- Is Washing Rice Necessary When You're Making Sushi? I have a lot of my viewers ask me about washing rice, how many times they should rinse the rice, and why it's necessary. In this video, I'll answer all of those questions and explain why it's important to wash your sushi rice every time.
3 Minutes of Sushi is a new type of video format that I'm trying out. These will be short videos (approx. 3 minutes in length) that will cover some interesting facts and answer common questions about making sushi at home.

Thanks to share this. You explain really clear 👍. Enjoy watching your video's and of course i did subscribe 😉
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!!! You know, after hours of rice washing you start to wonder if it's really necessary. I try to cook it once without washing it, and nothing happened, so I guess that rice came really clean.
Thanks for mentioning the extra starch for sticky rice debacle. Keep up the vidz!
Thanks, I will!
Thanks. I only did sushi rice once because it took me ages to wash it until only clear water came out. Now I know I can get by with less
I got lazy with washing my rice. Need to get back into it. Any comments on how washing, or not effects other kinds of rice? How about showing the difference between washed and unwashed rice in a follow up video?
Rice is proceeded better these days so really thorough washing isnt usually necessary. You definitely don’t want to over wash rice though and accidentally break the grains
I am a beginner in sushi making and my sushi sometimes comes out all squished after cutting it. is there a way to fix this?
Yes. You are likely applying too much downwards pressure on the knife while you're cutting. Or you could be pressing your fingers into the sushi too much while holding it in place. My suggestion is to use a sharper knife and instead of pressing down, use more of a sawing motion and let the weight of the knife carry it from the top of the roll down to the cutting board.
Secrets of Sushi thanks!
People complaining about washing away nutrients in sushi rice when there were none there to begin with hahaha. It’s basically candy rice
Well :29 and I’m outa here. Answer: yes, so don’t need to hear more ‘cause I do wash my rice...
Good for you! Have you seen my video on seasoning sushi rice?
