What the Crown has shown me, an American, that in the end Queen Elizabeth was human. A wonderful human with dignity and honor, and she put the British people before anyone else. A true sovereign.❤❤

In the context of the show, Philip is aware that her father is not doing well. Like she tells him in the show "I thought we would have more time" - to enjoy just being married and not the added pressure of her being the Queen. At least that is my impression of why he looks sad.
