@@alpaka8437 I think it was multiple factors to be honest. But talking about the tunnel in mexico, and using electronic devices to measure for him, drawing layout on a laptop (might leave digital traces) vs the guy with his tape measure making drawings on a paper notepad.
The French guy talked about a previous illegal job, his mouth was far too big so they didn't trust him. If he told people about that job so easily he would talk about this one too, and if he talks about it so easy imagine how he would deal with the stress of a police interview or something.
Interesting fact about the first scene (set during breaking bad) is that it was shot on film, just like breaking bad. Whereas the rest of better call Saul was shot on digital. Vince Gilligan’s attention to detail is astonishing
Better Call Saul is arguably a more intriguing show than Breaking Bad, though it’s impossible to choose. The show is a slow burn but it’s so worth it with each following season revealing more. The fact that Rhea Seehorn never won an Emmy is a travesty.
The fact that no one on the show won anything, or the fact that even the show itself never won anything either is the biggest travesty ever and makes the Emmys in my eyes (at least the current version of it) meaningless. 53 nominations or so, and not a single win. And I don't think they ever got nominated for cinematography, when this show is probably the best-looking show ever, especially S5 and S6. I don't think I've ever seen a show shot better than Better Call Saul. Lesser shows have won more while doing less (like GOT S8).
I think BrBa is the better paced show a lot more heart pounding tension, but BCS is the better show overall. Better writing, cinematography, directing, etc.
You make a great point that Geraldine’s death affected Jimmy more than Chuck’s death. It probably reminded him of when he had success on the straight path that Chuck never thought he could. I never realized that on my initial watch.
Jimmy doesn't deal directly with his feelings, that is his whole deal, he internally transfered his feelings about Chuck to some old woman he didn't even know personally. The only interaction he had with her was a means to an end for business. The only reason he made things right with her was because of Kim, again just another means to his desired end result.
@@MichaelDPrice Some of us prefer BCS because we don't like how fast and almost unbelievable BB gets, with how much luck plays into walter's story compared to Jimmy who's far more unlucky and tragic. Much more compelling imo
Lithium is a fire hazard. Battery in the cellphones uses it. One in the pocket is still manageable, but have a stockpile of it could decimate several insurance clauses.

25:00 I love how this scene adds to Gus' characterization. Gus is a psychopath. It simply doesn't occur to him that, unlike him, normal people can't just wake up, eat breakfast, prep lunch, work for 14 hours, go home, eat dinner, go to sleep, and do it all over again tomorrow.
I think jimmy focused on the old lady death affecting him is because it's chucks death to him is so mentally taxing and it probably will break him completely wracking with the guilt he has that he's completely disassociated himself from thinking about chuck to a insanely high degree he just can't face it all.
I remember when I started BCS, I thought, "Aw, man, I thought I was getting a Saul Goodman show, I don't want Jimmy." But very quickly, the more I saw of Saul, the worse I felt. Because Saul (and the flash-forwards to Cinnabon) were the afterlife of this poor guy who just wanted to be a good, respected lawyer. I always knew Saul was a tragedy but to see it play out hurt.
We know very little about Gus and his past. But when he does tell stories of his past, it unravels soo much heart within him....and soo much darkness as well
Gus probably found all those engineers through Peter Schuler, his business daddy at Madrigal. The French dude talked too much about a past illegal project, he rushed to take sloppy measurements, probably neglected to consider supporting the weight of the laundry from below, and he had a prior Cartel association. Gus doesn't want the Cartel finding out from their old loose-lipped French digger that he's working on his own production operation, he only let them find out on "Breaking Bad" once he became their sole source of distribution.
The opening flashback in the second episode feels kinda sweet, but it's really another reminder that Jimmy never got into the law for *himself* despite having a talent for it. He did it to get closer with Kim and make Chuck proud/follow in his footsteps, when it's clear that he'd be way more at home in some kind of sales role in terms of becoming an "honest citizen". For as wild and chaotic as Jimmy can be with his tactics, you come to realize that one of his biggest flaws deep down is his inability to let certain things go. He couldn't truly walk away from Chuck after learning the truth, he can't quit the idea of him being a lawyer, etc.
@@Wraiven22 Do you mean to say there are lawyers who use the law for charitable/right reasons? I think there's a term for those: unsuccessful. Kim, like the cake, is a lie.

Kim leaving to the firm was a punch to the gut for Jimmy, I think what he told Howard was more for himself. Like Howard is a reflection of Jimmy's state just that he doesn't show it.
Yeah, her observations on that scene in the phone store are spot-on. It's the same reason why every time you go to a car dealership they tell you someone else has been looking at the car you're thinking about. They want to make you think demand is high so you'll rush to make the purchase.
I think someone broke the episode down and the shredded documents, and said there was a school schedule or something in there. Hinting to how they poisoned brock
And the way Jimmy uses a cross-cut shredder and instructs Francesca to dump the shreds 5+miles from the office in separate dumpsters, he definitely remembers how he nailed Sandpiper to the wall back in the day
I see Howard, all I can hear is "Welcome... to Bellin Health" where he featured in a local healthcare system ad campaign for a few years. I cannot un-hear it.
I also always get an ad for Cascade Platinum Plus that sounds just like him in the voiceover saying “Dare to Dish Differently”, but I can never find evidence to show it is him definitively!
This answers the age old question of how Bond villains can build a rocket launching facility in a hollow volcano without anyone knowing about it. Though I suspect Blofeld had everyone killed when they were done.
I live in Japan and you can’t even ship anything with lithium batteries back to the states. If you watch the documentary series “Air Crash Investigations” large numbers of lithium batteries stored in the cargo holds of planes have caught fire and caused passenger planes to crash.
31:37 coming from a certified firefighter the lithium ion batteries in the phones are “fire hazzards” it only takes one bad battery to catch fire and its one of the hardest fires to stop, you just gotta let it burn out. Thats why when a car battery catches fire you just gotta throw it in a lake. Even that wont stop the fire but it keeps everything else around the car safe.
So i think Gus' story about the animal is not to show how ruthless he is when it comes to business or whatever. Hector is special. Hector killed someone VERY special to Gus. The story is about how Gus never forgets a grudge. All of his other enemies, he has dispatched as efficiently as possible. But with Hector, he will take his time destroying him.

The French guy seemed too confident and he also talked about a cartel job he did. Gus surely knew the guy's history and perhaps he was lying about the cartel tunnel, or more likely Gus knew the guy doesn't know how to keep a secret and didn't want him giving out any hints concerning the lab dig at some point down the road.
What can never be lost about Jimmy is that Chuck was never wrong about him. Jimmy can never be honest, not sure how this show does not make this crystal clear to any viewer. I guess that's why scammers never have trouble finding gullible targets.

Exactly. For Gus, discretion is just as important as competence (if not more so)
He was also overly confident. Gus knew just how hard this job was, and this guy was making claims that he wouldn't be able to deliver on.
