My problem with people jumping into Cold Steel 3 is: 1) you will miss sooooo much knowledge about returning characters, intricacies about the past stories in each game (which AREN’T in the backstory menu) 2) you lose the ability to play the previous amazing games without knowing what will happen. Zero and Azure in particular are directly linked to Cold Steel, and it’s so much better to play them first (or after Cold Steel 2, like I did)
I never EVER want to be on the side of "Don't play this game unless you can play 7 other games right now." The reason i say that is because I believe that we need sales and new fans to keep this series going in the west. I think it's unfair to make people intimidated by past games. They can still be awesome games to play AFTER cold steel 3. They would enlighten you in crazy ways while still being great experiences in their own right, and enhance how you feel about cold steel 3. That being said, if you want to play the old games then by all means, i recommend them highly. But to those worried about for instance, getting zero and azure easily, I haven't played the duology myself and I still loved every second of my time with cold steel 3 :).
Great review. I would have you know that, due to the suggestions of you and of creators such as you, I am playing through from the beginning. I just started Second Chapter today and have CS 1-3 with a preorder on 4. I also will use the geofront localizations of the crossbell duology when I'm done with Sky. It seems to be a hell of a job that you guys have done there. Thanks so much for both your YT content and for your work with geofront. You rock, Scott.
My friend, congratulations on the quality of the analysis and thanks for the video! I want to play 1 and 2 on PS4 and 3 and 4 on Switch. My question is: Is carrying the previous game's choices on a save from one game to the next relevant? Does it change the story and relationships a lot?
Im sure you already find the answer, but: 1. No, CS3 considered as "new arc" so save data not carried from CS2, but CS4 will obviously need CS3 cleared save data 2. Future epilogue saga Trails of Reverie will also need cleared save data from CS3&4 and Zero+Azure Exception if you bought PS5 version, you automatically have all bonus save data
I'm nearing my time to play this. I kept almost playing the series but kept hearing it being dropped from translation I've held back. When I heard Cold Steel 4 coming I finally dusted off all the copies I bought and a year ago became that mad man playing them all back to back. I just finished Trails of Azure today and am so excited to move to Cold Steel III. But I'll probably take a break to cleanse my palette. But in the mean time I'm watching and diving into the deep lore I didn't go into as much as I should have. As one of the mobile people I have to echo I love that it got ported to Switch. I can play through a game so much faster and easier with portable since I can pick up and put down for 15 minute increments which works so much better with my life. I'm glad to hear its a decent port and am shocked and over the moon that they added high speed mode. I figured it would be impossible. Thanks for your videos they are great for prepping for this major event!
I just played trails of cold steel series 2 weeks ago, the first one ended in major cliff hanger I went and download the second immediately and the second game so far did not dissappoint and a much better paced gameplay wise. Played them on vita by the way. Will buy this on switch after I finish second
I use a pretty high spec gaming laptop, and specifically that harbor in Crossbell City also had the same effect for my PC game haha. I don't think it's switch exclusive.
I'm about to start this, and only play Switch handheld so I'm glad that works well. While the Trails sub-series of the Legend of Heroes series is great I wish the earlier The Legends of Heroes games got more love in the west. WIth one exception, Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes I, I own every pre-Trails Legend of Heroes game released in the US, and I've beaten every pre-Trails The Legend of Heroes game released in the US including the original (A childhood friend whose house I slept over at regularly owned the game and a TG16). My biggest Falcom related wish is that they re-release the older Legend of Heroes games in the US, and bring the second game over this time.
Buying this game for the third time love me some Falcom games I still want the crossbell games on ps4 and pc to get localized by xseed or nisa and maybe even the sky trilogy on the ps4 and switch
I'm nearing the end of TOCS 2 and I was debating on whether I was going to hop into TOCS 3 on the PS 4 or Switch. I think I'll play the demo for both versions and see which one feels more comfortable for me to play before I make a choice
If you're, say, playing through the first one on ps4 for the first time, and skipping to the third on the switch(especially if you don't intend on doing blind playthrough of the switch version since that can't stream) simultaneously, would that be bad?(for lack of a better term lol)
I don't think there's anything snobbish about noting that a game doesn't look nearly as good at 720p with its textures reduced as it does 1080p, 1800p, or on PC. It's common sense.
I love this game so much, but my God does it crash a lot. I'm currently is Ordis, and I can't get into some buildings without it crashing. It crashed twice in Crossbell, and once in Saint Arkh. Ive put the game on hold until some issues are fixed, and I'm waiting for an update.
The CPU update has been shown to not make a difference on the switch. It's just a more power effiocient chip that makes it a whole lot harder to do hardware level hacks.
Good review, Scott! It's great to hear that performance is pretty good, as I was worried about loading times. I think UI resolution and text size is a general problem in most of gaming nowadays, but still unfortunate. But now we can play Cold Steel III anywhere which is the best!
Wayback in 2016 I played and finished TOCS1 and 2 in my Vita and I had no problem with that. Graphics or fps didn't matter on this. It's the story and all 😁
It sounds like if they had just scaled up the text size and UI, this would’ve been an almost perfect port IMO! We all knew the resolution would take a hit, but compared to the Vita versions of 1 and 2, it’s like night and day. I’ve been playing on PC, but I would’ve loved a portable version tbh (just couldn’t wait that long!)
I don't have enough money to buy a PS4 (consoles can get pretty expensive here in México sometimes) so im just really happy I can play this game on my switch, of course I would prefer to play it in a better console or even PC but after waiting like 2 years for the game to finally como overseas I'm really happy i can finally play it
@@KillScottKill I was referring to the ones you mentioned on your PC review for example the change from "The Almighty Conflagration" on PS4 to "The Blazing Demon" on PC. I don't know if they are translations errors or no, but since English is not my native language, I don't know how else to call it.
Yeah Sankt is a huge CPU bottleneck. My PC can't do that at a locked 60 fps during the festival even at low settings when it can run the rest of the game at 4K 60 on high.
If you want to play the game on the go, just play the PS4 version via remote play on your Vita. It doesn't only look far better (especially on the OLED Vita), but also at smooth 60 fps.
I don't consider being tethered to an internet connection to be portable play. Not everyone has unlimited mobile data, freely available hotspots, or heck even a good internet connection. Besides even on a 100 mbit connection I still had a ton of dropped connection errors both on my vita and laptop.
Tho he'd be another sword fighter, they should add ream to smash, or elliot to have someone compete with palentuna and her staff (only currently blindly live streaming me playing the first now, so that's the only one I'm familiar with)

And why is just CS3 on switch and not 1+2? I think XSEED still has the rights for all of them(?), so no hope there ;( you have any insight Scott? :O
i tend to play games like firemblem and and this sparks my interest me to it because of similar features from what i can see this also reminds me of iron-bloded orphan
Honestly this is not the type of game where a lower fidelity or some degree of performance hitching is even all that much of a factor. In an ideal scenario none of that would be happening, of course, but I can't claim to be bothered by it.
I'd get it for PC, but mine is the kind of Museum piece that had trouble running games like DB Xenoverse 2 and Total War Warhammer at low/minimum settings, so the Switch version running well is great news form me, and I've never concerned myself with graphics too much anyways. I just hope my PC can run CS1 and 2 reasonably well.....

Why does everyone always say games look bad in docked mode. They look just fine as long as you're not a snob who plays everything in 4k at 120 fps.
well some are just graphics nerd who always focus on details
