Being an old man and kind of beat up and not having all of my original parts anymore, I absolutely love this guitar! I wouldn't part with that for any amount of money! Heavy as hell too but I don't mind that; I'd love to put a Bigsby on mine as well. Really enjoy your videos man. Looking forward to seeing what else you have picked up.
I had an early 70s Tele Custom, with the humbucker. It had a 3 bolt neck. *I got rid of it after suffering with the muddy sounding humbucker for too long. Why didn't I change it? I wanted a Strat. And I got one.
Amazing tone, wonderful patina' great video ...I have a stock blonde 73 in great condition except for a bit of finish loss -top bout underarm revealing the Ash body, it too has a 'white Top hat switch tip' ...wondering if this was a replacement or Fender alternative at the time?

Forget what it looks like, it sounds incredible! I once had a late 70s telecaster, weighed about a ton and had microphonic pickups, once the pickups were rewound it was an awesome instrument.
Correct about the finish. In 1968 Fender started using Polyester but what most people don't understand is that the Polyester was for the undercoat on the body and the neck...they still used Nitro for the topcoat on the bodies and the headstock face which explains why they aged the way they did. This continued throughout the 1970s until the early 1980s when they switched to full Polyurethane(except for the reissues which continued using Nitro).

I like the burnt caramel color, and the matching color on the headstock looks great. The guitar sounds good - I like hearing the "electricity" in the tone. It is something I usually hear in your videos. Do you think that comes primarily from the guitar pickups, or is it the way you dial in the tone on your Amps? Thanks
I’ve been trying to figure out how to get that sort of tone- the old les Paul he has is just full of that sort of classic sound. I’d love to know if it’s the amp in this case

Its very common for people to use a tube screamer pedal with the gain turned down, but the tone and the volume turned high--> into a tube amp to get a very glitzy tone without too much distortion. @@MatthewScottmusic : If I’m not mistaken, CBS bought new routing machines and these machines just couldn’t make the right curve. There are also a bunch of Telecasters with a body that is somewhere in the middle of the two shapes. I’m not sure how that happened.
I love the look of it. And it is a testament that 70's Fenders can sound and play fantastic. Even a Tele converted not to be string through. Like any great guitar setup is paramount. And of course being able to play as the sound starts at the fingers.
Matthew, I think you should brush paint it with white gloss, the neck aswell so it’s all coordinated. Clean the black marks on the fretboard or even sand them down and put some thick glossy varnish on it. Then put a black scratch plate on it(you can make them yourself with an old bathtub from a skip) then to get the sound you like, some nice pickups from a Yamaha Pacifica. What do you think? I used to play on occasion with a auto mechanic that had an old Fender Jaguar. Maple fretboards are apparently much more effective at getting oil off the hands than Boraxo! Yeah, we played dives so nobody noticed.

Can appreciate what the guitar is...not a fan of the Bigsby but i like it in this guitar, on your guitar. Kool piece.....i still wonder what came of the Pelham Blue SG?
When I found that guitar in the broken down house, it was a sticky mess. The clear coat has reacted with the original case and turned into a gooey mess. It sat in the case, unplayed, with no strings on it, bridge was missing, for at least 20 years. The case had totally rotted away around it. The neck was so back bowed it was unplayable. With the truss rod loose, I had to to put a giant C clamp by the the 7th fret and left it that way for about a month...
I see that guitar is still smoking a pack a day.

Don’t care that much what it looks like. If I close my eyes while listening to you play, it sounds amazing
(And a strap with heavy metal wrote down in)
I used to play on occasion with a auto mechanic that had an old Fender Jaguar. Maple fretboards are apparently much more effective at getting oil off the hands than Boraxo! Yeah, we played dives so nobody noticed.
Matthew , I watch your videos on guitars you have acquired . Yiu have done several Teles. My favorite, I’m selling a 1968 original black . I’m over in Dall
I'm guessing to get that wonderful tone w/o pedals, it's pretty loud?
Always love your playing and that great tone...
I'm praying you'll be gigging soon...(?)
cheers
Sounds nice with the bigsby!
