      @@tedflanc1024 Modern day remakes or anything that pulls from a gothic horror story.. usually kill their film instantly with a modern setting. I dont even watch that crap... I only watch real gothic horror set in period times... of the past. If its even close to the 21st century I wont even watch that garbage... cause it ruins all the creepy vibes and brings phones and guns and cars into the story.. then they have to find a way to make sure the characters can never call in a stealth bomber to kill the monster in the first act... trash writing to try and appeal to modern audiences that don't like watching movies set in the past.
      Critics hated this film cause it wasnt some cell phone aged new re telling... boring.. who would wanna see that crap.
      This film is better than the original, love the whole insane asylum act became a horror comedy in that moment watching all the professors shit their pants.

    I always loved the mysterious train scene with the mysterious man and his mysterious cane with the wolf head. He spoke of Gevaudan which is another legend ''La Bete du Gevaudan'' I believe about a Monster/Beast in a French town somewhere aound the 1600s-1700s. I've always wondered who that man was, and if he sensed something about Lawrence that reminded him of his time in Gevaudan. Perhaps he knew about the stories of Blackmoor. Maybe he was a werewolf too, since in the books Lawrence felt his touch while he handed over the cane and he was strangely cold. And his enigmatic smile after Lawrence rejected the wolf cane. Max von Sydow really played that part well!

    So I finally watched the original Lon Chaney Jr. film and... and I know people are going to hate me for saying this, but I like this version better. Now don't get me wrong: the original is still a great film and the awesomeness of Lon Chaney Jr., Claude Rains, and the great Bela Lugosi can not be duplicated (though Anthony Hopkins comes pretty close). However, I just felt like this movie had a better atmosphere (setting it in Victorian England was a stroke of genius) and it didn't (appear to) suffer from some of the executive meddling that the original did.
    The original was meant to be a psychological thriller, but the studio pushed it to be a straight up monster movie against the wishes of the writer, and I felt that showed in the final product. This movie didn't have that problem.
    Finally, and this is through no fault of the original, but because of the evolution of special effects and action choreography, I definitely felt like this is the version of the Wolfman monster that we were originally intended to see. People like to complain about modern special effects, but thanks to them we are able to see the Wolfman run and jump and eviscerate in ways the original never could. I'm sorry, but if you forced me to pick between this and the original, I would pick this film every time.

    A worthy remake of the MCMXLI classic starring Bela Lugosi, and Claude Rains, and Lon Chaney Junior.

    Even though the story was completely different than Lon Chaney Jr's version, I still really liked this one. It had some pretty sweet moments. My sister, who hates horror movies, even liked this movie. I was worried I wasn't going to like the movie, but overall I thought it was really cool...

    A few years ago, my dad watched this while we were staying at my grandma's house. I didn't get the full blast of it (I was mainly pacing through the same rooms in the house, waiting for it to be over), but I got enough glances at the film to be too scared to go to sleep; I had to sleep on the couch in the dark living room all by myself, and if I'm not mistaken, there was a full moon out that night.

      Zach Kabia I think that's what he finds scary the fact it can just break right through your door and rip you apart.

    • @missagente8100
      @missagente8100 7 лет назад

      Aaron Mackellar Yeah. That was basically it. And just all that blood and entrails spilled all over the place was enough to keep me awake all night.

      Zach Kabia (spoilers ahead)
      In the wolfman during the climax Anthony Hopkins battles his son while in there human forms and it shows he has super human strength cause he threw a reasonably large chair all the way across the room with one arm and this guy is in his 60s at the very least so it's obvious him being a werewolf for so long has given his human form a boost in strength and speed.

      @mrmackellar3337 7 лет назад +1

      Zach Kabia on how strong werewolves are. It really depends on the franchise were talking for this movie I'd say about 5-10 tons that's a guess but most werewolves are about that strong.

      Zach Kabia I know I'm warning anybody who's gonna read this thread in the future who haven't seen the film yet.

    19th century in England? One of the best werewolf movies I've seen, cgi was actually not terrible (since they actually used makeup) and the story wasn't even that bad. Why did the critics destroy this masterpiece?

    It has only just accured to me (as sad as It Is), that the gentlemen he meets on the train says he purchased his walking stick from a master silversmith many years ago Gévaudan, France. Which between 1764 and I think 1767? There were over 200 attacks and over 100 deaths from La Bête du Gévaudan. Which the locals believed to be a Werewolf. His walking stick bares the head of the famous statue.
