It’s funny because before the reveal, the thumbnails (I admit I didn’t have the attention span to watch the videos) felt more… genderqueer maybe? I was a Lesbian Avenger in 1994!! (My name is celeste, not Tim.) I was 14, and I saw a flyer for them on a telephone poll in New Paltz, New York that read "Lesbian Avengers, We Recruit!" with a picture of a secretarial woman holding a bomb. That flyer was almost glowing, pulling me towards it by my pupils, with entire choirs of holy angels singing from heaven! There was a telephone number printed a bunch of times on little slivers on the bottom and I took one. I can;'t believe I actually called it, but I did, and suddenly, I was IN! I was the most intimidated I have ever been, sooo starstruck by those people for every single second I spent in their company haha. They were so enigmatic and excited and hilarious - I think it was the first time I really saw rage and joy expressed simultaneously by a single person as power. I understood so very little of what anyone was talking about at the time that I couldn't tell you now at all, and I was excruciatingly shy, but they we're endlessly kind to me. My dad drove me to and fro the meetings haha. Even though my experience of and thinking around gender and sexuality has evolved seemingly endlessly since then, I think the Lesbian Avengers is partially why there'll always be a little militant lesbian inside me who will never die (not do I want er to, she's scrappy and punk rock) Anyway, its so wonderful to see the Lesbian Avengers being talked about so many years later, I feel like I never hear them mentioned, and you reminded me that we must not lose them! We have to keep the radical lesbians, the Lesbian Avengers and Fierce Pussy, etc, alive in our collective queer memories! Complicated aspects of them and all.

That's awesome. I'm partway through here so I don't know if Abby talks directly here about how queer people often do become "elders" at a young age (though it seems very on topic - with talk of queer temporalities, how trans elders can even be biologically younger, and how queer people don't follow the same life trajectories as our cishet counterparts).
In any case, we need stories like yours. Even if you think you're just on the fringes. Being a part of all that and remembering the energy of it all MATTERS.

The 90s commodified a lot of 'lifestyles (remember heroin chic about the same time as lesbian chic?) in an effort by corporations to make people think of themselves as customers and customers as tyrants. The trick is that consumers have choice, but no rights, once you've reduced (there i said it) everyone to a customer you can control their choices, even narrow them down to none at all, by which time they might hopefully have forgotten about the idea of rights.
We, all of us, really owe all these noisy weirdos agitating for rights.

@@Allison_Hart The theory behind coming out is that it is easy for people to hate "the gays" in theory, but it is much harder when it is someone in your own family. It's harder to be an actual hateful bigot to someone you actually care about.
That said, I don't feel that there should be an obligation to come out. By no means should you come out if you're not in a safe place to do so, if you don't have a contingency plan in case shit does go sideways. And I have no sympathy for those who would dare out anyone against their will.

I've been watching some old videos with the Arsonist character, and I realized just how often Abby talked about transgender issues. I appreciated the nonchalant way you delivered “being cool and marketable isn’t the same thing as having rights.” This is not understood by straight people who tend to view rights as implicit to exchange value.
as an out enby that gets shown pictures of Sam Smith and articles Marriam-Webster's word of the year and gets told to stop complaining that trans rights are ignored, I agree a lot. Just because we're being talked about and sold doesn't mean the work is over. It's barely started.

My comment about "rights being implicit to exchange value" was to suggest that people who do not identify as queer, the non-queer, or cisgender have an almost automatic or even subconscious, one could say intrapersonal rhetorical, recognition that marketability and rights go hand in hand. One may sell their labor on a flat market when one has the rights to do so. If transgender or queer identities are present within the market, and the market is flat, evenly-distributed, then transgender and queer identities must have the same rights as cisgender or non-queer. The argument would be extrapolated to include all rights enjoyed by cisgender or non-queer. This is a neoliberal perspective. The idea beginning that if rights are extended, then that extension will offer more labor. However, I think Olly was pointing to the expropriation of fetishes within the economy. There is much more to this, but I hope I got my point across.

I came here ready to be read, and yet that line threw me off my rhythm
I can't remember which RUclipsr it was that said this, or the exact quote, but something along the lines of "queer people are the only marginalised group who do not at least get to grow up among peers". This thought always comes to mind whenever confronted with shame or fear about coming out: the genuine belief that you're the only person going through what you're going through. And even knowing that you're probably not the only person doesn't help if you cannot find others, too.

People who were Assigned Male At Birth but then later realise that their gender identity is female identify as "women", just as cis-women identify as "women". 32:27 it's interesting hearing her say she feels like a Timelord. In Identity the way The Man Who Isn't There faded out mid-bow and Abigail confidently walked through the door reminded me a lot of regeneration in Doctor Who. (Not in modern Doctor Who but similar-ish to old regenerations).

Congrats Abigail, this is officially my favorite video on all of youtube.
Back in 2016 I came out to my friends and family as bisexual. Privately, I was already beginning to understand that I'm actually trans non-binary, but I wasn't prepared for all the "what does that mean???" questions that would inevitably come with that conversation - even with my incredibly supportive and progressive family.
A couple years later, I did eventually come out as non-binary as well, and when I first saw this video I was struck by how much it hit home as a trans person, even though you were only coming out as bi. I'll admit, I did wonder if you were going to come out as trans, and there was the slightest bit of disappointment that you didn't.
But just like me, you needed time to come out on your own terms and I'm so proud of you for doing so. And I'm thankful for the glimpses into your experience that you did share. It hits even closer to home now.
Sorry for the novel - just wanted to share how much this video means to me. Keep being the absolute legend that you are, Abigail 💜
