I very much like the friendly way you all play: allowing moves to be readjusted to be more optimal and pointing out ways you can get more points to each other.

@@GamingRulesVideos I think it's great. I prefer it when everyone is just trying to get their best score, and competition is secondary.

Another great playthrough. Three players with Nick and Gemma are always good viewing. Loving these games very attractive and interesting mechanics. I'm definitely going to be getting these when they come out.

Even though the Kickstarter was handle extremely poorly, I'm still very excited to get these first two games.

The tweaks look amazing! I have played (and nearly always lost) Macao many many times!

I love the differences I am seeing. I just played Macao today, which I love, and it makes me even more excited for this version. I love the different districts, the cube costs are less for goods, the rewards for delivering are greater, carrying over a cube when you want would be extremely helpful. That makes it a bit more strategic while not losing the fun luck of the dice. The rondels are more functional. I like that the pressure is greater as the penalties are worse. I can't wait for my copy. I regretted not backing this, but I have it preordered with Hamburg now. Feld makes magnificent games with unique gameplay. The cube system with the dice is just brilliant.

Finally played my own copy of Amsterdam this weekend. Enjoyed it a lot. Very puzzly with the cube selection and harbour movement. Think thats why I enjoy a lot of Feld's games; they often gives you wonderful puzzles to work out.
Some observations from your playthough @Gaming Rules! :
    1. Gemma got her 'get a move on the Amstel Canal when taking pssossion of a building' card in round 7. She used it in R7; forgot it in R8 (which was important, as she would have taken over Nick's 2nd place); took no possession in R9; forgot to use it in R10; used it again in R11 and did not take possession in R11. So Gemma's frustrations with Nick picking what she wanted could maybe have been avoided; but 1st or 2nd game and lots of cards and things going on, so honest mistake.
    2. Paul end game scoring card cheating was actually, that he took 1 point in R10, 6 points each in R11 and R12, so 13 points in total. He should then have had 7 points for endgame scoring, so should really just have moved back 6 spaces instead of 12 (went up 1 and then 6+6+1 back). Nick still wins and I thought you handled that mistake brilliantly and in good spirits (can I join your playing group if I ever move to England? :) ).
    3. Paul did cheat proper in R12 though, as he took possession of a building twice. First with a black cube and then with his 'pay 2 Gulden for a possession' card. You can't use that card to get a second possession; it says so in the addendum, but not on the card text.
    4. Gemma should have got 1 Gulden for picking up a dockworker in R9, but don't think it mattered much.
    5. In R11 both Paul and Nick not picking up the brown dock worker from the white dock just shows, that there is a lot going on. ;)
    6. In R10 Nick went full dock worker taxi in the harbour. That happend in my game too, where I was in position to do it and I also ended up winning the game, so my groupthink brain already thinks, that that might be a key factor in a game of Amsterdam. It felt a bit wonky, that I just went all over the harbour in one turn picking up and dropping of workers and goods in one massive turn, but seeing this playthrough makes me certain, it is just a part of the game and kudos to me for taking advantage of it. :)
Again thanks for this wonderful playthrough. The cards and the not so trustworthy dice will give this game lots of replay value. :)

This games looks very interesting, Feld has a very interesting design to use dice.. I'm looking very forward for the next titles in the series.
Also... at 1:47:00 ish Gemma (sorry if I misspell her name) should get a goulden for the worker on her boat.

    • @henribcosta

And at 1:57:00 you take one point for a magazine worker but that card is supposed to be only end game points because it has that symbol on it. My guess is that each type of assistant is assigned to one type of bonus

Fantastic play through! Thank you Paul! Missed out on getting Macao so I was very happy to have backed this. You mentioned something about the text on the cards. Will the deluxe version contain text on the cards or was this done just for the purposes of this video?

All of the games have language free cards by default. We offered English & German language cards for Hamburg & Amsterdam in the pledge manager as add-ons.

I know the game's editor says in chat that you can only keep one cube at the end, but the rulebook says that you skip phase 4 in the last round and getting rid of your resources and only keeping one is part of phase 4? The end game scoring example picture in the rulebook also shows a player with 4 left over cubes.

    • @GamingRulesVideos

Yep. I think he was wrong. I think you can keep any number of cubes in the last round.

It looks like a good game but why in this day and age is the artwork so dated. I know it might seem shallow but I want to play games that have art that looks as good as the game is. That being said despite the look of it I will probably buy it.
