Not like it used to be! Honda HRV 2023 review (HR-V hybrid test)

- The last Honda HR-V wasn't as good as this one. But this one also isn't as good as the last one.
The reason I say that is because the previous version (Vezel in Japan) was a very practical small SUV. It had five seats (Magic Seats!) and a big boot, and it was all about usability and interior smarts.
This new one still has those Magic Seats - but is only a four seater, not a five-seat SUV. And it also has a MUCH smaller boot cargo capacity.
However, the new-gen model has hybrid technology, a lot more advanced safety gear, and it looks SPECTACULAR inside and out. But it costs a lot, and it only has four-star NCAP safety.
So is it going to be the right small SUV for you? That'll depend on what you need, want or expect from your compact crossover vehicle. Watch my detailed review for the pros and cons.

the HR V has surpassed everything Honda has done so far, in addition to a European and not only Asian design, finally a model that makes the competition B and C look back .. an evolution from scratch for me very well achieved, comfort, Honda quality, superb handling, extreme safety (Advance e:hev), a premium minimalist interior, hibrido with 131hp electric main engine, keyless entry, electric tailgate, blind spot warning, full led lights, 18" multimedia wheels 9 ", and 3 driving modes, Brack hold, fog lights, Magic Seat rear seats... even if you're not interested, a test drive at the dealership won't be a waste of time, cheers!
Excellent review 👏
Nice review ❤
Nice work 🎉
Nice video 💯
I want to love hybrids, but I've yet to see one that makes me want to buy it. Thank you for another great review.
You’re welcome! The only hybrid I’ve really ever wanted myself was a CR-Z manual hybrid. So cool.
I see Honda have the new ZRV in Australia. Would love to hear your review on it, say versus this HRV and the Corrolla cross hybrid.
Awesome information
Thanks!
Top spec Honda and no sunroof - things have changed.
Probably to limit the weight and be in European limits. Asian Honda HR-V have a sunroof as option
I need to order the front fog lights for this model. Can someone sent me part code or link. Thanks
Nice conversation
Amazing
I rented the non-hybryd version to drive cross country from Maryland to Colorado. I'm 6"7" and it was surprisingly comfortable and nice to drive.
The milage wasn't great though, I only averaged about 27 mpg mostly driving around 80mph on the interstate
this is a diifferent car to the US HRV
I would be willing consider the HRV except for the fact it is $47K. It is still reasonably priced I think for the entry level. Considering the equipment you get. I definitely prefer the interior of the HRV to the competition. At least they have tried something different.
I’d love to see a comparison of the HRV hybrid against the brand new Kona hybrid.
Here in the UK the entry level HR-V is $57,000 (£30,000) and the insurance cost is much higher than the Yaris Cross.
Awesome 😮😮😮😮
Good one
Very good
Pretty sure it has wireless Apple CarPlay?
I had a look at the next size up ZRV. Also no blind spot monitoring unless you buy the top spec. What the?? That’s an enormous fail considering you get that on most $10,000.00 cheaper Chinese SUVs.
" Has Traffic Sign Recognition" .. ?? Sorry, Old Man here .. isn't that the drivers job .. It seems that many new cars are increasingly being fitted with more autonomous features. Is this the pathway to fully autonomous over the next several years , as opposed to just introducing them straight up .. Thanks Matt .. Cheers
I like the look of it. I actually have a civic hybrid on order , yes I know it seems overpriced, but once I drove it, I realised for what it is, it’s a lovely car, so I’m willing to wait and pay that bit extra. Honda have come back to being higher quality, as they really dropped off in the recent civics. I know a lot of people won’t buy one because of the price, but drive one and you’ll change your mind I think. The hrv was ok to drive, but the civic and zrv definitely more worth it to me. If you could review them I’d love to know your opinion Matt.
Thanks Cath. I have driven Civic too - love the drive, but the price out me off a bit.
@@therightcarfair enough. Will you be doing a review on it at all??
Nice
As a former first Gen HRV owner. I like the way they went with the new HRV. A smaller footprint makes more sense now knowing that ZRV was on the way. The agency model has reduced their market share to basically nothing. Projected to be
Thanks Chris. I reckon you’re right - if only they’d made it clearer about their SUV lineup strategy when they launched this car, maybe it would have seen a different reaction.
Even so, four seats is a pain.
And I’m reviewing ZR-V next month. So stay tuned for that!
is the HRV you reviewed in the video a white or opal colour? I'm thinking of ordering one! :)
It’s the opal colour. Hard for it to come through on video but it looks more bluey-pearly in person.
Thanks for your help! I was a bit confused looking at opal / white colour on the Honda website.@@therightcar
Best brand
Amazing good Honda car❤❤❤
why dont they put the usb ports by the door. it ruins the orderliness of the dashboard area. when theres wire dangling
It’s a good question. But why would you put it in the door if the dash is an option?
Hi would you mind doing a Honda HRV petrol version review please?
I don’t think I can - but I can tell you that if you are okay with the car missing some features and having a bit of a bumpy ride, it’s a good thing!
Thank you for the feedback!@@therightcar
It has got wireless apple car play . Android auto is wired. You can get a wireless charger as option
There is wireless android auto as well you just have to enable it manually at first
Good
Good brand
Great review
You are correct: Honda hrv looks great however it’s bit pricey
Especially CVT transmission and 4 seater with limited boot size..
I would like to check other brands like Toyota, Subaru etc
Thanks Dennis! Toyota has the Corolla Cross which is similarly priced and more practical. The Subaru Crosstrek isn’t as impressive.
Buteful white car
I think you should mention that if you don't have blind spot monitoring you are automatically capped at 4 stars with ANCAP and its not a reflection on Adult Occupant Protection or Child Occupant Protection
Same for the lack of airbag between front seats
This is completely incorrect. Blind spot monitoring is not part of the ANCAP test criteria that counts for points. And there is absolutely no “automatic” cap at four stars for not having it.
@@iBlogGadget there is for the lack of airbags between front seats
@@iBlogGadget Since 2018, all cars are assessed under four key areas: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Safety Assist. Car gets a percentage score for each category. The overall star rating of a vehicle is limited by the lowest score it receives for a category.
To achieve five stars, a car must receive a score of 80 per cent or higher in Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection, 60 per cent or higher in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 70 per cent or higher in Safety Assist. An example is the Hyundai Venue, which received scores above the five-star threshold in all but the Safety Assist category. As it only received a score equivalent to four stars in Safety Assist, the overall score for the car was four stars. (Hence capped) and blind spot monitoring is assessed under the LSS (lane support systems)
Honda has lost it.. They are deluded to think it will fetch this price!
❤❤❤
Nice looking car but you are right, pricey & 4 star only these days seems not acceptable…..🤔
Yep. It would be more enticing if it was a littttttle bit cheaper
👌
Best small SUV for me is any other that has a regular 6 or 8 speed automatic, especially if it is used offroad.
Fair point. CVTs aren’t terrific for off-road stuff.
@@therightcaruhhh, Subaru have tried and true CVTs going off-road in the US. there’s a Wilderness edition for a reason. Sure it’s got a transmission cooler but it’s still a CVT capable of off-road use.
👍👍
Honda❤
Honda so nice price
This 'HR-V' is a ZR-V in the rest of the world, in Europe an Asia You still find a, new, HR-V/Vezel Hybrid(based on the Jazz/Fit), much nicer than this ZR-V (made in China)
This one is based on the Civic, with CR-V rear suspension.
Way too noisy which makes it a deal breaker for me.
❤😂🎉
Corolla cross is ugly
At 18 months to 2 yrs for a Toyota and then you have to accept whatever they offer, then the Toyota is a poor choice and in my opinion. The Toyota interior is a plastic haven which scratches easily. Oh and Toyota have gone to 95 Ron as fuel spec minimum.
❤😂🎉❤🎉❤😂
I can see why Honda sales have plummeted, Way overpriced for what you get. CVT Eeeek, and that body coloured grill doesn't look good.
You realize it's your opinion based on your taste, right?
@@BigBrotharYes opinion's vary that's mine 😊
Not CVT.
@@johnwilson3842 yes it's E-CVT, not a gearbox but an electric motor with fake gear changes
Looks like the designer forgot about the rear end, it look half arsed…..
A 4 SEATER????? Honda Australia.... Why?
No Full size spare wheel..
And way way overpriced....
Honda Australia ..you have done it again..trying to kill the Honda brand in Australia.
Honda Australia...are you going to bring the Honda Jazz back to Australia.
Hi John. No, the Jazz is done and dusted.
4 seats suits me perfect. Id be willing to bet 99% of people driving are only using 1 seat 99% of the time.
Honda being lazy, all have the 60 split on the kerb side
And the Hybrid are pricey 🥵
Toyota better value but the wait times is 🤯
this car is 5 seats not 4 wtf are you talking about?
It’s four seats in Australia, champion.
Dr Ofenmu's RUclips channel is great . He has been very attentive to my health issues . I have had complicated health problems and he has addressed them all . He is very kind and patient . I am very grateful for him..
That’s great to know.
Who cares!
Hondas have gone down in quality.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How? I don't see the lack of quality in this video
@@BigBrothar This Kenneth knows as much about Honda's as he does about oil mills... I'd accept it if it was an answer given by Stevie Wonder and I'd even forgive him... but this Kenneth is a geek
Can be considered but again, overpriced
It's an ugly design and CVTS
Agreed, the design from the b-pillar back isn't very nice.
All reviewers are enjoying the design clowns (it's not because you have bad taste that it's an ugly design, it's just your ugly taste), plus the E-CVT isn't a cvt
Amazing
Thanks
Good
