Here I was thinking I should go for anger management classes. In reality, I just needed this lesson. Glad I bought all my camping gear from Snowy's. You deserved it!
Thanks Marthinus Vorster, I'm glad you got all your gear from Snowys too. Maybe you can re-invest your anger management class fund into camping gear now that you don't need them. :) ~ Ben
Oh my God... I cannot tell you just how grateful I am for this video!!! I'm 47 but with both hands and all my fingers totally stuffed with Arthritis, its impossible for me to roll up and hold a sleeping bag tight to get it in the bag. And I've got three sleeping bags to pack. I did exactly what you said with the first bag and damn! I was pretty proud of myself!!!
Thanks mate, that saved me hours of frustration! I've only ever thought of rolling the bag which is extremely difficult. Your method is so much easier and more efficient! Thanks again!
Was just going insane trying to fit my new sleeping bag into the pack by rolling. So glad i saw this video and have official permission to ruthlessly stuff it. It took me like 20 seconds. Thank you!!!
I tried rolling my new sleeping, now way, couldn't do it. After watching this video I stuffed the sleeping bag in the compression bag in seconds. Thanks!
For the past 7 years I've had this sleeping bag which I never could fit in completely cause I thought you were supposed to roll it.. Knowing this makes it a lot easier!!
Had a problem stuffing my down sleeping bag which I bought in Nepal, try to fold it several times and won't fit through. I remember the seller in Nepal just crumpled it into the compression pack and I found this video, it's indeed just needed to be crumpled to the compression pack! Most useful video ever!!!!
Dude you are a legend!! Literally just accidentally found your video ! Been camping dor years and always used to roll the bag and pack then. After seeing this ran down to the shed found my sleeping bag and tried your way! Literally the whole bag got smaller in half than before lol ! Legend bro!! Thank you!!
Oh my god, thanks for this video. I didn't realise i could just stuff it in. I was literally just on the verge of tears after my 4th faied attempt to fit this bloody thing into the bag! Glad i asked youtube for help.
So glad I decided to watch a video like this before I sat here and gave myself a migraine trying to roll this thing back up to up it in this little bag. I finished putting the sleeping bag away before I got halfway through the video. Thank you!!
This is brilliant, thank you! It’s coming into the warmer months so I just took my winter sleeping bags out of the swag they are darche 900 rated -12 sleeping bags so are quite thick and very good for the colder months. I just spent way to much time rolling them up and trying to squeeze them into the bag but every time they would get fatter and fatter, I got frustrated and thought there would have to be a better way so I jumped on RUclips. This is the first video I watched and both bags are back in there keeper bags and stored with in 5 minutes. I will never roll a bag ever again this tip is the best. Thank you for making the video
WOW!! Thank you so much ....My daughter goes on school camp this week and this video helped sooo much. A great Dankjewel from Jesscia in the Netherlands
Thank you so much for this video, it was very helpful. I just bought my first ever sleeping bag and my first attempt at packing it wasn't very successful because I was trying to fold it. Would never guess that stuffing it in is actually the better and easier way.
Trying to reroll my 9 year olds sleeping bag for her camp in two weeks. Shes been so keen for her first camp that she has been sleeping in it the the past few nights. After getting frustrated at it unraveling, I dramatically declared I was getting a hysterectomy 😏👋😅 (Bit too late for that, I know) Your video was super helpful. Thanks 👍👏
Oh my god.... so there I was trying to figure out how to neatly put away the sleeping bag... now I've watched this and life is so much better! This has taught me that sometimes we should trust our natural instincts and just do it!
Thank you Sir. After 4 attemps at rolling my sleeping bag the way it came out of the carry bag, I gave up. There is no way anyone can get that sleeping bag back into the carry bag....the way it came out....UNLESS they have a machine specifically design to roll it with. Nothing against the manufacture....but your suggestion is much easier, quicker and makes sense . Thank you again.
Awesome video Snowys Outdoors. I just got a down bag for Christmas and I made the mistake of folding it in half and rolling it up like the manufacturer had done. I asked myself if there has to be an efficient way to pack this and thanks to y’all there sure is. I have been packing my sleeping bags incorrectly my whole life.
Great video. Thanks. I just bought a Coleman sleeping bag and it is IMPOSSIBLE to roll tight enough to get it back in the bag. Stuffing it makes it possible. But it's still a tough battle.
Thank you so much for this video especially for beginners or someone who like me has not slept in a sleeping bag before. I was losing my patience with getting my sleeping bag back in its compression bag.
Thank you very much for this enjoyable and informative video. I'm new to this and just learning so I have a few questions. Why are we sure that stuffing is the best method? In this video we learn that folding can cause lines and tension in the bag. However; 1) to avoid the repeated strain of folding we choose a more irregular stuffing method, but if we always stuff it in the same way, by starting at the feet and working our way round, doesn't this too become rather regular? 2) Folding and squeezing the air out can put pressure on the bag, but doesn't punching the bag and stuffing it in do the same? I don't feel comfortable punching my Rab Down 600 XL right now. If anybody can answer these questions if be really appreciative as I am just starting out :)!
Sleeping bags work by having lofty insulation to trap air and keep you warm. folding and rolling compresses the insulation flat. Stuffing helps the insulation to keep some loft, and ultimately increases the lifespan of your sleeping bag. Even if you stuff from foot end, its impossible to stuff the sleeping bag in exactly the same way everytime, with folds and compressions being in exactly the same spots everytime. Just wouldn't ever happen. Punching and stuffing keeps a certain level of loft, its still compression, but compression in a full 360, instead of sandwich compression which flattens the insulation - in your case down. If you roll and fold your down sleeping bag, you'll reduce the lifespan and efficiency of its insulation. If you have a down sleeping bag it should have come with a storage cell, which is significantly larger and leaves the sleeping big and soft and fluffy between uses. You shouldn't be packing your down sleeping bag as the video demonstrates, between trips when its just sitting in your shed or cupboard. ~ Lauren
This is a great method .. I was skeptical at first but your using a bag thats very similar to what I just bought and sure enough with a bit of effort I did it the first go .. great tip!!
I've had a sleeping bag with a belt around it for many years because i could never roll it up tight enough to get it back in the bag, after watching this i just stuffed it in the original bag easily, i can't believe no one ever told me this. Thank you.
This is how I have always packed my sleeping bags, but recently I thought that was "the lazy way" of doing it and that there must be more proficient ways to pack your sleeping bag. Turns out I was right all along.
Very glad I found this. Rolling the bag up is a freaking nightmare because the material is so slippery it's not even holding it's shape no matter how tightly I roll it. So frustrating
Prices are becoming more and more affordably, check out the Sea To Summit Trek range, they are an excellent balance of weight, performance and price. www.snowys.com.au/sleeping-bags#/manFilters=6&pageSize=48&orderBy=0&pageNumber=1. ~ Ben
I suggest that you fold about 30 cm of a synthetic bag, from the foot end of the bag, across one of your forearms. Place the stuff sack between your feet. Then push the folded foot end of the bag into the stuff sack so it fits snugly into the bottom. Then stuff the bag into the sack, taking a quarter turn after each push to obtain a constant fill of the sack.Should you want to use the compression straps, to reduce the size, then place one of your knees onto the top of the sack and with your body weight the sack will reduce in size. This allows you to pull on the compression sacks. Do not over tighten these straps. I would also not do up the zips on any of the sleeping bags; it could cause the zip teeth to distort, or break.
Thank you. I just watched the video above and packed my first sleeping bag. I've got another two to go. I'll give your way a shot. Can't guarantee it will be as evenly packed as yours but will Arthritis in my hands and fingers, anything is worth a go.
good video. how much can I squish a standard dry bag ? struggling to get my kit in my rucksack but if really compacted the dry bag I would have more space to work with.
If your sleeping bag sack is a compression sack you should be 100% ok to squish it as much as you're physically able. If your bag comes with a stuff sack and not a compression one, its generally an indication that it shouldnt be compressed. Just triple check your bags specs to make sure compression wont damage the insulation. ~ Lauren
2/3 roll then 1/3 stuff. I remember my first bag was purple on the out side and red on the inside. I guess my parents must have bought it for me and maybe my mum could use it when she wanted. It was the best of comfort.
I was looking for the way to put Mountain Hardwear LAMINA 0°F/-18°C into snugbag. That sleeping bag is really thick and I was not able to put that into snugbag by rolling. Thanks for your youtube video, I was able to make it. :)
Hey Ben, I have Oz Tent River gum XL's. In another Snowys video it shows how to FOLD them, but what do you think with that particular model ??. BTW, I totally agree with the stuffing method. Cheers.
Yeah, good point BigKev. The Rivergum Sleeping Bags come with zippered storage sacks that are not conducive to stuffing. The same principle still applies though, I guess you can mitigate repetitive folding by packing it up slightly differently each time so the folds fall in different spots, or do the zip up part way on the storage bag and stuff it in being careful not to damage the zip. Alternatively, find yourself a stuff sack and use that instead. I'm not sure why some manufacturers use zippered bags, stuff sacks have always been my preference. ~ Ben
Hi DjPepelicious, you're best storing a down bag uncompressed in a breathable bag, this allows for the down to remain lofted and keeps things dry and fresh. Most good down bags will come with a cotton or mesh storage sack that will accommodate the bag is a loosely packed fashion. If your bag does not have one of these then you can use a large pillowcase or similar, then store it in the top of a cupboard or somewhere it won't be too squashed in. ~ Ben
I just use hatred to put it into its bag every time, though successful I'm glad you showed me a better way and a better way to reduce the risk of a heart attack. Thanks!
I’d like to watch you try and do that with a Mudgee c3 Colman sleeping bag bet you can’t stuff it in. They are impossible to get in a bag even rolling they won’t go in the bag very well.
Just "Stuff that turkey" method works like a charm! (Even though Decathlon could use this treatment as well, becuse their bags are tiny even for both methods)
Thanks for the tip l’ve found it very difficult because both the bag and the sleeping bag(double) are made of the same material which has a slipperiness to it.
Perfect thanks for the info beening looking for one that sayes about the damage it does to the bag just what i was looking for saved me hours of wrestling with mine 👊🤘
I have always folded and rolled. I want to go and get all my sleeping bags, pull them out of their synthetic bags and stuff them back in the right way but seeing that it is way past my bedtime they can wait until tomorrow.
Just got a new underquilt for my hammock and spent 45 minutes trying to unsuccessfully roll it up and get it back in the bag. After watching this video it may have taken 45 seconds to finally get it in.
It's just the sack that came with the bag and is unlikely it was stamped with a size. Unfortunately we no longer have those sleeping bags either, so I can't go and check for you sorry. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it was around 15 litres. ~ Ben
It depends on the space you've got, tcol979. If you can hang it then you are keeping the insulation as lofted and aired out as possible. But this isn't feasible for most people, so I recommend you store a sleeping bag stuffed loosely in a breathable mesh, calico or cotton bag so it can breathe and stay lofted ready for your next adventure. ~ Ben
I was at war with my sleeping bag because I have a camping trip coming up and I couldn’t put it back in the bag, but after seeing this video after two days of war with my sleeping bag, I just realized how dumb I was for not thinking about this. Thanks!

Thank you very much!!!! After trying to roll my bag and it looked like 50cm massive cannon I tried to just stuff it in and it works!!! Amazing!

Down bag tricks very helpful. Thanks.
Happy to help @Pure Explorer

Omg this is sooooo helpful. Thank you!!!
You're welcome!

Just "Stuff that turkey" method works like a charm!
(Even though Decathlon could use this treatment as well, becuse their bags are tiny even for both methods)
Haha, you've just coined a new term for packing away a sleeping bag... "stuff the turkey". ~ Ben
Thanks for the tip l’ve found it very difficult because both the bag and the sleeping bag(double) are made of the same material which has a slipperiness to it.
Yeah, the slippery fabrics can create a challenge, Nicholas, something you just need to persevere with. ~ Ben
Perfect thanks for the info beening looking for one that sayes about the damage it does to the bag just what i was looking for saved me hours of wrestling with mine 👊🤘
I'm glad the video was useful, Sparky. Happy Camping! ~ Ben

I have always folded and rolled. I want to go and get all my sleeping bags, pull them out of their synthetic bags and stuff them back in the right way but seeing that it is way past my bedtime they can wait until tomorrow.
Haha, this is going to speed up your pack up time considerably, Tim. ~ Ben
Just what I was looking for. Thank you!
I'm glad it was helpful. ~ Ben
Just got a new underquilt for my hammock and spent 45 minutes trying to unsuccessfully roll it up and get it back in the bag. After watching this video it may have taken 45 seconds to finally get it in.
Haha, I'm glad it was useful content, Jeremy. ~ Ben
amazing tutorial
Thanks. ~ Ben
What size of sack did you use for the larger sleeping bag?
It's just the sack that came with the bag and is unlikely it was stamped with a size. Unfortunately we no longer have those sleeping bags either, so I can't go and check for you sorry. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it was around 15 litres. ~ Ben
Works absolutely brilliant cheers.....
You're welcome, Kevin. ~ Ben
This was a very well informing video
I'm glad it was useful, MoomSnitz E. ~ Ben
Thank you, saved so much time.
I'm glad it was useful. ~ Ben
Really great and so simple. Thanks a lot.
I'm glad it was useful, Anne. Happy camping! ~ Ben
Should I store it stuffed in the bag, or rolled loosely in the cupboard, or hanging as in the store?
It depends on the space you've got, tcol979. If you can hang it then you are keeping the insulation as lofted and aired out as possible. But this isn't feasible for most people, so I recommend you store a sleeping bag stuffed loosely in a breathable mesh, calico or cotton bag so it can breathe and stay lofted ready for your next adventure. ~ Ben
Thank you mate
You're welcome, hope it was useful. ~ Ben
man you’re a legend! Thank you so much
I'm glad it was helpful, Esma. ~ Ben
I was at war with my sleeping bag because I have a camping trip coming up and I couldn’t put it back in the bag, but after seeing this video after two days of war with my sleeping bag, I just realized how dumb I was for not thinking about this. Thanks!
Haha, there are plenty of people in the same position as you, Yashira. ~ Ben
