The problem with DNA wheels, and how to fix it! Don't use fix a flat in Harley custom wheels!

  • This is the second DNA wheel that I have found with this problem! The wheels have a silicone strip glued into the drop zone of the wheel eliminating the need for an innertube. The silicone comes undone, and the wheel develops a leak from the spokes! I had to dig all the silicone out and grind the spokes flat to put an innertube in place. I think there had been fix-a-flat in the wheel. There were green dried up chunks in the wheel. DON'T USE FIX A FLAT IN A DNA WHEEL! excellent video.. finally someone bringing us an honest inside look at these fat spoke tubeless wheels. Glad I came across this before placing my order. I am now ordering the spoke wheels with inner tubes. thanks for sharing.

    Just put DNA large spokes on my winter softail build. Good information. DO NOT USE ANY CANED AIR. Great job.

    Thanks for sharing this, I'm going through this right now with a friends 2014 Harley softail spoked tubeless wheel that I'm fixing, it has turned into a nightmare. All the Harley books show to use a rim seal kit plus valve stem assembly, but all these NY mechanics are saying don't bother with that its better to just tube it!...the rim seal kit does seem to be to risky over time, Thanks again for posting this!

      Glad it helped! The only problem with a tube is that you can't plug it if you get a nail in it, but that's not really safe to do on a bike anyway. I just like to have a plug kit with me and a small pump when I go out of town just in case.

    I will reserve my full comments on DNA 52 Spoke Wheels until I get my front wheel back from them after it was leaking directly upon delivery. Thought they may just ship them low on air so I filled the front to 36lbs and less than 20 miles later, half way through my planned ride it was going flat. This was FLAT out dangerous and a big issue with QC. Pressure check your wheels before shipping them. These are not cheep amazon or eBay knock offs and I would expect more from this company.

      I have seen them bad out of the box before as well. I understand your frustration. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Can the wheel be straitened by the spokes or are they just cosmetic? Thanks.

    • @WrenchesCorner

      If the glue in the middle is already gone, and you are running an innertube, you should be able to adjust the spokes in theory. I have never needed to. Good luck and let me know how it goes.!

      @@WrenchesCorner I just didn’t know if they were real functional spokes or not. Thanks for answering back.

    Do you also straighten rims that are bottomed out

      I don't straighten rims, but I have relaced a lot of wheels. I can replace a rim if need be.

    What inner tube do you recommend?

    • @WrenchesCorner
      @WrenchesCorner  10 месяцев назад

      I only use Drag Specialties innertubes. I have had cheaper ones pop for no apparent reason at a seam.

    Hey man great job, I wanted to know if that’s a 200 wide and what size tube you bought? If not what size tube would you recommend running on a 200 wide?

    • @WrenchesCorner
      @WrenchesCorner  2 года назад

      It wasn't a 200. What is the exact size of your tire? Is it a 16 or 18?? 200/?-? . I can let you know what size of tube to use.

    i just bought a set of DNA 52 spoke. rear tire went flat at 110 mile ride at 75 MPH every spoke and nipple leaks so bad it takes 5 sec to go from 40 psi to 3 psi

      Sorry to hear that. I don't know how they are still in business selling such a poor product.

  • @westside98

    Could they weld the spikes in. Solid. Can that solve the problem

    • @WrenchesCorner
      @WrenchesCorner  2 года назад

      They can't be welded because the nipples need to be able to turn so that way the wheel can be adjusted.

    Any idea on how old the wheels are?

    • @WrenchesCorner

      I'm not sure. They couldn't have been too old.

      His tire never came off the rim. I don't think it was low tire pressure. I think there was fix a flat in there that had eaten the rubber up.

      I know. It doesn't happen too often. So it's not that likely. Don't use fix a flat in there!
