For crying out loud, I just started with a company that is supposedly one of the best in town, and they teach us a couple of different scripts at the door. BUT, they never specifically said DO NOT use free inspection as a pitch. Like any roofing company should be screaming from the rooftops (pun intended) “never ever use free inspection” as an opening pitch! And I’ve been using this crap wondering why my take rate at the door is in the teens! Friggin gold, Adam!
First off - THANK YOU for the comment. Second of all - don't demonize yourself or the company. It took me a long time to figure this one out. All of the mainstream teachings are 100% focused on jumping right into a free inspection with the false hope of getting inspections - fast. @@TheRoofStrategist for sure it had me laughing because I was like, "yes I've seen all of these" and also I watched the SLAP video before a few days ago so that tied back in nicely. Thanks for the informative videos by the way. I'm doing this(door to door) for the first time as it's something I always wanted to try. I Signed and filed today for the first time. After 1.5 months. I've been trying to keep this stuff in mind while I interacted with every one. Trying to stray from the cringy "HEY FREE INSPECTION" method and actually interact with people and build value. I don't and never have liked the idea of the sleezy salesman who scams or pushes people to buy x product. I'd like to make things natural.
This is old but I'm starting out and in my neighborhood there are several damaged roofs. Shingles are missing so I figured that's a perfect opportunity to pitch to them.
You're so freaking solid dude, I'm in solar but I always find myself watching your videos for tips / tricks. You're gonna realllly take off one day, keep it up
*super excited to try these tomorrow! i'm new to canvassing (remodeling company). the pitch they trained me on was exactly this & it's failing. so this is excellent advice!*
The best response is to say, "Hey I can totally respect that and I would hope my customers would also be loyal to me so that is awesome. I would also respect someone who got a second opinion or a competitive bid as well!" That way you know that the roofer you are loyal to is giving you the best deal possible!" Nothing wrong with getting the best price possible right?
As a real estate broker, I am considering taking on a roof sales business and help to build my real estate sphere! I think all of your advice is amazing in many ways and I can use these tactics to help earn the trust of homeowners to buy or sell their homes. Can we say double dip?
Adam, it is simply impossible for the average homeowner to know whether or not they have hail or wind damaged, premature wear, manufacturing defects, damage from trees, squirrels, etc unless they have had an inspection from a qualified roof inspector that they Trust. Keywords being qualified and trusted! You have to remember that in Florida we cannot bait or our customers into taking an inspection because of hail or wind or insurance claim. We must push that they haven't gotten an inspection recently or from a trusted qualified inspector. Or that their roof is old and it needs to be inspected and an estimated for re-roofing so that the homeowner knows what kind of expense they are looking at.
Hey Tracy, you bring up very valid points. Regarding Flordida -- certain aspects of the law (pertaining to communication and outreach about roof damage) was deemed unconstitutional and there is an injunction against that aspect of the bill. Watch this video if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/XBzeIucw3Wc/видео.html
@@TheRoofStrategist adam, my understanding about that injunction had to do with the unconstitutional nature of offering free estimates and free inspections. I don't believe that that had anything to do with baiting a customer with possible hail damage or wind damage or other damage to make a claim to get a new roof for just the cost of their deductible. I believe that sort of approach is still deemed unlawful in the state of Florida. That being said I don't agree with it that part also is unconstitutional! Freedom of speech is still freedom of speech! You may not like what someone has to say you don't have to believe what someone says has to say. But no matter what they have the right to say it if they have justifiable grounds to say it. If they don't have the damage on their roof to justify the claim then making the claim then becomes an unlawful act. But if in fact they do have damage then there's nothing wrong with making that claim. It's all very simple! They're just trying to make it as complicated as they can to justify means to an end!
Great question, Avi! Easy peasy. I teach this in my CANVASSING Strategy -- when you are first (or fresh) in a neighborhood, just say, "Hey I'm speaking with neighbors here on STREET NAME." The goal is to make it as familiar as possible. Then, after you have a few convos you can start name dropping and pointing. But the point is to be authentic, real and truthful. The truth is, you are talking to people on their street. See the difference? Hope this answers your question. If not, fire away with more!
I just say we're working with some of your neighbors and vaguely lift my pointed arm in a general direction. Sometimes I have to not laugh when I follow their gaze towards nothing in particular.🤣🤣🤣
Don’t reference any neighbor. We all know that is a sales tactic that never seems genuine. I will dismiss every sales person that references a neighbor.
But what do you say when you haven't talked to any of the neighbors yet? How do you pitch to the first person in the neighborhood that answers the door?
You know most of his videos are interesting. However, in this video he did not give enough variety of examples because there's not always going to be a situation where a storm just hit the neighborhood and then you use that as your pitch. How would you pitch if the weather's been fine and there has been no storm damage to people's roofs?
#1 why would you stop at a roof if you can't see it? I only stop at roofs that I can see that the valley is shot or shingles curled or if your in a hail area
Great question. And I like how you are efficient with your time and targeting! If you're in a hail/wind area and the neighboring houses are hit, then it makes sense to stop. But not all roofs are the same age, material, damage prone etc. Sometimes the damage is minor and you aren't going to know how bad it is until you get up there.
I mean, that’s true and not true. If you get to a point and your content to sit there then your operating off your referrals and you just wanted to make enough money to feel comfortable.
⚠️ Don’t reference any neighbor. We all know that is a sales tactic that never seems genuine. I will dismiss every sales person that references a neighbor.
Hmmm.... Don't reference any neighbor? I couldn't disagree more. I always mention the ACTUAL neighbors I'm working with. Unfortunately, slimy sales people make this stuff up. I don't and do not condone that.
Some good thoughts here although the 57% is far from a justified statistical analysis. You can’t say 57% of homeowners when you’re just talking about these made up emotional states. I would highly doubt that all customers in the world are equally distributed with one of the seven emotional states he talked about in the video. If a roofer showed up at my door and was throwing out numbers like that I probably would lose trust lol that being said I like most of this guy’s contact and will continue watching
Hey Ronald, you bring up a GREAT point. In fact, I would edit what I said in this video. You are right - all customers are not equally distributed among these 7 emotional states. It would be a better if I had stated that 57% applies to the majority of emotional states, not customer distribution. That being said, applying this to the real world, you'll find that these different mindsets seem to appear in trends based on the "storm cycle" or "psychology of the storm." You'll also find trends in particular neighborhoods (like working fringe areas vs ground zero etc). Hope this clarifies my intended message. Thank you for the thoughtful comment!
As a roofing salesman. I don't really understand why you're always talking about insurance claims. What about the other 99% of people. Are you only targeting areas that have experienced storm damage. Seems weird to me
Hey dude. Thanks for the comment. I do in fact work with retail roofing contractors. My system is being used by many high-volume retail companies. You are correct that a lot of my content here on RUclips touches on storm damaged roofs - because that is what drives a LARGE portion of the roofing industry and roofing market. For more videos on retail, check out this playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLZ20p_mXvgkXCxTv6QowZhTBbdPBYFOLn And I invite you to drop comments or questions with anything you'd like me to cover in future retail focused videos.
Good video, but you probably shouldn't broadcast trade secrets on how to get more sales to actual customers because then they know your tricks. I as a homeowner will now be even more skeptical if a contractor used your special techniques rather than the good ol' free roof inspection pitch.
Haha, watch to the end get a free copy, you had me interested in what you were saying until you broke your cardinal sin, don't give it way for FREE! MIGHT Wnt to cut that part out in an edit!
Clever catch there dude, but not sure if my advice applies in this scenario? In the video I teach that offering a FREE service to someone with an UNKOWN problem won't work. I am providing FREE Sales Training for people who are watching my videos. This is a very different offer than what I mention in the video when it comes to knocking doors.
Having a great business that focuses on quality and professionalism you will never have to knock doors to even start any kind of lame pitch. They call you!
Do any of your videos NOT include insurance claims? Seems like that's your only power. Let's go out and close homeowners without insurance claims. I guarantee you would fold against me or any of the reps I have developed over the years.
It is 100% free. The offer you saw is AFTER you download it, and for a program of mine. Check your inbox and you'll see the FREE Pitch Like a Pro Video Training Library. If you didn't see it, email me and I'll get ya taken care of.

I just say we're working with some of your neighbors and vaguely lift my pointed arm in a general direction. Sometimes I have to not laugh when I follow their gaze towards nothing in particular.🤣🤣🤣
@@dumbsmartofficial2976 🤣
@@dumbsmartofficial2976 haha i know. I kind of just wanted to see what other people do
Don’t reference any neighbor. We all know that is a sales tactic that never seems genuine. I will dismiss every sales person that references a neighbor.
But what do you say when you haven't talked to any of the neighbors yet? How do you pitch to the first person in the neighborhood that answers the door?
Ok. What if they say something like storm chasers? I do like this though most say no to the free inspection.
But what if it's a new neighborhood? What did you say to Peggy?
Always good info, Thanks Adam.
🙏 Wouldn't be able to do this without your support. Thank you for the comment!
Is there anyway to get a copy of the slides to print out as quick reference while on the job?
Actually, the most common response I get is that they have called the insurance company and they’re waiting on an adjuster.
Why my insurrance comp are saying Non-recovereable depreciation ? and they not covering
What do you do when you win your jobs or quotes? and do you need to be licensed or qualified to be in roofing sales
You know most of his videos are interesting. However, in this video he did not give enough variety of examples because there's not always going to be a situation where a storm just hit the neighborhood and then you use that as your pitch. How would you pitch if the weather's been fine and there has been no storm damage to people's roofs?
I want to do this how can I get started in the business to become a free lancer??
Love this
♥️💪🙏 Appreciate the comment. Glad to have you here!
Thank You!
It's my pleasure :) Glad to have you here!
Hi Adam! What's your preferred chewing tobacco?
nice job!
🙏
I realized this the 1st month going into roofing sales
the pitch is so useless. pitches are overrated
Great video but not something you can listen to on a road trip cuz you have to look at it like a show and tell in kindergarten
Well hold freaking on a minute you have a previous video saying do you object of doing a free inspection of your roof ?
If you are a good roofer you shouldn’t have to go door to door. Good roofers are booked. What’s your response to that?
GREAT question. Watch this video I did covering that objection :) ruclips.net/video/6LZu4LUQeQA/видео.html
I mean, that’s true and not true. If you get to a point and your content to sit there then your operating off your referrals and you just wanted to make enough money to feel comfortable.
Iam sow scared lol Iam gonna try it for first time tomorrow
Nerves are totally normal. You got this!
Thats only for door to door
🙄free inspection

Hmmm.... Don't reference any neighbor? I couldn't disagree more. I always mention the ACTUAL neighbors I'm working with. Unfortunately, slimy sales people make this stuff up. I don't and do not condone that.
go to 8:41 if you wanna skip the crap and go to where the thumbnail implies.
@@TheRoofStrategist that does add some context. Thanks!
@@ronaldobowlespie9406 You bet! Great feedback by the way. I appreciate your analytical thinking!
@@TheRoofStrategist thank you
Good video, but you probably shouldn't broadcast trade secrets on how to get more sales to actual customers because then they know your tricks. I as a homeowner will now be even more skeptical if a contractor used your special techniques rather than the good ol' free roof inspection pitch.
come on, don't be like that jack
What if your not leaving Peggys House
This just isn’t how roofing works, door knocking is pretty much essential

Do any of your videos NOT include insurance claims? Seems like that's your only power. Let's go out and close homeowners without insurance claims. I guarantee you would fold against me or any of the reps I have developed over the years.
Yes they do - you can check out my Retail playlist.
Try not to do videos right after lunch, you avoid the burbs.
not sure why you claim your book is free and then charge $297...
It is 100% free. The offer you saw is AFTER you download it, and for a program of mine. Check your inbox and you'll see the FREE Pitch Like a Pro Video Training Library. If you didn't see it, email me and I'll get ya taken care of.
