Thanks for joining again! In this video, we’ll be sharing our 18+ hour travel experience from the U.S. to Canada to the U.K. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles! It was relatively easy going compared to previous trips, and we couldn’t be more thankful for that. There were a few minor hiccups along the way, but nothing we couldn’t handle. We’ll also show you a quick glimpse of what’s to come as we briefly explore Edinburgh’s princess street and gardens in order to hunt down Annie’s biometric residence permit. Be sure to tune in the next few weeks as we have some HUGE news!!!
Welcome to Scotland 🏴. Enjoy our beautiful country,
Thank you! So thankful to be here!
@@SimpleScottishLiving Enjoy ten months of rain a year
Hi Zach and Annie. My wife and I and two children emigrated from the uk to Australia in 2003.It was a massive move and our children were young.
It all worked out very well with the occasional bump in the journey. We. very much call australia home now but never forget our roots.
Good luck with your exciting move to the UK and health and happiness to you guys and your family.Well done.
Thank you for sharing! We’re hoping we all settle in soon and that we can fully assimilate as well :)
Hi,
Hope you get over 100 day cough very soon.
We moved up to Scotland in 2003, I just wanted to welcome you to the most beautiful, amazing and wonderful country in the world!
You will not regret it, it was the best decision we ever made for our family.
Hubby is Scottish, we met in England, he always wanted to come back to his homeland, and so we did, our 2 young boys (8yrs & 10yrs) missed their friends, it did take a while for them to adjust, don't be surprised if any of your children seem upset etc, moving is stressful enough for us adults, I'm sure they will settle quickly.
Luckily for our 2 their aunt, uncle and 2 cousins already lived here.
I so hope you settle in soon, I absolutely love living here. The Scottish people are amazing, friendly and genuine.
Take care of all of you, and welcome again 🤗 to Bonnie 🏴 Scotland 🏴 ❤️
Thank you for this thoughtful comment and for sharing your experience! So far, the kids seem to be settling in well. Luckily, we had done a move last year and that helped the transition as they were only new to their friends. Hoping we get to stay in the same spot now for a long, long time ❤️ we appreciate the warm welcome!!
@@SimpleScottishLiving
Awwe, glad the children are settling well, I think that's a huge hurdle already overcome.
There is just something about Scotland that's hard to explain or define.
Having lived here for over 20 years everything still feels like new, only a few months ago I learned of a little waterfall I hadn't a clue existed 😊 well... It is only 8 years since we moved here 😁 I still feel lucky, blessed and proud to say I am a New Scot!
We live in Aberdeenshire, not far from Ballater, if you are ever up this way exploring... and if you like cycling, the village has just opened a brand new mountain bike/cycling centre that has had rave reviews...so, the door is always open for a coffee or tea etc, you'll all be welcome.
Take care for now ❤️
@@user-mi1yt6ju6f your no Scottish just cause you moved here pal. if i moved to Zimbabwe does that make me african? naw is disny

Awwwe bless, do you need a hug from a NEW SCOT, here you go, hope these make you feel a bit better pal ❤️🏴❤️🏴❤️🏴❤️🏴❤️🏴❤️🏴
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I'm not sure why you needed to say anything, do you know me, what upset you so much that you needed to *put me in my place?*
Was it to *make* me *go back to where I came from?* because it very much sounded like that to me.
You take care of yourself pal, hope you have a good life!
@@user-mi1yt6ju6f as a born & bred lifelong Scottish person myself, sorry about the other user. I'm glad you're enjoying God's country. Lang may yer lum reek xxx
When you see friends and family saying goodbye, you realise just how big an invention the internet was. There was a time when saying goodbye really meant it. Now you can see each other every day online 🙂
True! It brings a sense of comfort for sure :)
So very, very true…..moved to Canada in ‘74 and Skype has made the world so small
“o wad some pow'r the giftie gie us to see oursels as ithers see us!” ....
I don't think I've been so nosey about strangers business asking why?
You guys have swapped what looks like paradise to many of us to come here where we have 4 seasons in one day. I'll be subbing to follow your journey. Welcome. 🏴🇺🇲

We feel extremely grateful ❤️ can’t wait to share it with others!
Loving your videos!!! I moved back to Ireland after nearly 20 years in USA. I too had culture shock but trust me you will soon realise all the advantages in a slower pace of life and the easy access to Europe!! I love my little trips to other cultures!! ❤
So looking forward to it! Such a huge decision to return after so much time, but we know it will be well worth it. Thanks for tuning in!
Welcome! I don't think you will regret your move. Scotland is a wonderful place if you can ignore the weather. On the nicer days there's no better place to be!
We couldn’t be happier. It’s such a special place to raise a family ❤️
Without the rain, Scotland wouldn't be as amazing as it is 👍

I hope the weather improves for you, the last 11 months are the wettest I've ever known in the UK... Absolutely depressing!
Thank you! We seemed to have moved at the right time, only light showers for about a week total out of the month we’ve been here. We’re not taking it for granted!

Just stumbled across this video and had a good watch! I'm Scottish and I live in north east. I can tell you now that it is one of the most beautiful countries you will ever live in, with lots of wildlife, better living standard and most people are really friendly. Enjoy your stay and wishing you guys the best! You will love it here. :)
Thank you for the warm welcome and for sharing! We do absolutely love it here so far and can’t wait to see how it truly feels once we’re finally settled in. ❤️

Never got to meet you. Love following your adventure. Rebecca keeps us looped in.
Wendy and Jerry in Indiana.
So glad to have you following along!! Wishing you both well, and hopefully, we'll be able to meet in person at some point down the road!
One of THE best views on the planet, coming out of the Waldo Tunnel and seeing the Golden Gate Bridge and the City. When it's foggy you can see the bridge towers peeking above the fog and when it's sunny it is glorious. And then you cross the bridge and get into the City and reality hits. Bon Voyage and I wish you well. It will be fun to follow your journey.
I have to agree. My grandparents always lived in Marin growing up, so it’s incredibly nostalgic to me. Thank you for tuning in! ❤️
Loved watching your video! Welcome to Scotland, hope you stay forever. The best country on earth - no bias!
Thank you!! We hope we stay forever as well ❤️🏴
Looking forward tae many more videos
Great video! You guys are truly family travel rock stars ⭐️.
I get the “traveling with young kids”😅. A number of years ago (before internet 😮), my wife and I traveled with our 2 boys (2 and 4) from NJ to Canterbury, Kent for a 2 year stay while I was on a Fulbright teaching exchange. Fortunately, we only had 1 flight to deal with. I remember all of the registrations we had to fill out, from the local police to the NHS, to organizing daycare/playgroup for the youngest and preschool for the oldest. My wife has Scottish ancestry (MacPherson) so there’s a Highland connection. I love Edinburgh and Inverness.
Will be looking forward to your next videos.
Thank you for sharing and for watching! We hope to showcase the many different areas of the UK. Couldn’t be happier here ❤️
great video, great editing, looking forward to following your journey and your new life, the UK wone dissapoint
We can't wait to experience it all! We've dreamt about this for a decade.
Beautiful thank you so much
Hi Zach and Annie. My wife found your video so is now following you as I'm hoping she'll see the attraction of moving up to either Perthshire or within an hour of Edinburgh. Enjoy your adventure.
We’re headed that way in a few weeks. Hopefully, we can share some footage of the lovely area. Wishing you well ❤️
Edinburgh is stunning. I am very fond of that place, especially at Christmas-time!
Agreed! We can’t wait to show our kids all the Christmas festivities and decorations. Thank you for watching!
My parents emigrated us as a family from uk to Australia in 1981. I was 7. I was heartbroken leaving my Grandparents. No internet then. Used snail mail to communicate as phone calls were expensive. Thankfully they visited us downunder many times and I have been back to UK a lot. But is still something I will never forget.
That must’ve been incredibly difficult. It makes it feel less painful leaving loved ones when you can FaceTime daily. ❤️
whoever's doing the filming of the inserted clips has a really good eye! you will go far!
Thank you for the kind words! We’re definitely amateurs but learning as we go and thoroughly enjoying the process. We appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment ❤️

Lived in Edinburgh for five years and loved it apart from the weather, now living in deepest Wales and it's basically the same story :-) but every time we drive home to our cottage through the valleys we forget the weather, it's always an uplifting experience. A huge huge welcome to you all. Scotland is amazing but don’t forget to come and have a look around England at some point. 😊
Thank you! We can’t wait to explore all of the U.K. Any recommendations for first places to go in England?
@@SimpleScottishLiving London tends to be the first place many people want to visit and with good reason of course. It can be tough with little ones though and hopefully (if you say pretty please enough to the grandparents 😂) the two of you might get the chance to fly down for a weekend at some point. It is often said though, that there is London and then there is England as, like most major cities it’s very different to the rest of the country. Prettiest bits are the Cotswolds and Devon. Great beaches in Devon for the children. Also, Cambridge, Oxford and Bath are stunning cities. Hiring a punt and taking a picnic along the river Cam on a gorgeous sunny day can be blissful. You both seem great and I really, really hope that everything works out wonderfully for you all. I see you have cops within your friends/family circle as well so as an ex-UK cop, an even bigger welcome 😊
@@MB-fz7lx We appreciate the support and all of the insight. I think we might just have to make multiple trips both with the kids and possibly solo! It’s always nice to hear from others, who have shared in similar experiences. If you know…you know ;)
That was a good and detailed response, @@MB-fz7lx
But if you want to have a first look at England from Scotland, it might be a good idea to make that first visit an easy one. Visit Northumberland first because it is on the Scotland/England border. Maybe visit Linsdisfarne (Holy Island) and Bamburgh with its castle. Then down to Durham to visit the World Heritage Site Cathedral overlooking the River Wear.
Then, if you have, time nip down to Yorkshire to see Whitby (The Abbey, 99 Steps, Dracula!) and medieval/Roman York with its incomparable Minster.
All of those are in the East coast of Northern England but on the North West Coast just South of the Border you will find Carlisle and then the beautiful Lake District.
Further south can await later visits...
Just found you.
Good Luck. You seem to be good at this....
@@SimpleScottishLiving if you like the last kingdom you can visit the castle it’s absolutely amazing in Northumbria.
Could haven't landed in in a more beautiful city. Good luck for the future.
Welcome to the UK. I am from Yorkshire originally, but live in Alberta Canada for the last 30 years. I miss the UK countryside and mostly the Hospitality and the friendliness of the English people. Yep the weather can be dreary, but i live in 5 months in harsh winters, not sure which is worse. Good luck to you both and the family!!!
Thank you for the warm welcome! Weather is just one piece of the puzzle. We’re willing to put up with anything for the most part in order to be close to family and a safer lifestyle!
Well done! The cannon was interesting - great to see the puff of the firing and then a second or two passed before hearing the 'Bang!' :-)
It was surprising to see it so vividly. The kids thoroughly enjoyed!
You seem like a lovely couple. All the best to you and your family and welcome to Scotland. One piece of advice! See all of Scotland before a holiday on the continent. A great holiday location away from what can be our poor weather, is a wee holiday to Fuerteventura. Welcome!!
Will do! ❤️
I liked your use of the term wildling there’s a few of those in Scotland😂
Beautiful, beautiful architecture. You guys got to get a drone so we can see all the green of Scotland.
Good luck to you guys and welcome to Scotland. Made a similar move from SF to Glasgow in 2014. Great place to live but short winter days and changeable weather are outstanding and unresolved issues even 10 years on 😂. Book holidays to sunny places as often as you can and travel in winter to break it up ❤
Good tip! We’re already planning a holiday to GA next summer to stay with the grandparents :)
You have four seasons now. Just embrace cosy stuff when the weather isn’t great.
You have an amazing country to explore there. West coast, Aberdeenshire, tons of places.
Then you also have amazing train connections right into the UK. Northumberland coast, York, Lake District, London, south coast….
Enjoy!
Thank you! So true :) We can’t wait to get settled and then to start exploring and making the most of this gorgeous country.

Thank you! We’ll put up with garbage weather for an overall safer and healthier life for the kids any day 🙂❤️ we love hearing similar experiences from others and definitely feel it was the right decision!
Glad you’re still liking Edinburgh after all these years. Quick correction from a born and bred Edinburgher: *12 months! It’s the unreliability. If only we could have 3 months every year of reliable, warm, sunny weather. But at 55°N and right in the face of the Atlantic Ocean jet stream, that was never going to happen, alas.
Welcome to the UK😊 Wishing you and your family a very happy life in Scotland. Best wishes from Cardiff Wales ❤🎉

Thanks so much for joining us on this incredible journey! I (Annie) was raised in a military family as well and completely understand the lifestyle. I think that's why moving overseas felt like a viable and exciting option. Maine is absolutely beautiful as well though. We look forward to sharing all that you've asked about in future videos...starting with the home buying process!
I understand that the UK has a shortage of vets at the moment as a lot EU vets left after Brexit. I think it has affected the farmers as well as the food industry
