I left home in 2009 and I haven’t been back since. I’ve watched many videos with people driving around the island just to ease my homesickness. This video definitely put a smile on my face.

I am first generation born on mainland US, but my roots go back to 1819 in St. Croix. I feel so connected to this island and I loved this video~ 💕
Thank you very much for watching. 👍That is some amazing history you have. I've travel to so many places but nothing comes close to returning to the island we call home . I was hoping to do an update to this video this past July but Covid-19 forced me to cancel my trip.
Oh I miss the island... I wanna head back to Shanay (or shanae) Bay, go do some snorkeling, and the Tide Pools, the hike is worth it. And then you got Castaways, Cheeseburgers in Paradise, Angry Nate’s, etc. The food is great! Good thing I’m heading back there this Summer, I miss St. Croix Jiu Jitsu too, that was my class, that I want to be a part of again. Of course the hurricanes sucked, I was there when that happened, but after everything, I miss the place. I wanna see my Mom, Stepdad, my island friends, my Mom’s and Stepdads friends, and Grateful Dave! Those are wonderful people. I miss the beautiful blue water, and the colorful coral reefs, I miss the clear skies and the bright green trees, I miss the kind people I’d meet and greet, I miss the perfect weather, where the sun would shine. This place is cherished, and is in a special place in my heart.
It sucks when everything that is special to you is back home. I feel the same. 😢😢

As a child I used to live in Williams Delight and my uncle used to race cars at the track. I miss the fish fry ,thank you,best tour ever of st.croix on utube.
I really like this. It's not all overly built up, country looking roads. Lovin' it.

Relocating and starting life in a new environment is always nerve-racking or scary. It's a beautiful island with no season changes some hurricanes, a slower lifestyle with a fair share of issues but overall, very nice people and different culture. I suggest you take a couple of trips to get an idea of what life will be like and when there, go out to the events and talk to the people. Thanks for watching and good luck to you both.👍😎

I recently visited St Croix to see some friends. Loved it but it was a short trip during rainy season so didn’t get to see much. Thanks for posting.

Well, I miss the fish-fry at Fisher's St. and the Cruzian Christmas Fiesta and Coney Island. I studied at Claude O' Markoe and Central High School in the 80's. There was also a Driving Theatre.
Awesome video! I was down there for 4 months helping to restore power after Irma and Maria... I loved it there... And everyone was amazing... I can't wait to go back

I was there too when it happened, it was bad at first, but got great after a few months.
I owe a visit to this beautiful island, my paternal grandfather was born there ( Frederiksted), I want to show it to my children.
Absolutely a must trip for you and the kids. I did it with my daughter and she loved it. It was nice to show her all the great things the island has offer it was especially touching to see her pick the different fruits from the trees an experience she just doesn't get while living in a big city.

Thanks for the video. Different from St. Thomas. More of an island vibe. The vegetation seems to be different in some parts. It seems that much more money was invested in St. Thomas. I wonder why.
Thank you for watching. Its been that way for decades when it comes to distribution of money to all 3 islands which leaves many people asking why the gross neglect of St.Croix. Growing up on St.Croix, I used to hear my parents mentioned it as well but I truly love all 3 islands despite I've only been to St.Thomas and of course, St.Croix.
@@nextgenaviation24 The reason that St. Thomas has historically seen more commercial activity than St. Thomas is because St. Thomas had the deepwater port at Charlotte Amalie that accomodated cruise ships. That was a very powerful economic engine that St. Croix did not enjoy until the long pier was built in Fredericksted in the 1960's. that could accommodate most of the cruise ships back then. My father, John Moore was Assistant Commissioner of Public Works for St. Croix and was responsible for overseeing the construction of that pier. He was appointed by the Governor who was appointed by President Kennedy. Back then, the governor of the US Virgin Islands was appointed, not elected as done now. At that time, tourism fueled the commercial activity in St. Thomas and agriculture, sugarcane and rum distilling were important activities in St. Croix. When I lived there in the 1950's, St. John was an uninhabited island.
St Croix has a shallow harbor. No cruise ships. St. Thomas on the other hand might have up to 5 cruise ships in one day. St. Croix is the BIG ISLAND with half the population of St Thomas.
St. Croix is known as the Bread Basket of the Caribbean. We have been pretty much self reliant. It has NOTHING to do with the deep port of St. Thomas. Before Hugo 1989 we were on equal footing with St. Thomas and on the verge of surpassing them. We had The NY Yankees and Boston Red Sox playing at Paul E Joseph Stadium in the 1960s, movies (Trading Places and a shout out by Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop), television programs (Miami Vice, All My Children, Good Morning America and Greatest American Hero), music videos (Fat Boys), more lined up including Sinbad set to have a comedy special with Earth Wind and Fire. How I know this, I am from Twin City and was there when ALL that took place except for the Yankees/Red Sox. Hugo gave St.Thomas the opportunity to build themselves at the expense of St.Croix being nearly destroyed by Hugo. St. Thomas thinks about ONLY St.Thomas because they are afraid St. Croix will be better than them. That is the reason why. @bobmoore4283 how is it you were on St. Croix in the 1950s and think St. John was never an inhabited island. The Rockerfellers stole the land deeds from the people and gave it to the Feds then it became a national park to prevent those people from reclaiming their land. I am Crucian and I have NEVER heard anyone say St. John had no one living there during that period of time and that includes family members who are VI historians. @pamelaannis715, St. Croix's population has ALWAYS been higher than St.Thomas. Just did a quick check STX population is 50,000 to STT 42,000. Don't speak on things that you know nothing about.
It’s very interesting how in the Virgin Islands traffic drives on the left however seemingly all vehicles are LHD. Are there any RHD cars in St. Croix?
Unless someone ships in a RHD car all vehicles are LHD. All the years of visitng and renting vehicles I never come across any RHD cars even when I lived there.
@@nextgenaviation24 - when I was a child, born and partly raised in St. Croix, one of my teachers had a blue Ford where the driver's side was on the right. That was in the '80s.

I have an older corvette. I couldn't tell whether there were too many potholes for my car. What are your thoughts?
When I was visiting, the roads appeared to be badly neglected. A matter of fact, the car we rented needed repairs from the pot holes that we accidentally hit.😔 I'm not sure if any improvements was done since.

Savannah, if you bring the corvette; drive slow! The potholes are no joke, some roads are only passable with suv's. People do have nice cars there but most have a rugged daily ride. Hope you make it there! 😎🌴🌞

I don't believe they do but right next to baggage claim is the taxi stand you should have no problems getting one.

Great video! I was on St Croix in '71. Rented a dune buggy in Christiansted and spent several days driving every road I could find. My favorite way across the island was the Scenic Rd. Also flew the Goose to St. Thomas and back. And it still looks beautiful! Thanks!

Ah!! I miss my birthplace so much! I don't even know some of the places that you drove to. I was born in Christiansted but, mostly grew up in Frederiksted in Canebreak. The last time I was in St. Crois, I was 11 or 12. My mother moved me to the sates when I was 7 to live with (some) other relatives that moved from St. Croix. Thanks for the memories.
Our story seems to be very similar. My mom also moved me to the states when I was 10 to live with siblings. I suffered thru so much home sickness. When I was old enough. I would fly home as much as I could which became a treat and still is. I'd rent a car and just drive the island this is how I discovered areas I never knew existed. Thanks for watching👍👍

I have to agree. It's such a small islands that she knows my family. She even allowed me to bring the kids to use the pool so, I'm forever greatful. Her cottage is now my spot for everytime I go back. Glad you liked the video.👍👍👍
Hoping to move there from Texas (we have oil too) as the Operations positions at the refinery open. I intend to vlog as to encourage the people here in Dallas to visit. It will be part of the US that they've not seen. Also, I support small business owner versus the box stores so I hope to increase the flow for a lot of citizens. I'll keep you posted. I probably need a recommendation of an airBNB or place that is affordable to stay the first few weeks while a find a simple apartment, or room to rent. - One for an early riser who's go to bed early
Thank you for watching. Most people will visit St. Thomas and never give it a second thought to hop on a plane and spend the day on the island. I'm glad the refinery reopened and you're planning to move there. I'm sure you're gonna love your new home. I have family on the island but since I brought a friend down with me we stayed at an Air B & B which I highly recommend. Let me know when you're going so I can get you the contact number for the property owner and yes keep me posted. The cost of goods from the supermarket and other stores are very high almost like Hawaii so, on your initial move you may want to ship a few boxes of toiletries, detergent and whatever you can think of to hold you over. The people are very nice so you shouldn't have any issues making new friends. I plan to return in July 2020 for a few days. Many blessings to you.
