My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

If you have to speak to a salesman to figure out the discount, things have still not changed enough. Cars dropping $1000 is not going to get the job done. $99,000 for a truck is way too much. Even with the $15,000 off, it is still $85,000 + interest charges. 85,000/60 is still $1,416 a month. I just cannot fathom paying that, then insurance and finally, gas prices for the truck. That would be around $2,000 per month just to drive a vehicle.

But the repair was 4500 dollars not bad compared to the prices of diesel trucks nowadays. It's astonishing. Also not to mention how all this new stuff isn't built to last with all these censors and emissions. Also manufactures aren't designing these new cars and trucks to last. That is the plan for companies like ford. Clearing out the dealers in any state will enable them to do direct sales in some states and then they can use the out of state purchase as a way to sell to people in states where they cannot do direct sales.
Direct sales is the only option legacy auto has to reduce prices without losing margin.

Just because the dealerships might be lowering their prices a little dab is hardly the market crashing. Little discounts like $1500 ain’t shit. New vehicles are over priced in many cases 10’s of thousands. When the dealers start going out of business then I would say the vehicle market is crashing. If Americans would stop paying these ridiculous prices just to get a new vehicle to keep up with the neighbors, then things will turn around. Do we not look at the value of what we are spending our money on anymore?

Most of these truck prices need to come down by 1/2 or more to be realistic, and dealers have been skinning customers for so long now that they just won't drop their prices to reasonable, rational levels. I hope several large dealerships go under; that's the ONLY way the market, as a whole, will correct itself. But like our pathetic political scene in America, it comes down to the citizen/consumer. You cant just go to bobs garage and expect him to calibrate an adaptive cruise radar and 360 camera system. There is alot more to it than most people know.

The good news is inventory levels are increasing like crazy. The dealers/oems are stubborn and are trying with all their might to hold onto the higher margin model. I know it seems like forever but things are moving back to reality. Unfortunately you still need to know how to negotiate. Know when to walk out is your number one rule. Always negotiate the OTD price and NOT payment amount. Never get emotionally attached and never test drive the car at the place you try to buy. They see that as a weakness. VERY important. Also show them the best deals you have researched from other markets online and tell them you have no problem traveling out of state to get a fair deal but will give them the chance to sell it locally. If you pay cash don't tell them that up front. Let them think you might finance it. And if at any time you feel they think they have the upper hand then go back to rule number one and walk. Because they really never have the upper hand. The buyer should be the one that maintains control. I would set a date of Jan 31. Dealers are very slow that time and its well before tax refund time. Plus its the end of the month when dealers are trying to make quotas. After the holidays money is in short supply. Dealerships are empty. The lots are full now but it will be even worse by that time. With allot probably rotting over 150 days on the lot. That's when you hit them. When they are at the weakest point and desperate. And show no mercy. I'd tend to look, act, and behave like a used car guy when I buy. My wife doesn't like me when she sees me like that but I tell here their is a method to the madness of buying cars lol.

Just buy one from the original owner who did all the maintenance, then spend another 2-3k to replace/upgrade it to make it as reliable as a new vehicle and for under $10k, you have a vehicle big enough for a family with real 4x4 capability that's built on a tough truck platform. CEO of GM said prices are going up 50%. Gotta pay the union till AI has all the jobs and they’re in the unemployment line. Eventually it will be the super rich and the poor. Middle class is almost done.

Yup, just told a dealer today that we'd rather wait 6-12 months when dealerships start deep discounting...because they will.

Thank you for the outtakes, it reminds us you are just a human out there in the real world. Not just the matrix.

Thank you for the info. We decided to wait to buy due to the higher interest and insurance premium rates.

Prices are coming down a little in Florida, but the dealers are still charging large BS fees, so really no difference, in the Tampa Bay area specifically!!!

There you go Brandon, your observations are now coming to pass, it might have taken a while before the price reductions came, however it looks like it's here! Well Done!

The economy is a ship wreck, millions of people lost their jobs inflation is through the roof, people can barely afford food, car theft is rampant and the last thing people are looking to do is buy a new car. Even if they lowered the price to 35 grand the banks won't give people a loan because they are bankrupt also. No body can afford any kind of new car payment because of insurance rates are to high. If you are having a problem selling cheap used vehicles I would say people are tapped out.
