressed in 70s style. Classic.
I realize I'm way behind on the conversations about this, but I gotta put in my two cents. what, no, you're supposed to be surprised
The music is so wrong! AWESOME!
Aha, I got your point.

It's the DVD trailer
This scared me to death as a kid...😬😬😬

This lion looks real.in this narnia.daaaaamn.😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
It was a good film, but i still prefer the disney version lol.. i remember the cartoon version! I watched that when i was really little lol it scared me :P
"You've got the wrong people" "We're not heroes" "Mom told me to keep you safe" "We just want to go home"
The REAL Peter was a MAN at 13!
This is really good! I love the old Narnia!!!
I was laughing so hard when I heard LOTR music. I was like, "Wow, Narnia with LOTR music...That's really weird and yet...cool."

For goodness' sake, people! Read the video description! (I didn't make this! I found it on a DVD, thought it was interesting, and ripped it.)
Come on, you're saying that "Santa Claus Battles The Martians" was better than this?
maxtexture, maybe I /did/ read a different book. I read the real one. Which one did you read, that matches the Disney one so closely?
K thanks. :-)
i love the old version could you upload parts of the old one such as the old battle scene or the stone table one?
@condeguga I was thinking the exact same thing!
When was this movie made
That theme is from the Lord of the Rings.
can i ask why it uses the music from lord of the rings?
Me too Cavic1980 ^_^
Yeah, and the thing is, I don't know if they had permission to use it.
Your right
but I also think its cute=D
Lol, I thought the same thing.
@HeticScorpion its BBC wat do u expect but i enjoyed it as a kid and now im not so keen seen as there is the new movies out
Hey,
I know I just thought I would wirte the ''rude'' thing because some people below have said they don't like it! =)
And i didn't mean any disrespect it was just my opinion! :L xxx
Yeh, I want em for my birthday.! I´m getting 25 soon, hehe.
Send em to me, hihi!
I´m not sure if they are available in Sweden. =(
why has it got lord of the rings music to it?
@RoyalKidofOz Please Re-Upload all of the original Wonders of Oz Videos back on this channel? 1/17/23
Holy crap, was that the music from The Lord of the Rings?
What's with the LOTR music?

Of course LWW that made Disney an Walden Media its better. But that Aslan ( BBC) its so lovely!
Is... that the Lord of The Rings theme?
Yes
hey thats lord of the rings soundtrack
@RoyalKidofOz It's damn close.
And I'm going to disagree with you again. MN is not "better", it is a history. A backstory. He said closet
WTF??? LOTR SOUNDTRACK!!!
C.S.Lewis is the greatest author ever i love all 4 that were relesed Lion Witch and the wardrob orinagial was the best the new version was ok
Why is it using LotR music?

@MrJesusFreak22 It's far too epic for this. I didn't care for the BBC versions. I love the book though.
0:39 -0:40 is kinda creepy
the BBC series are way better than the movie!!! this is more charming!!!
eeeeeeeeeeew YUCH!! Hate the LOTR music. Why couldn't they use the original score for the programme? That music was beautiful.
Are you kidding me?? The new version had almost nothing to do with the real story.
