I spent a good portion of this afternoon going through this and I have to say, thanks to your video, I am definitely getting less intimidated by Fusion 360. :)
THANKS DOUG! I have been looking for a designing solution for my Mac for a long time and at 5:15 in this video, paused and went to get Fusion 360 (Personal). SO EXCITED! I haven't been in my shop for a bit and want to ramp back up. I was an AutoCad (2D) user for many years and while this will be a lot different, I'm ready for learning new stuff. I'll probably walk through this 4 part series to get my feet all sorts of wet. Thanks again - this free/powerful CAD find and your channel were gifts!
Thank you for jumping into parameters so quickly in the process! I've heard so much about "parametric modeling" capabilities with Fusion, but thought they were limited to one variable per dimension at a time. Showing the way formulas work into the mix has me much more excited about leaving Sketchup and going to Fusion, and de-mystified a lot about how to use Fusion to model joinery as well!
Loved this video. Had to be the most informative video I've see around F360 and woodworking. Your video was great in showing me how to create several cuts as a woodworker. New to any CAD or any automated software, but I love Fusion 360, although I have a bit of a learning curve. I'm a wood hobbyist and have been old school for my entire life mostly hope chests, beds, tables. These days I've interested in purchasing a CNC to produce smaller products for gifts. Really enjoyed this - although the 15 minute video turned into 90 minutes of me playing and learning navigation. Well worth the time. Thanks
Class act man! Great job! Took me 2 weeks of frustration to learn Sketchup. Dropped the program after I learned it, "good enough" and feel in love with the features and capabilities of Fusion. Just started 2 days ago and the frustration was the same as starting sketches. This video saved me! Keep it up!
Man how did I not know about this series earlier? I've been dragging my feet on diving into fusion because it seems complicated - I don't think it looks any less complicated now, but it's certainly less intimidating. Thanks Doug, on to part 2!
I am fairly new to F360 and CAD in general. I have been going through a beginners course to get the basic functions down and felt like I’m getting a decent grasp on it and then enter you showing the ability to add user parameters and my mind was blown! Love that you can do it that way. That is a game changer for sure. Thank you for these videos!
I just stumbled across these videos and they were exactly what I was looking for. Nice and simple with just enough detail to learn new tricks, without taking hours to watch. Excellent job!
Although this video is pretty old, I really appreciate you for modeling with parameters. Alot of Fusion Tutorials reinforce bad habits of sloppy models that brake the instance you want to change something but this is excellent!
Hey Doug, It's me again. I have been showing what you taught in a facebook group for woodworkers. SO MANY INTERESTED IN LEARNING! I have been throwing out the link to this series like confetti. I think your view count is about to escalate. Thank you again for posting such a good quality teaching video! YOU ROCK!
Thanks so much Matthew! I was very surprised the other day to switch over to my community tab on Facebook and see your render in one of the groups I’m in! Thanks for your excitement and for spreading the word!
This is great Doug. I never thought I’d be able to navigate a program like this - but now feel like your tutorial has demystified it quite a bit. Many thanks!
Thank you very much for your tutorial. I am not a woodworker but trying to learn Fusion. I did learn a lot of new information about the commands and features that I am using regularly. Thanks again.
I've fried my brain trying to learn Fusion 360. You have done a good job on your tutorial. I can see little light bulbs going on everywhere! Even though the software itself has changed a bit since your post, I think I'm gonna actually be able to learn this! Thank you.
So glad you’re doing this series! Love how you explain things and it’s great going trough this program as you do a simple Woodworking type model. Makes it easier to under the tools and process than just learning about what the tools do abstractly.
DN Handcrafted it does! I was pretty proficient with sketchup and I think that’s made fusion a little harder for me. I’ve realized it takes a dynamic approach to model efficiently.. doing a lot of jumping between additive and subtractive methods.
You created an amazing video to qick-explain how this works! Fantastic for every new user who has already basic knowledge about CAD and wants to understand the design philosophie.
Just discovered Fusion 360 today. I had been using SketchUp. You are the best teacher I've found today! Consider me subscribed as soon as I hit enter for this comment!
Thank you! I hope you give it a shot. When I first started to use it I really fought with the concept of constraints and linked steps, probably because I was coming from a Sketchup background. But once I got over that hump I’m really enjoying what I can do with Fusion. Good luck!
I just want to thank you for your woodwork arranges [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking. Com* I have attempted a few different arrangements and most times I get lost on what to do. This is the least demanding and most basic arranges ever.?
I've been using Fusion since 2017, but there were still things in this video that I hadn't realised, such as expanding the list of objects that will be cut in a combine. Thanks.
Just found your channel through the black hole that is the suggested videos section. I've been using fusion for a while now for 3D printing, but I just learned a bunch of different ways to go about modeling. So thanks! #NewSubscriber
Love this approach to teaching, thank you for your hard work and the videos you produce. Its years later, of course, and some of the options have changed a bit. Could you update this video for these changes as your content is the best on RUclips for learning things like this. Example: I can't for the life of me find the DIMENSION adjustment seen just before the 6:00 mark.
Awesome video tutorial. I still have a lot of trouble with s-up and Fusion 360 seems like it’s easier with the tools alone. Looking forward to seeing your next video.
That's some cool and informative stuff Doug. I'm not good at sketch up or any of the tech stuff so this could be beneficial for someone like me that is NOT TECH SAVVY AT ALL..LOL THANKS FOR SHARING.AND that box looks AWESOME
YEEEEZZZ that is good. Have been following Lars and love his vids to, but this.... Directly related to woodworking,,,, it has given me new hope for Fusion :) :) You sir is my new youtube Hero, thumbs up. Best Tr. Norway
Ha! Thank you! It took me a lot of attempts to finally feel like I could mode something in Fusion. Hope you can get there because it is really quite amazing what it can do.
Thanks for this video its helped me so much, I trying to model up a feeding station for dogs, and have been pulling my hair out trying go get the walls to adjust on one side only if I change the wall thickness in the parameters. I need the inside area to be constant no matter how thick the walls are but when I change them from 12 mm to 18mm, they get thicker on both sides, making the inside area smaller, can you tell me how to add thickness to the walls to only the outside of the wall. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again for a great video.
Hi Doug watched all your videos. on you pencil box. I'm having all kinds of trouble cutting in bottoms and top on your project. i noticed you're using an older version of Fusion and for some reason i cant get the newer version to work. I think i got the newest version. I'm just using it to see if i like it. your methods are awesome and i was hoping if you knew if the newer addition can do what you're doing and if so id appreciate how to do your technics cause they are awesome. Hope to hear back from ya. Thanks
Hey Dan, i have been trying to follow you step by step but for some reason after making the left wall and saving a component 1, I select the sketch, however it comes up blue and when I select the modify tab the sketch goes away. maybe i don't have something set right. I am at a loss. Not sure if you can help but let me know what I can try. I found your channel from Caleb at YouCanMakeThisToo
At the bottom of your screen, click the icon that looks like a monitor, the select Object Visibility, and then make sure Sketches is checked. Almost positive that is what is wrong. Let me know if that fixes it!!
Can I add a new sketch in a file that would behave with separate parameters like two different sized cabinets in the same drawing? Very helpful series.
If you start with another sketch and draw it again with different parameter names, you can have two in a single file. But if you wanted to see two different versions side by side where the only thing changed were parameters, I don’t think that’s possible.
Hi, thanks for your hard work and effort in creating these video's! I'm not sure if this is due to changes in fusion but when i go to the parameters dialogue box i don't have a 3rth parameter for my sketch were you apply "thickness"... I only have 2, for the length and for the width... So i can not link this to the user parameter you/me created : Thickness. Maybe someone knows why? Thanks!!
Thank you! I’m shooting for a weekly release of the remaining three videos, but not sure if that will happen or not. I do this on the side after family and work stuff.
Hey Scott! Each constraint has a little icon associated with it. While editing the sketch, compare the icons you see with the paused video. If you see extra icons or any numbers showing already, delete them. It’s possible extra constraints were added automatically while you were following the steps depending on several things. Let me know if you are still stuck!! Good luck!
Great video!!! However, I am still trying to deal with the base disappearing after the first push-pull of the wall. I can't get past this point. After I add the height of the extruded wall, the base disappears. I then go to the left side of the screen and find the sketch section has one sketch called "sketch1". When I click non sketch1, the base reappears but is all "blued out". When I click on the blued out base it disappears again. Any hints on what I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.
Ok, so I think I might know what the problem is. If you click on the monitor icon in the bottom of the screen, and check the Object Visibility menu - are Sketches unchecked? If not sketches, see if any of the other options are unchecked. The only other idea that comes to mind is the possibility that the lightbulb next to sketches itself is off, even if the lightbulb next to your target sketch is turned on (I've done that before!) Let me know if either of these suggestions works for you! I'm sorry I didn't check several days ago like I said I would.
Hey Curtis! No, I’m not going to be there. Sad because it looks like an amazing conference and meetup. Maybe next year. If you are going I’m sure you’ll have a blast.
Great video now I need quick advise We are using a Mac and SketchUp creating dxf files and manually exporting and assigning tools to the file to be. Cut on a Biesse Robert B CNC We are trying to make this process more strait forward. This software generated the gcode ? Thanks

Great video Doug. Please keep them coming. Any recommendations on a wireless three button mouse with a scroll wheel for Fusion 360 on the Mac that isn’t going to break the bank? Thanks
Thanks Mark! I use a Logitech M510, it’s only $19.99~ on Amazon. Honestly I use my touchpad the most, because I’m not often sitting at my desk when modeling in Fusion. One feature is to press on the scroll wheel to pan, and that didn’t work so well with the Logitech. Sorry I don’t have a better recommendation for you!
Thanks Jeff! I’m sad to say I add the keyboard usage manually in post 😭 I’ve used keycasting software before, but for this series I added it after the fact. Thankfully the workflow didn’t have a ton of special keystrokes.
So far so good, Loving the video!! I am, however stuck at about the 7 minuet mark. I cannot click on the expression value to edit to my new parameters. Any thoughts?
I didn`t intend to use this woodworking book, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* but instead curious about it. I had been truly amazed after trying it. It never dissatisfied me in my desire to have more information about the art of wood working. I discovered several topics such as wood types as well as designing your workshop..
I use Fusion 360 on a Mac, and I am using the startup/enthusiast free license. Im not sure exactly how the different licenses impact the UI. It is version 2.0.3803.
Not sure if it is that you are using a Mac or what but Fusion in 2021 looks just different enough to not match what you are saying. Many of the functions you are using are found in the pop up/ dropdown menus after selecting a item. Not at the top.
Hey Darren! That’s too bad. This is a series for woodworkers using Fusion - if it was for machinists or engineers I could understand using metric regardless of location in the world. But as a woodworker in the US, many of our tools have Inch measurements, our measuring tapes are the same, etc. I’d have to go out of my way to use metric (plus it’s what I grew up with and am most familiar with). The principles I use in the video apply regardless of the system you use. Hope that explains my choice some!
Dude, I know this is old - but hope you see this. Awesome tutorial. Thank you!
Great Video Doug! You are a natural born teacher - please continue posting woodworking and Fusion 360 How-To Videos!
I spent a good portion of this afternoon going through this and I have to say, thanks to your video, I am definitely getting less intimidated by Fusion 360. :)
I've used Fusion360 for years and never realized half of what you just shared. Incredible work.

Excellent video. Fast moving and shows a lot on new (to me) techniques. Not for a beginner, though.
Awesome walk through keeping the steps super simple for the beginner. Love it.
Thank you. Very helpful and well explained. Well done
Hey Doug, It's me again.
I have been showing what you taught in a facebook group for woodworkers.
SO MANY INTERESTED IN LEARNING!
I have been throwing out the link to this series like confetti. I think your view count is about to escalate.

wow this is great I have been try to figure out how to use fusion for a while with out much sucsess. This make it so much easier
Awesome video Doug. Very impressed. I wish I had discovered this video and yourself sooner.
Thank you Julian!
Excellent. Great tutorial. Thank you cannot wait to try this.
This is great Doug. I never thought I’d be able to navigate a program like this - but now feel like your tutorial has demystified it quite a bit. Many thanks!
Thanks John! You should give it a shot, you’ll love it. Plus it can do 3D CNC and I think printing too.
Great intro to F360, I'll have to give it a shot now!
Thanks Nick!
Great Video Doug! I didn't know you good move components inside there own group of components. Can't wait to see the rest of this series!
Thanks Scott! I could see that helping with your crib model for sure.
Thank you very much for your tutorial. I am not a woodworker but trying to learn Fusion. I did learn a lot of new information about the commands and features that I am using regularly.
Thanks again.
ohh double plus good :) end google sketch ... begin fusion.. Thank you I LOVE THE PACE of this tutorial !!
Thank you for the tour of Fusion 360 using this demo. I now have a clear understanding of the capabilities and user friendliness.
Thanks for watching Scott! It’s a fun piece of software (and frustrating at times when learning, haha!)
I really like fusion, but I had a bunch of questions that I was having a hard time answering, and you hit most of them! thanks so much
Fantastic! I’m so glad to hear that! Feel free to ping me with any other questions.
DN Handcrafted for the most part they should be covered by the next videos.
Nicely explained :) Thank you :)
Thanks, and you are welcome :)

Thanks for watching Shawn! Glad you are looking forward to the other parts. It’s such a rewarding program to learn.
Just discovered Fusion 360 today. I had been using SketchUp.
You are the best teacher I've found today! Consider me subscribed as soon as I hit enter for this comment!
A+ No wonder the boxes are absolutely flawless in both design and in finished product.
Thanks John! I’m so glad you liked the video!
Great video! I’ve been using Sketchup for years but this series might finally help me jump into Fusion.

Great video thanks so much for sharing. Very easy to listen to, great work.
Great video Doug, Very well explained!
Thanks Preston!
Very good step by step video. Thanks
You explain this so well, Doug! I’ll definitely be referencing it again in the future!
Thanks Bruce! Once you work with it you’ll probably get hooked!
I just want to thank you for your woodwork arranges [Link Here== *TopFineWoodworking. Com* I have attempted a few different arrangements and most times I get lost on what to do. This is the least demanding and most basic arranges ever.?
Great stuff, Doug. Really well explained. Thanks. I’m already looking forward to part 2. Dan
Thanks Dan! I’ve been refining the flow in preparation for part 2!
Very nice video, very helpful in figuring out how to use Fusion 360 for woodworking. Thanks!
Thanks Jim! Glad it was useful!
Loved it Doug - can't wait for more! Been bouncing between sketchup and fusion - this helped a ton!
Awesome! I’m so glad it helped! I already started practicing tonight for part 2, hoping to have it out next week.
sweet, can't wait!
What Nick said :) thanks
Awesome! Thank you so much for this series!
You are welcome!
Love the videos! Would be great if they were updated to current fusion 360.
Very nice job, Doug. I think you were perfect in how you presented the info. Made me want to go play with Fusion 360 some more.
Thanks for the encouragement Darin! I hope you give it a shot.
I agree...I’ve never even opened the program and it makes me want to dive in!
Great tutorial! Very well explained!
Thank you Steve!
Super awesome video! Hadn't heard of this platform before, definitely going to give it a try! Really good tutorial to start the series to boot!
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it and learned about Fusion from the video. Hope you get a chance to try it out!
Great video! Thanks
Thanks Matthew!
Great video. Not so slow it bores those with minimal experience, not so fast people will get lost.
Thanks Richard! I really wanted it to move at a quick pace but not breakneck.
This was absolutely fantastic!
Thanks Michael! I appreciate it!
I've been using Fusion since 2017, but there were still things in this video that I hadn't realised, such as expanding the list of objects that will be cut in a combine. Thanks.

Thank you Thom! I hope you give it a shot. SketchUp is great too, but some of the features in Fusion are really awesome.
Would be great if you made more videos like these.
Awesome tutorial
Thank you!

Hi there...do you plan to be at Workbenchcon this week in Atlanta?
Hey Curtis! No, I’m not going to be there. Sad because it looks like an amazing conference and meetup. Maybe next year. If you are going I’m sure you’ll have a blast.
DN Handcrafted ah man...all good...we’ll be there hanging out showing Fusion. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions
Great video now I need quick advise
We are using a Mac and SketchUp creating dxf files and manually exporting and assigning tools to the file to be.
Cut on a Biesse Robert B CNC
We are trying to make this process more strait forward.

Thanks Jeff! I’m sad to say I add the keyboard usage manually in post 😭 I’ve used keycasting software before, but for this series I added it after the fact. Thankfully the workflow didn’t have a ton of special keystrokes.
Good video, thanks! :)
So far so good, Loving the video!! I am, however stuck at about the 7 minuet mark. I cannot click on the expression value to edit to my new parameters. Any thoughts?
Nevermind, I figured it out

Gj. Nice videoes. The dustylife sent me. Subbed
Thanks! That was super nice of Sean to mention the video!
What version of fusion 360 is this. Its different than the one I use
I’m sorry it’s changed so much. Hopefully most of the principles still apply though :(
@@DNHandcrafted fast reply on old vid. All good I consider it a challenge and so far I like the way you present the guide.
I'm here because it was mentioned on "We Built a Thing" and I'd like to get a better handle on fusion.
Awesome! Thanks for stopping by. Those guys are great! We all need more unnecessary walnut in our lives :)
Great video but way too fast, slow down for us newbies!!
Started off strong then you changed units from mm to inches 😭😆
Such is the life of a woodworker in the States :)
You lost me at inches.
