How do people not get the concept of this video initially? It starts off as a complete scene that you might see in a movie, then resets piece by piece to its raw parts. Then it shows piece by piece how it all comes together to make a full scene.
For some reason people expect Simon to be in the forefront of filmmaking, and when they get disappointed they unsub? People, what the hell? How high expectations do you have of a 19-year-old? And stop pretending this video was hard to understand or too "artsy", there are even titles for everything.
dude there is a happy medium between artistic and bland. you have been trying so hard over the last few months this had become less educational and more experimental than what im here for. why am I subbed?
Beginners are the ones not ready for this. Amazing video, Simon. From the very first twist I got it and I was like... Interesting mind this guy has, that's why I keep coming back eventho I watched all your tuts, your productions are starting to get interesting, seeing now the way your storytelling works is what keeps me coming back. Best of successes in all of your projects, my man, I hope that we can work together some day. Cheers from Mexico.
Great stuff once again, Mr Cade, sir. I especially like the detail shots! Now to the billion dollar question...just how, HOW do you manage to preserve film grain on RUclips? Usually, YT compression somehow mistakes it for noise, and makes a mess off of the video quality. Thanks! keep em coming!
For those who can't understand this video, look the description. He shows what happens when we remove the essential things for the film. In reverse, what are needed for film and how it effects it.
its a brilliant video ! . . . first he makes film with all filmmaking elements in it [ dialogues, acting, lighting, make up, costume, color grading etc.] then he remove them one by one . . . then adds them again so we can see the difference . . .
Took a while to grasp the idea but once I did, everything started to come together.Great work Mr. Cade, not a lot of youtubers take the risk of making a youtube video where the audience has to actually think, and not just have everything served in their face. :)
Nothing is sexier than a british accent (speaking about the beautiful girl with the white t-shirt). Awesome video, by the way; i specially love how the behind the scenes actually becomes the story itself and the theme around which the whole video revolves.
Daaaang. Simon's rockin' the facial hair (a testament to how long I've been watching these videos). Haha! I'm diggin' the sophisticated approach of this video. Shows that he's maturing in more ways than one. Although, you can't go wrong with traditional Simon Cade either, apple and all.
Mate you're going to be a great film maker. You know it, I know it. Why? Because you do amazing things with simple gear and make what you want, how you want, and you bring everybody along for the ride. Haters gonna hate you for not acknowledging their mediocrity
This channel is not going in the right direction. I loved how it mixed really useful, practical tips with expressing your views about the filmmaking. Recently, the channel got "lazy". It's been nothing but talking heads, expressing your thougths about filmmaking (which i often agree with), but not trying to pass any practical knowledge. I understand that filmmaking is mostly art, but i believe that both you, Simon, and your audience still have a lot to learn, an it would be really nice to watch some videos focused on that, every now and then.
don't worry about the ad! I loved the video. You were even considerate enough to choose an ad that really benefits your audience instead of some shit that would make you more money. Thanks!
I've got to be honest, I actually agree with him on the whole camera thing (although constantly hearing it over and over is getting annoying). What I didn't like was the lighting. Look at the "finished" shot then compare it to the actress getting her makeup or going over lines at 1:25. The finished one is hard to look at while the others are really nice. I think _that's_ how the finished one should have looked. He even kept the film grain in the makeup shot without making it look noisy rather than "vintage". I just can't say it enough *I love that shot*.
Really good video 👍🏻 so, here is the question. On my channel I try to make decent videos and I have som good sound gear, but because it is to do with physical training I can't risk breaking any of the gear so my sound isn't much good, also what is the best way to film action ? Thanks
*We're no Simon Cade, but we're definitely hard working and learning everyday. My sister and I are aspiring filmmakers, vloggers, and RUclipsrs. If we can convince you to support our endeavor with our content it'll mean the world to us. If you don't feel like you have time to check us out, it's all good! The first and most important is "WRITING". Because it lasts till the end. Writing a good script, finding a producer (or being a producer), directing, casting, acting, cinematography, lighting, production design, shooting locations, costume/make-up, editing, sound engineering, music, coloring, special and visual effects, rendering...etc. When the final draft is ready, director goes on writing and writes all the thing above. Writing ends when the film is on screen. SO... Writing, writing, and writing again!
I thought grain was just luminous noise (as opposed to chromatic). Either way, I think he needs to tone it down a notch. There's tasteful and then there's overdoing it. It's really bad at 0:22. It's the same reason why you don't actually handhold your DSLR for a "handheld feel". Sure, it's technically correct, but it looks horrible.
Hi simon, I'm trying to get into film making and I'm working on my first screen play at the moment. However I don't know how I'm going to get actors, I'm only 13 and none of my friends are interested. I'm afraid If I ask an actual actor they won't take me seriously because of my age and I'm to busy behind the camera to act as well. What should I do?
Question: I want to study filmmaking, like directing and my local college (UK person btw) does something called film studies, is it different to filmmaking or not?
I got the video. People in the comments need to stop taking a 3 minute video so seriously just because they "didn't get it". Stop whining just because you don't see the logic in something.
Been following Simon since the very beginning. Less than 5k subs. Really incredible how far he's come...
for real! His content is next level...
woahhh dude Ryan I love ur videos. such an inspiration to me
i remember when he put out his custom camera rig vid... i built one like it
WHAT? Surprised someone knows my channel here!!! Thank you
i was already here less than 20k subs!! heh

I'm here!
After looking at the description I now understand it and I loved it
Wow!!! This was a very creative deconstruction/reconstruction of film making! I really dig the minimalistic text animation too!
I've missed seeing Simon since he made this, so I simply watched this again. Magic! But hope you'll come up with another new one soon, Mr Cade...
Nothing is sexier than a british accent (speaking about the beautiful girl with the white t-shirt).
Awesome video, by the way; i specially love how the behind the scenes actually becomes the story itself and the theme around which the whole video revolves.
beautiful eyes too
jippalippa Agree 100%. And OMG was that blonde woman beautiful!!!! 😱
It's a shame some people aren't getting this. Please watch it at least twice and you will start to understand. Very good concept. Nicely done.
Don't listen to the haters, Simon, your work is incredibly inspiring.
I've been watching you for a very long time (7-8 years) but this is the first time I've commented on one of your videos, thank you for everything.
great visuals. lots of people, for many things we consume, don't fully understand all the work that goes into something.
I like how you didn't put #ad in the title and when you did in the video it was in like 11pt font in the corner! Nice one mate!
Daaaang. Simon's rockin' the facial hair (a testament to how long I've been watching these videos). Haha! I'm diggin' the sophisticated approach of this video. Shows that he's maturing in more ways than one. Although, you can't go wrong with traditional Simon Cade either, apple and all.
thank you so much for the opportunity to learn a lot more about film for free 🙌 I really loved the way you've put this video together.
Mate you're going to be a great film maker. You know it, I know it. Why? Because you do amazing things with simple gear and make what you want, how you want, and you bring everybody along for the ride. Haters gonna hate you for not acknowledging their mediocrity
Great rhythm and ambiance. Looks like your style keeps improving! keep up the good work 😉
Wow DSLR,
Thanks so much. amazing video.
i can't wait to start the courses!
Really well done, as always :) Goes to show just how collaborative filmmaking is and how it is so much more than just "point and shoot".
Nice! I got it straight away- really gave a good insight on how balanced everything needs to be to produce a good film.
Very creative way of breaking down the process of filmmaking!
Most excellent, sir!! Wonderful creativity!
Everytime you upload a video it's always a masterpiece!
That was a genius experimental portrayal of all the elements that makes a film a film. Good Work Mate 👌

That was quite an effective way of holding my attention throughout. Good job!
Nice way to talk about what makes a film ! Simple and kind of strange, but interesting. :)
don't worry about the ad! I loved the video. You were even considerate enough to choose an ad that really benefits your audience instead of some shit that would make you more money. Thanks!
I really like the look of your pick up shots. Are they shot with the camera you own and if so how can i achieve this look? Thanks
You're such an inspiration Simon!
I'm finally uploading a funny short film I worked on over a year ago.
Nice to see you back Simon!
This is so amazing video! Essence, great job!
OMG thank you for the free trial! I'm super keen to try it out
@DSLRguide I was going to ask what grain you used, but I can see that its film convert (I'm assuming from description).
Can you make a video about tips for film with colors lighting??
This is Art. Simply put.
THE HELL THIS IS F-ING AWESOME
You just uploaded a video
"The Art of Filmmaking of Filmmaking"
I'll go check that out thank you Simon!
...a film. BOOM! Drop the mic! Amazing video!
dud, this was so good
i love your channel. you always give us good and useful tips. thank you for that.
Amazing content as always !
I love your videos so much! You have taught me almost everything I know! Thank you so much!
aren't you gonna make a video about how do you setup your audio and edit it ?
PLEASE JUST BUY A NEW CAMERA
LOL but you don't "need" one. XD
The grain was intensional, it was added in post. You do realise that a good film does not equal to having no grain, its called art style...
i think simon has explained himself enough

Simon you creative genius. I love this !
This kept me on the edge of my seat, even tho nothing happened, awesome job man. :)
this is how advertising and product placement on youtube should be
Really good video 👍🏻 so, here is the question. On my channel I try to make decent videos and I have som good sound gear, but because it is to do with physical training I can't risk breaking any of the gear so my sound isn't much good, also what is the best way to film action ? Thanks
mate this is brilliant, congrats on the amazing content. .bless up
you have the cleanest close ups

Lol, the shots of the makeup and the actors going over their lines looked better lit and graded than the actual scene.
Why did so many people dislike this???? It is amazing!!! Keep rockin' Simon!
You have outdone yourself....awesome video....interesting wait to see what would happen.
Question: what is the reason for making your videos have a lot of grain (I think that is what it is)
A crappy camera
bucci ramos bad camera or just bad lightning
Sorry I meant how come his videos are Grainy I know he's doing it on purpose. But what is the purpose?
That's the thing, there's no purpose
yeah, I assumed it was just camera/lighting etc because I didn't think it could be on purpose
how u do yr titles they are so amazing. the text specially in the end of the video.
You making me so inspired. Thanks!
I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS

Can I ask a simple question? Where can I get audios or background musics for my video?
So not a video about the T3i? 😉
How long is the trial available for? I'd love to try it but just not right now
Yeah!!! Perfect executed! Wow!
hey bro , i want to lern color grading ,how do i learn esily for videos
Thank you
I will keep you posted
Brilliant video, skillshare's really helpful thanks
so. much. grain.
Imagine what a better camera could do . . .
or just better lighting. Does anyone know how many movies he's actually made?
grain and noise are different things..
yeah exactly, it was probably added in post
I thought grain was just luminous noise (as opposed to chromatic).
Either way, I think he needs to tone it down a notch. There's tasteful and then there's overdoing it. It's really bad at 0:22. It's the same reason why you don't actually handhold your DSLR for a "handheld feel". Sure, it's technically correct, but it looks horrible.
holy shit the point there was to show what happens with no lighting...
What a wonderful little video!
first of all sorry my english. what should i buy camera for filmmaking and photos sony a6000 or canon 750 d. what do you prefer?
Brilliant Simon, thank you!
"The Art of Filmmaking with a T3i"

I'm afraid If I ask an actual actor they won't take me seriously because of my age and I'm to busy behind the camera to act as well. What should I do?

YOUR MOUTH MAKES SO MUCH NOISE WOW
Holy shit dude! You need to update your color grading tutorial!

Which film grain did you use in the video?
Question: I want to study filmmaking, like directing and my local college (UK person btw) does something called film studies, is it different to filmmaking or not?
a good idea but I thought it could be better if you suggest the idea at the start
his mustache is growing :-)
So I have to give them a credit card number for a FREE course..ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!
Great video, Cade!
What? Not another t3i video! Yay!
Great Idea!!! Keep up the good work ;)

I got the video. People in the comments need to stop taking a 3 minute video so seriously just because they "didn't get it". Stop whining just because you don't see the logic in something.
P.S. READ THE DESCRIPTION PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
