@@aidenmortensen3666 Elon Musk is a multi-billionaire that made his money by creating several tech based companies, such as Space X (rockets) and Tesla (electric cars). At the start, he seemed a very cool guy with an insane work ethic (check out Boyinaband's video on him for this), but recently he's more known for making stupid memes on twitter (such as the branded Flamethrowers mentioned in the song) and kind of just...not caring. He was/is a big inspiration to a lot of people, but he's showing his true colours of being just as greedy and self-obsessed as other billionaires, all the while perpetuating the idea that the technology and Computer Science industries are for everyone (even though Musk himself came from a family that literally owned emerald mines in Africa). So this song is about how Penelope Scott believed in Musk and wanted to be like him, but slowly realised that he is just as corrupt as everyone else - and if he wants to go to the stars it isn't to push humanity forward, but to 'colonise' them, take all the resources and just make himself richer. Never thought of it that way, I always thought of it like a “high-functioning breakdown”, like she’s having a breakdown perpetually as she’s burning out and continuing to work even though she’s already burnt out (this is me lately so I’m probably projecting my own life onto it, but that’s what music is for right?). I do feel like all of that is hidden behind the distorted rebellious music, with lots of twists and turns, sort of showing everyone that somethings wrong as a way of pretending that she’s fine, if that makes sense(probably not but whatever) But I really like that way of thinking about it tho, I’ll listen to it that way next time!

The kinda loose genre I fit her and other artists like her into is just "broken rock", much much more modern takes on rock, hip-hop, techno and other genres, mixing instruments and normal sounds, plus layer vocals often times in order to convey pure, utter fury at the world, the way it is and that *nothing* is being done about it, that we aren't rioting in the streets over the evils being done to us with nothing to stop them, other than the government that they already buy and pay for.

Hello, I will be the weird one and suggest Cosmo Sheldrake, as a nice break (kinda) Specifically: -Come Along -Birthday Suit -The Moss -The Fly -Tardigrade song
*PARAMORE!!!!* ~ Misery Business ~ Ignorance ~ Ain't It Fun ~ Hard Times and if you want some extra songs that I think are incredible; ~ Last Hope ~ Let The Flames Begin // Part II ~ Turn It Off ~ All I Wanted ~ Rose-Colored Boy ~ When It Rains ~ Playing God
You may really like "Of Monsters and Men", they're a bit more peaceful/less sad than a lot of the more recent artists (not that that's necessarily a bad thing, I just imagine a break might be nice). They're also from Iceland which gives them a super unique sound. Some of my favorite songs are: -King and Lionheart -Little Talks (this one is a sad story but a bop) -Mountain Sound -Crystals -Black Water -Empire -Stuck in Gravity (also a bit sad but so peaceful)

I love Penelope Scott! I'm so glad you reacted to her! You picked some of my favorite songs from her. You mentioned a few times you felt uncomfortable or "out of your wheelhouse", and that's what I really like about her. She isn't afraid to address those issues directly, which always makes me think, "why isn't anyone else doing a song about this *like this*?" She channels her frustration with the world into raw, energetic, angry songs, and it's so refreshing to listen to (in my opinion). It's always so fun watching you and I love hearing your thoughts.

I really recommend Trying To Stan Fiona Apple, her lyrics can be so witty and she’s been so underrated for so long. “Not About Love” “Criminal” “Every single night” “Paper bag” are some great ones!
Orla Gartland- Pretending, Overthinking, Inevitable, More Like You, Did it to Myself, Heavy The Altogether- Sophie, See the Day, History Read, Newton's First, Billy & Anne The Longest Johns- Got No Beard, Ashes, Bones in the Ocean, Hoist Up the Thing, Retirement Song
I just recommended her in another video! I would love to see his take on More Like You , Pretending, Did it to Myself! I also want him to listen to Between my Teeth though!
I cannot believe Bill has not done Mitski yet. Class of 2013, Nobody, Me and My Husband, and Strawberry Blonde are for sure songs I would recommend giving a listen to !
theres a line in ciggarette aheago that really hits me. "I don't smoke, i just like how it smells." it really reminds me of checking yourself before you reach something "too self destructive", when in reality you're still doing self destructive behaviours but not realising how bad it is because you can just say "oh i haven't done (insert thing here) yet so im fine" for the pov character of the song, it was hanging around smokers (presumably secondhand smoking too) but not actually smoking herself because that would mean admitting they're too far gone.
God, Penelope is my main comfort artist, and seeing a different perspective sort of changed how I viewed the songs you listened to. I’ve always seen a lot of my own thoughts in Sweet Hibiscus Tea and American Healthcare and so on so it was cool to hear what you thought of these songs on the first listen. I think it could be cool for you to do The Oh Hellos though! I’ve seen a few people recommend them. Love the video, can’t wait to see more from you Bill :)
A detail I really like about American Healthcare is how at the start of the song the line is "I just want them to feel good while they're alive" to "I just want them to feel *okay* while they're alive", because the American healthcare industry is such a shithole that even the idea of them feeling *okay* before they die is virtually a fantasy

bruh i love Penelope Scott i found her on tik tok when she first started writing sweet hibiscus tea and only had like 2000 followers, and i remember her always asking us (her followers) what we thought and actually taking it into consideration for the final product, she actually cares about what her fans think and i just think shes amazing.
AHHHH YES I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE Seriousy, Penelope Scott has such amazing messages in just about all of her songs. I love the way you interpret them too!!
I'd highly recommend the Mechanisms, but you have to listen to their songs in order, because they tell a story, each album specifically. But there are recurring characters (the narrators). Oh yeah, and they're a band of space pirates. Anyway, as I said I'd highly recommend them.
Love the style of reviews it feels so much more real and honest not just saying what every one on Twitter or other reviews are saying just your raw honest first impression of the artist please do more I recommend checking out rare Americans next they do really well made songs with good animation to them that have a story to them and a good morel message

You may really like "Of Monsters and Men", they're a bit more peaceful/less sad than a lot of the more recent artists (not that that's necessarily a bad thing, I just imagine a break might be nice). They're also from Iceland which gives them a super unique sound. Some of my favorite songs are:
-King and Lionheart
-Little Talks (this one is a sad story but a bop)
-Mountain Sound
-Crystals
-Black Water
-Empire
-Stuck in Gravity (also a bit sad but so peaceful)
Dirty paws!!!!
trying to stan ‘crywank’ would be cool, some songs are:
-it’s ok i wouldn’t remember me either
- gb eating gb whilst listening to gb
-i am a familiar creek in your floorboards. -memento mori
-privately owned spiral galaxy
-welcome to castle irwell
I love Crywank but some of the lyrics are probably not very RUclips friendly
YES. YES. YES. also leech boy-
i love crywank sm and seeing him react would be amazing. although hes listened to alot of sad songs recently, so i feel bad recommending more sad stuff.
I will cry but yeah! :)
i love seeing people’s first reactions to crywank, that would be incredible. he already has such fantastic commentary and lyric analysis when it comes to these videos, he would have a field day with all of those amazing, hard-hitting lines
may i add it was a swift not a swallow
maybe I’m just a theatre kid but I really want to see you react to some musicals skchsjhd
Yess, I feel like Bill would enjoy the stories and the musical technicalities!

(Btw this series is really really good and its honestly really helped me with understanding emotions. Thank you so much for doing it)
Apocalypse is a great one to add to that list you got!
Lemons has a full song!!
She is so amazing and intelligent I swear. I watched her genius interview and she had such articulate thoughts and she's wonderful.
fun fact ~ penelope named the song ‘rät’ after a meme from around 2014 that said that elon musk was short for elongated muskrat
Another song of Scott is "Feel Better" which hits home for me.

I noticed that you really like songs with a deeper meaning. So I really recommend Sleeping At Last and their album Atlas: Enneagram.
One, Two, Four, Eight and Nine are really good from that album.
You jumping up and down to American Healthcare was so validating like haha i do that
YESSS PENELOPE ❤️😭
Also ! If you liked her I think you should try and stan Chloe Moriondo ! She like a lot like Penelope and Cavetown and she is just amazing with pitch perfect vocals
Chloe Moriondo songs/covers to look at
La ve en rose - cover
Boys will be bugs (with cavetown)
Creep - cover
Kindergarten crush - original
Ghost adventure spirit orb - original
Bug bear- original
Girl on tv- original
I'm so glad you're reacting to her! I discovered her in the last autumn and she's truly phenomenal; she really helped us get through 2020 haha. I only hope she becomes more famous and that she keeps on creating such lovely songs!
Thanks for the excuse to listen to more of her music! Penelope Scott’s great.
Also could you do trying to stan Set It Off?

Orla Gartland- Pretending, Overthinking, Inevitable, More Like You, Did it to Myself, Heavy
The Altogether- Sophie, See the Day, History Read, Newton's First, Billy & Anne
The Longest Johns- Got No Beard, Ashes, Bones in the Ocean, Hoist Up the Thing, Retirement Song
ORLA YES
I just recommended her in another video! I would love to see his take on More Like You , Pretending, Did it to Myself! I also want him to listen to Between my Teeth though!
I cannot believe Bill has not done Mitski yet. Class of 2013, Nobody, Me and My Husband, and Strawberry Blonde are for sure songs I would recommend giving a listen to !
uhhh.... i can believe Bill has done Mitski... :P
ruclips.net/video/pRLPGOPTIGg/видео.html
penelope scott is my FAVORITE!!!! i’ve listened to her music 5/6 months and i LOVE it!!!!!!
theres a line in ciggarette aheago that really hits me.

I'd highly recommend the Mechanisms, but you have to listen to their songs in order, because they tell a story, each album specifically.
But there are recurring characters (the narrators).
Oh yeah, and they're a band of space pirates.
Anyway, as I said I'd highly recommend them.
Oh the mechanisms would be amazing I am rooting for this one 👈👈
