Thanks for the trip, it brought back a lot of memories. I worked in that refinery for 33 years (HOVIC and Hovensa) but retired before it went belly up. I drove all those roads for approximately 34 years so you can understand why it brings back memories. It is a past page and most of my life really but i knew that the world is bigger than we think it is so i turned the leaf. Stay safe.
My grand father on my mothers side was second in command at the Hess oil refinery back when it was built. It was closed for about 5 years, and now they are going to restart it, but only about 1/3 of it's original capacity of 500 thousand BPD. The way things are going with the virus driving oil prices down, it could close down again in the not so distant future. I say the world as we know it is going to change drastically really fast!!!! I see nothing but faltering economies and war in the not so distant future, lot of food shortages coming that will be the trigger that sets off the domino effect...
born and raised in St. Croix, back then Hess Oil and Martin Marietta where the two biggest jobs to have on the island. would like to see some videos of Diamond Ruby, Estate Strawberry, Pepper Tree Terrace along with the Sunny Isle areas.
So just watching this for the first time. Digging it. You just passed the back side of Hess Camp, and you mentioned that you used to hang out in the recreation center, we called it the Rec Hall. You just passed my old trailer too (where it was anyway). When did you hang out there? If you were there from 75-77 I probably kicked your butt on the pool table 😂
Thanks for the video. Do you have any of Sunny isles? Years ago they used to put up Christmas lights, do you guys still do that? That would be nice to see especially if you could drive around there when it's a little dark to see the lights better
@@cruzanmongoose thanks for getting back to me and getting back to me so quickly. I was really hoping to see, you know the Christmas lights in Sunny isles if they had them up. Do they still do that? do you guys still do that? And, can you actually drive through Sunny isles in the parking lots? From KFC to the end where the grocery store used tobe. That would be so nice thanks.
@@ahhthenohh Lot less Christmas lights now days, a lot less.. I would say like ten percent of what it used to be in the 70's 80's Sunny Isle is more or less the same as it was in the past.. It's at like 18 minutes into that video link I sent you.. You should see La Reine, looks like it should be in a third world country, mall all dilapidated, parking lot full of pot holes, only two businesses in the mall now Pueblo and Buster electronics.. I'll see if I can film Sunny Isle Have good night Ire Ites
@@cruzanmongoose Mr Mongoose sir, you have once again answered me right away thank you thank you thank you thank you. And thank you so much for being willing to re-film Sunny isles for me. If you can also play some music while you're feeling that would be cool, thank you!
Because the parents of most of the kids that went there worked for Hovensa the oil refinery, and when the oil refinery closed good hope school didn't have enough students enrolled in the school so they closed and merged with Country day school.

@@ahhthenohh Ire mon. did you see my hike around the coast of ST Croix??
Hello,
It's almost a year since I asked you about Sunny Isles. Anyway, are the lights up this year?
Not sure haven't been by Sunny Isle at night for awhile, all in all less people putting up Christmas lights, gets less every year.
the light would have been or used to be connected to the huge Sunny Isles sign. One big light for the whole mall
Why did the Good Hope School close?

He dodged the pothole!!!

Left is better than right, the driver is on the edge of the road, passenger is on the shotgun side lol
Thank you China! 🇨🇳
China? lol
What does China have to to with St Croix?
