I'll Sleep When You're Dead was the first El-P album I bought back when it first came out. I can't remember why or how I even came across it, but my god the music and production has held up amazingly 15 years later.
I was fortunate to catch El-P on tour for ISWYD with Mr. Dibbs on the wheels. He came out dressed in the oranges from this video with the fake blood, smoking a cig.. tore the place down. Legend.

That's the gist but if you go to rap genius you can find the rest in more detail.
Archie Gayle Since i wrote the first message i indeed made a research about it. Yet there's nothing 'profound' about the song. It's simply the truth of his life in an exceptional lyrical performance. If there's something profound with him, its the way he binds words with seemingly no correlation to each other to form out a great line.

I don't think he sacrificed anything for Run The Jewels because it's a different act, and he is probably in a different mindset when he writes and produces that stuff. I'm sure if he made another solo record, it would be grimier, grittier and more unsettling than RTJ.
i wanted to see where el would head if he were to do a "solo" album where he had his style grow at the same level from TPC to ISWYD. the direction he's going with Killer Mike is fire but i didn't usually go to el for the double timed style. his internal rhyme scheme and off beat beats have been compromised. it's good, but not the initial reason why i dig his solo shit.
I agree. RTJ is really cool, but it would be a shame if he would not go back and make some Solo stuff. I think it is usually really interesting when you can hear how the experience of a collaboration project influences an artists solo work.
I really liked when Aesop rock (My other favourite rapper) did all those projects (Hail Hary Mallon, The Uncluded) and then went back to his solo albums in between. You could really hear how the projects influenced his own style.
