BUT… … with the serious health issues, the four years away from performing, her French-Canadian heritage, the worldwide audience, the flawless arrangement, the ultimate setting and stage, the Eiffel Tower, the burning Olympic flame and the luminous Olympic rings, I think Céline Deon might just have produced the most perfect performance of the most perfect song. It was, after an otherwise rather ugly, anti-religious opening ceremony, as if Heaven had suddenly emerged and answered with love. For those few minutes, and forever after, Céline Deon became an Angel! Beautiful! ❤

Here is my humble opinion: Edith Piaf's version was the kind of rendition of her generation: singing on top of your lungs, with fervor and feelings as was the norm for singers in her era. Celine's voice is celestial, outstanding, and does not fall prey to a distinctive voice of the now or any era. Hers is a gift that could have come directly from the Divine Maker. Every note and every word was on point to give us those goosebumps and tears. It was a magnificent performance worthy of an Olympic medal, and the adulation of all. It will not be a disservice to the memory of Ms. Piaf, if I say that Celine Dion is the greatest singer the world have ever known.

I grew up with Edith Piaf often being played on the record player at home in England and loved all her songs. Fast forward - I have listened over and over and watched Ms. Dion perform at the closing ceremony and have to conclude that it has to be one of the greatest and most moving performances of all time. I am constantly inspired by it, She certainly deserves a gold medal for this - no question.❤
