I am a father of 3 girls, and the grandfather of 6. However, this song makes me think of my own father who passed 8yrs ago now, and the sacrifices he made as a factory worker for over 30yrs in Ohio to feed and clothe his family. No matter how I were to try, his shoes are still impossible to fill. I miss you, dad.
I tip my hat to your father..Thats the definition of a real man.You should be proud of him as I can see you are.It was a pleasure reading this comment.
Going through a divorce these days. Wasn't always the best husband. Always struggled with balancing being a husband and father and a paycheck. My seventeen-year-old daughter sent me this song a few days ago and it's the first time she's ever spoken to me through music and I didn't feel like nearly as much as a failure as I have recently. This song made me regain a little bit of pride that at least one of the kids recognized what I have always tried to do as a father. I don't stay under the same roof as my children any longer and my boys are growing up but following in my footsteps as a good strong man establishing careers that will allow them to provide and protect for those that they love.. to have my little girl send me this and asked me if I'd like to take her to Charleston to see him this spring brought a tear to my eye and I've been listening to his catalog ever since. With my oldest son in the Navy and hearing this guy's background he has a new fan for life.. Beautiful lyrics, thank you Zach!!
I’ll never stop supporting our military if it wasn’t for you boys I wouldn’t have the life I do thank every single veteran and active soldier you are the reason this country stands
I am a father of three beautiful daughters and this song touches my heart. You are truly talented. I want to say thank you for putting words to the feeling all fathers have.
I was so angry when he removed the video the first time but I love it so much more. Zach from the bottem of my heart I love you and your music, I am away from home right now I will be for another 7 months when I do get back I'll get to see my dad for the first time in about a year and whenever I hear this song all i can think of is how much he gave for me and all we have been through together. I would do anything for that man because I know he would do the same for me because he has and still does and I really really do think "they don't make em you anymore" but if they do they are few and far between. So to all of our "old men" a big thank you from all of us for all you gave we really appreciate it and even though it might not show none of us would be where we are to day with you.
This man, wow I’ve never heard someone write such meaningful songs back to back. You can tell it’s not about fame he just writes to write, and plays to play.
growing up, i’ve always been a pretty big task to deal with. when i was 1, i got diagnosed with cancer. my cancer was called langerhans cell histiocytosis, it was the second kid in the US that year to have it which shows how rare & unexpected this was. my father always got me to the hospitals i needed to go & i got the treatment i needed & was cancer free after 3 years. my mom was always drug addicted & i had legal troubles for years of my life because of this. i could never thank my dad for his support & love he’s given me, i’ve gotten into guitar the past month & my biggest dream is to play this song for him whenever i graduate.
Lost my dad in January of 2019. This song reminds me of the callouses on his hands from the hard work he did working for Motorcoach for 17 years. He’d leave at 4am every morning and get home at 7pm. He was abusive and an alcoholic. He dealt with demons from his dad, and never did overcome them until close to the end of his life. I didn’t see him for 13 years. I met him again when I was 24 years old and he apologized for everything. I watched him give his life to God 2 weeks before he died. His life and legacy will always live on, and his redemption will never be forgotten by our family. Every time I listen to this song, it makes me break into tears. Thank you Zach!

I’ve been listening to this song for over a year now after discovering you. I had a rough relationship with my father but I always viewed him as my hero and always respected him for his efforts to be a good father. I sent him this song once earlier in the year and he cried.. bawled his eyes out. In the 25 years I’ve been alive I’ve never once seen my father cry. Not for any reason no matter the mental or physical pain. Today I got news that he overdosed and attempted to kill himself… he’s in critical condition rn and I felt absolutely hopeless until I listened to this song again and it warmed my heart. It’s the only thing keeping me calm rn. Thank you, for healing my heart in a time like this. And if anyone is reading this, I’m very antisocial and I lost the family orientation I had growing up. I feel like I’m all alone on this.. so please, Pray for my father. I don’t want to lose him… not yet. 😔💔

Cale Judy my thoughts exactly. He’s one of thousands. He’s certainly good, but so are thousands of other singer songwriters you will never hear from or about unless you look for them. Myself included. Happily unknown here in Kentucky
Cale Judy he’s similar in only some ways. he’s truly himself in many ways. the raw, rough around the edge voice sailor is gonna be around for a while, can’t wait to see his future.
I just want to say thank you for this song, my father and I have never really had a good relationship but lately I've been wanting to have that conversation to thank him for everything he has done. We grew up not being affectionate, there was no I love you there was no hugs, it was tough love but still love none the less. This song has given me the courage to finally have that talk because even though my family wasn't perfect, my father always made sure we had a roof over our heads and food on the table.
My dad always loved playing the harmonica. In the cedar chest he left me he left me a bag of his. He had saved every ltitle thing i had ever made him. I miss him every day. He passed away right before my 16th bday. Also my middle name is DeAnn ive never ever met another person with the same name or spelled at all the same. Love it
Never had to much of a father figure growing up. But i have three babies of my own now and this song is what i hope my kids feel when i leave this earth. I would give my last breath for them.
Thank you for helping me cry. Anytime I need a good cry I come here to this song and someday on my mind to help me release what I need to. I appreciate you brother. Saw you on a billboard the other day and was so freaking happy for you dude! That's amazing! Let's get you that Grammy.
My dad is still here with me and I couldn't be happier and more grateful of having him in my life still. He's strong like an ox, funny like a comedian, and kind like only a father can be. God bless parents that do their absolute hardest to raise us and fill their shoes. I hope to one day be able to do that and pay him back for everything he gave me and still gives. He's my best friend and my superhero. Love you, dad.
My dad worked himself to death as a coal miner on evening shift 6 and 7 days a week in the 70’s 80’s and early 90’s. He died at 49. He missed every single dinner for us. They don’t make em like him anymore. Moved to tears man thank you for that.
Not trying to be mean but your dad may have not liked being around... as a father of 2 and been there done that working 6 or 7 days a week 12 hour shifts, me personally dont find a piece of paper more important than the time I have with my family and kids.. family is all we have and if we spend all our time working when our kids grow up they arent going to have anytime for us if we never make time for them... you'll die lonely with a bunch of junk laying around you cause the stuff wont be worth much by the time you die..
This guy is so talented. I love his voice, guitar playing, and the words to his songs. I believe we all can relate to some of his songs. Keep singing Zach!!!! ❤
Literally heard something in the Orange and came to check this guy out ! Lovin his voice , the instrument playing and the fact that I read he’s a service member , Thank You ! For everything , ❤
Just how many great songs can he crank out?! I'm blown away by how prolific he is. It's like he is stealing them, but I know he's not. Keep it up Zach. Just discovered you recently, and I'm beyond impressed.
This song reminds me of the stories my mom would tell me about her dad growing up. Working all day and then coming home to get ready to go to a second job just to make sure that his kids could eat and get the things they wanted/needed. Love this song
Sent this to my dad, haven’t always been on the best of terms but it describes him perfectly . He needed to know how I felt about him . That I understand what you go through and I appreciate it .
Don’t care what you do in life Mr Zach Bryan you sir are a wise/real songwriter and singer! You will fill their shoes brother! You got a friend/brother at arms in me good sir! Your songs have helped me explain me/my past to others. Please don’t stop doing what you do! Don’t conform to Nashville or any of them labels at that! Thank you so much for your talent and service brother! Keep on keeping it !! Maybe one day I can buy you a beer or possibly a 5th??? Cause you know we don’t give no shits!!!
Here's the lyrics that I could get from listening closely, please reply with any corrections - You've heard all the stories when you were back in your prime When you held all your pride in hand stains Because you'd go to work for all bread crumbs and dirt So your kids could stand tall in their name You told me, son there are things to be done When you're older and stronger like me You give all you have just to be a good dad You die a thousand times just to please Old man The blood that you've bled and the mouths that you've fed at your door Old man The sweat that you've poured proves that they don't make them like you no more Old man The dinners you've missed so your daughters could eat at this table Old man I would give back all the things that you've lacked if I was able I've never seen a smile like you did out in Pineville When the crowd screamed the words of your kid You told me boy, it's been a long hard road And this life that I've chose for my kin But I wish and I pray I could go back in time So I could raise up this family again Old man The blood that you've bled and the mouths that you've fed at your door Old man The sweat that you've poured proves that they don't make them like you no more Old man The dinners you've missed so your daughters could eat at this table Old man I would give back all the things that you've lacked if I was able
The only thing I notice is that I think he is saying “the things that you lacked” not “the things that you liked” but yeah I was looking to compare my listening to someone else’s so thank you.
My pop passed on may 23rd of last year and really loved your music and had so much respect for you and your family, I just wanna say thank you for making the music you do man, I played this for him at his funeral and come back to this and feel him with me every time, day, night. @@donovanhowardmusic hey thanks man I'll check your page out now
Cale Judy he’s similar in only some ways. he’s truly himself in many ways. the raw, rough around the edge voice sailor is gonna be around for a while, can’t wait to see his future.
I'm a father of 3 boys and two girls. This song says it perfectly about the sacrifices a man makes to be the best for there kids.
I'm 59 and my 34 yr old son sent me this. Made me cry. Thank you for your service to our country.
Love it
This guy is a gem. You don’t see talent like this all the time
Never had to much of a father figure growing up.
Im in tears. Thank you my friend. This song hits home. I think I'll go visit my old man.
Need a good glass of whiskey and good cry to go along with this song.
Cheers.
Amen
I'll drink to that, cheers brother
That’s my current situation
Cam Bilt me too
My dad is still here with me and I couldn't be happier and more grateful of having him in my life still.
Im sorry for your loss friend. Have you heard Tyler Childers sing 'Coal'?
Ezra Talley absolutely I grew up just on the other side of the tug from Tyler. And I’m currently a miner. Coal is one of my favorites.
Alex is clueless about what it takes to raise a family in the coal fields
@@alexcunningham9224 when there are Bills to pay and mouths to feed there is hard work to be done.
Marine and new dad to be here. I definitely needed to hear this, I can't thank you enough brother 🤟🤟🤟
The amount of emotion in your songs is incredible. You have amazing talent.
Sent this to my dad, haven’t always been on the best of terms but it describes him perfectly . He needed to know how I felt about him . That I understand what you go through and I appreciate it .
This would top the charts if it was released on Spotify or apple.
Was just thinkin the same...
I moved abroad to start a family. you really do not know how much your dad means to you untill you dont see him as often as you used to anymore.
Holy shit dude....you’ve got a great song right there. That’s some raw talent
My father has been everything to the family.... So thank you for this tribute brother!
Would love this to be on spotify ASAP

Don’t care what you do in life Mr Zach Bryan you sir are a wise/real songwriter and singer! You will fill their shoes brother! You got a friend/brother at arms in me good sir! Your songs have helped me explain me/my past to others. Please don’t stop doing what you do! Don’t conform to Nashville or any of them labels at that! Thank you so much for your talent and service brother! Keep on keeping it !! Maybe one day I can buy you a beer or possibly a 5th??? Cause you know we don’t give no shits!!!
Keep it up, Zach! You have amazing talent. Thank you for sharing.
My dads a trucker, he’s never home, recently he was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic lung cancer. This song just makes me cry.
Here's the lyrics that I could get from listening closely, please reply with any corrections -
You've heard all the stories when you were back in your prime
When you held all your pride in hand stains
Because you'd go to work for all bread crumbs and dirt
So your kids could stand tall in their name
You told me, son there are things to be done
When you're older and stronger like me
You give all you have just to be a good dad
You die a thousand times just to please
Old man
The blood that you've bled and the mouths that you've fed at your door
Old man
The sweat that you've poured proves that they don't make them like you no more
Old man
The dinners you've missed so your daughters could eat at this table
Old man
I would give back all the things that you've lacked if I was able
I've never seen a smile like you did out in Pineville
When the crowd screamed the words of your kid
You told me boy, it's been a long hard road
And this life that I've chose for my kin
But I wish and I pray I could go back in time
So I could raise up this family again
Old man
The blood that you've bled and the mouths that you've fed at your door
Old man
The sweat that you've poured proves that they don't make them like you no more
Old man
The dinners you've missed so your daughters could eat at this table
Old man
I would give back all the things that you've lacked if I was able
Aeternex you put “out the puddle” I’m pretty sure he said “out in Pineville” but good work none the less
The only thing I notice is that I think he is saying “the things that you lacked” not “the things that you liked” but yeah I was looking to compare my listening to someone else’s so thank you.
Twizz Dope Gaming Yeah he played a show in Pineville, Kentucky so I’m assuming that’s the reference.
Josh Collins I didn’t notice that part lol but yeah that too!
Josh Collins yeah he I remember that show. Too bad I couldn’t be there. Or to any of them. He’s an amazing artist. In my top 3 for sure.
My pop passed on may 23rd of last year and really loved your music and had so much respect for you and your family, I just wanna say thank you for making the music you do man, I played this for him at his funeral and come back to this and feel him with me every time, day, night. You really are 1 of a kind
May everyone take time to remember those who've sacrificed for you and yours and give thanks - if not in person, than in remembrance.
Reading these comments reminds me just how good I have it, I need to cherish my hard working, loving parents that I get to see every day. Thank you for the reminder.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL BROTHER 💙 I was texting my nephew to send him my condolences when I got this notification, his dad Sean one of my best friends passed away last night and this song coming through when it did almost seemed like a sign, I'm gonna send this to my nephew Johnathan, maybe it'll bring him some comfort right now, you are reminding me alot of Neil Young with your songwriting and I wish you all the Success In The World 💙🧡💜

DnA TV Austin and Dean yeah because crying is gay...
sam robitaille little gay if you ask me
@@anthonymancuso7272 Oh come on dude, its 2020. Men can and should cry, it's human. Stoicism can be a strength, but also a weakness - it's a good servant but a bad master.
Just say no homo and the gay can't get to your soul duh
What a great voice brother! Happy Veterans Day! Thank you for your music and serving this Great County- from a Army Veteran 🇺🇸
I’m a simple man, I see Zach Bryan and I click immediately.
I have 3 daughters and this song really hit me in the feels! I have all the faith in the world that your big day is coming soon brother and you deserve it. Keep hitting us with the great music and don't forget Lubbock Texas on your first tour!
“The dinners you missed so your daughter could eat at this table” Damn. That hit heavier than the first time he posted this.
Thank you so much. I'm living in Germany away from my family in the US and when I listen to this song I can't help but cry and think of everything my father has done for me. This song hits me hard. And I really just wanna say thank you for giving my feelings words ❤️
Man if you can continue to write songs like this you’re gonna be gettin some where big
This man speaks to my soul, glad youtube recommended him.
Okay you got me. I’m officially a fan. This is a beautiful song. And I can literally feel your soul pour out. Very well done. ❤
Just so happened I’ve been having a hard time keeping a job lately. My pops.. he wasn’t like that at all. Don’t know why I can’t. But he sent me this today out of the blue almost like he knew I needed it. I miss you pops wish you didn’t live so far. I sure could use some guidance these days…
His songs make me wish I had another chance at life.
Stay humble brother! Your roots are deep, never let them be ripped up! Fame is just an illusion. For no man should care what those think, that they will never meet.
Reminds me of home! Thank you🙏 I know your daddy will be proud. :)
Relatable mate

Your music is amazing. You’re so so talented. Keep being great🙌🏼
this song is personal for me...my Father is my (stepdad) but to me he is Dad. He has been there through everything and made all of us kids feel loved and has built us up to be good people...i love my dad so much and no they do not make them like him anymore...me and my two sisters were taught and loved by that iron man of a dad
How can anyone dislike this song? Those 29 people must have daddy issues
My little brother was Navy, my best friends a Marine and I’m ex army. The amount these songs mean most if not all is priceless.

What a beautiful song. This made me cry thinking about my daughters not knowing why I was gone in Afghanistan and talking to the guy on the phone.
Yes! Thank you for reposting. My favorite that you’ve released!
I don't know if you are a Neil Young fan or if you even know he has a song with the same title, but our generation needs you as much as Neil Young fans needed him. Pure talent in the song writing, guitar playing, and using the harmonica in your songs. Your a generational talent. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise
“They don’t make ‘em like you anymore”
Your either Zach
This is greatness brother... I to have a father who sacrificed so much
He is so amazing, I seen him on tiktok. He should put his RUclips link on his tiktok. Keep up the amazing work buddy and stay strong. I know you gonna reach your dreams.
