Jake in a Live Oak climbed from a roof, and Randy in a Coconut Palm on a 30 foot ladder with a handsaw... the exact OPPOSITE ends of the Arboreal Spectrum.
    I'm Luvin' It! 🧡🧡

Randy with his ladder at 13:13 & 17:40 "not my jam", LOL! When I lived in SoCal I climbed my 30' extension ladder to trim the king palms next to my pool. Did not use a ratchet strap, reached around to prune fronds & seed pods, ladder went diagonal on me. Eventually dropped the ladder, hugged the trunk and slid down. My bare thighs were rubbed raw. Lesson learned, now I will always strap the ladder... or even better hire Randy.

I LOVE climbing on 32 foot aluminum ladders!!!! Love the bounce, the shakiness, the feeling it will flip over and let you drop....good times! Standing them up is a treat too!!! ugh. Randy needs a trash can to aim the coconuts into!!! Great video!

I had to use a 19' ladder for a small tree. A snow storm broke out half of the top. I only had a small bungee to secure the ladder. I'll have to try using a ratchet strap next time.

    Little trivia for the brain.
Live oaks are sought after for the curved limbs for wooden ships, and such .
They make excellent beams for the bows, as well as the ribs of the ships, and yachts that are made the old fashioned way.
There use to be a older gentleman from Georgia that has a homemade huge bandsaw that specializes in live oaks.
Cutting up the curved limbs due to the shear size of his saw.
I'm sure if you did a search on RUclips for the homemade Georgia band mill cutting live oak, you'll be able to locate him easily enough as there has been several videos made about him and his band mill

Glad to see Randy do palms. I live in southern Arizona and trimmed my palm trees for 15 years. Started out with ladders, but they grew fast ~1+ ft/yr. Finally had to invest in boots, spurs, harness, saws (fronds cut like butter while green), etc. Had lineman lab course in college, so that came in handy. Palms are messy. Once you remove the frond matrix from the trunk via ladder, then they can be spur climbed. But the bugs, wasps, bees, ants, and spiders in the frond matrix is something else!! 🤯 Dunno what's easier, trimming lots of coconuts or thousands of little dates... Thanks for sharing your trip! 😊

Except in Surfside beach you have to get permitted to cut them and cannot take anything over 8 inches unless pre approved for certain parts to be removed! BIG BIG fine but we prolly done 4 live oaks the same same size as the one you we’re in! Pines, Oaks, Gums & Cedars! Some Cypress but not much! Love the vibe you guys have together. I think randy needs to become a permanent part of these episodes/videos! Memories made day by day that want ever be forgotten! Promise you that! Hope to see you in NC, at Arborfest! 🙏🏼💪🏼💯

I just fixed up an old lawnmower that used to belong to one of my neighbors who died, I ended up rage quitting around the middle of the night because I had school the next day, turns out the only problem was the fact that the carburetor was full of water. From the Northeast, but several years ago we rented a place near Ocala, FL. There was a tremendous live oak on the property that didn't look that large in a photo, until you realize the tiny red dot at the base was my wife! 🤤 The landlord said that the National Park Service would stop by occasionally to take measurements for an annual "Oldest Tree In The US" survey. It never won, but the arborists estimated it's age to be over 500 years old! Can you imagine the hurricanes, tropical storms and lightning that thing has seen?
Side note: live oak was the wood of choice for the masts of old sailing ships.
