Thank you for posting this...I was not able to attend this years festival...I remember the Home Service appearing at the 1982 festival. John Tams is one of my favourite vocalists and a lovely man having spoken to him on numerous occasions over the past 40 years.
Thanks David and to your wife for recording this, I was just little to your left and it was the highlight of weekend for me, great to have this memory of it. A big thanks to Graeme, John and the rest of the chaps a wonderful experience as always, well worth the wait!
Saw them first at the half moon in putney, after seeing them at the National Theatre playing for Bill Brydons productions, in the 80s, still awesome...
Excellent quality video, David. Thanks for posting. Excellent set from Home Service. Very pleased to see John Tams back with them (socialist polemic an' all!). One tiny quibble: Vaughan Williams' piece is The Lark Ascending, not Arising.
Sorry, no, my wife recorded it because we adore Home Service, and the Lark Ascending segment is beautiful, particularly in that special field. So glad you like it, though!
John Tams, is a folk legend..I was surprised to see him as I thought he had retired. Wish he’d just do what he was there to do though, sing and entertain instead of making political speeches though.. ruined it for me with his socialist claptrap.
Folk music is largely the music of ordinary working class folk - yes, it’s now enjoyed more by affluent people, but ‘socialist clap trap’ is what a lot of folk music is actually about. Perhaps you should try listening to the lyrics?
Thankfully, this is still a free(ish) country, and I listen to what he says with interest. I fear Priti Patel and her foul crowd will legislate to silence him, and others. When she does be afraid, be very afraid.
@@scaramouche853 Then you ought to understand that the music of Home Service is inherently political and, yes, socialist. It's daft to try and separate the music from the politics that underpins it. You can't have the one without the other.

The main reason that I attended on Friday. Just wish it could have lasted longer. It was magical. Many thanks for posting.
Wow , together again with John Tams! Just so good it hurts!
Thanks for posting this. This is where I nearly lost it. Absolutely marvellous.

Do you actually understand anything at all about Home Service or folk music in general?
