I’m from New Jersey so I’ve been going to Penns since high school and I also went when I was in college. The year Bolt came to Penns was surreal. My friend was a high jumper and was on the field competing during the 4x1 Bolt was on. Based on where the high jump is located he pretty much had a front row seat of the race. I remember being sooooo jealous of him because the girls never jump on Saturday.
It’s still nice seeing the top Jamaican high schoolers show out, but the atmosphere was sooooo different when you had usa vs the world.

Jamaica is known for sprints and people only see Jamaica as a sprint country. They have locked Jamaica into a box and are not realising that Jamaica is improving in other events. such as the jumps and the throws. They almost swept the medal in the mens long jump at the last World Championships finishing 2nd , 3rd and 4th.

Jamaican kids been competing in track and field since Grade School, they have "Sports Day" where the houses/team color, similar to harry Potter-Gryffindor, compete for the school championship. Then the best in the school compete against other schools. Jamaicans LOVE the tenacity in Quincy because they like competing with the best. You should go to ISSA Champs next year as there is NO OTHER High School Competition like it. Make sure to eat some yam, banana, dumpling, drink coconut water the natural food that fuel we body. Try to visit the countryside and runup some hill like de country pickney dem because dem can RUN Usain, Sherika, Elaine, Hydel, Edwin Allen etc......

Texas alone has 3 4x100 teams sub 40 seconds, I don’t remember seeing them there. It’s basically Jamaica vs. the upper East Coast. Y’all have to remember track is Jamaica’s #1 sport, this event didn’t even make tv in the states. We lost many guys from our U20 teams to football, with Erriyon Knighton (19.5) almost being one of them. Our best athletes usually play other sports.

There's better competition for Texas high schools to just stay in Texas and run. I get it, it would be good for the fans and all, but from a competition standpoint, it will be just Texas against themselves. We have multiple sub 40's every year and as far as this year, multiple sub 40's in the same races week after week. High schools here would make the finals and possibly even place at an NCAA national championship. Most D1's wouldn't even place at a Texas high school meet.

I look forward to the Penn Relays each year. In 1963 our school's mile relay won the Independent School's Championship of America event at the Penn Relays. I was a junior running third leg. Our coach told me that my job that day, was to break the race open because the anchor from Choate Academy (out of Boston I think; we were a small Catholic Prep school from Newark, NJ) was running 48 second quarter miles and we would need about a 15 yard advantage at the start of the fourth leg if we were to win. We did win, and now my Penn Relay watch comes out each year, now, for the week of the event.

Jamaica dominance was so bad that the meet organizers had to change the formats to allowed American schools to walk away with medals, too, by creating big schools vs. big schools and small schools vs. small schools. So this dominance didn't just start. Since 1912, Jamaica has been the world's top high school program on earth, and that'll never change anytime soon...🤔

Yeah, the relays were good, but unfortunately, it's not 🚭🚫 on Peacock, ESPN, CBS sports and NBC sports and ABC sports but a Penn Flo Channel which was bits and picks: yeah, the Americans were beaten on their own soil, but that means that they know what to do next time, unfortunately, we have students in our high schools that want to represent another country but achieve the opportunity and benefit over here and practiced together with the Americans; and that principle is the same in the collegiate too as well as international programs for the university that provides for them; yeah, the Jamaican podcasts boasted when their high schoolers won the championship and the others medalled beaten the best of the Americans in high schools and colleges (universities) and personally, the Jamaicans came to medal in first, second, and third and they achieved that goal to which they said that they practiced hard and harder to achieve that goal and now the American athletes who represent America know what to do to adjust and progresses to another gear so it's good practice for us true AMERICANS who represent this country USA; the Nigerian attending the international program here and benefits in that program as an opportunity to achieve his goal for his country and it's the same thing of high schoolers who changed allegiance like JF, JCQ, and others! Thanks for sharing your podcast and I enjoyed it! But if the Tennessee anchor of the 800 m had not fallen, they might have won because that team was ahead but he looked back and fallen and I know that his team was extremely upset and I was disappointed because it's another boasting from the Jamacaian team who showed no sportsmanship and were rude, winning is one thing being annoyed is something else when you are questioning about your opponents and that was not 🚭🚫 cool!!!

USA have far to many that the high school talent isn't concentrated on or within track and field. Football, Basketball, and Baseball/Softball alone takes up majority of that talent because in the USA they far surpass the popularity and interest level high school kids have for track and field. ON TOP of that... Jamaica is only relevant in 2 sprint distances the 100 & 200 meter races! After which they're pretty much a non-factor and unheard of for the rest of the event. Tell me, you ever seen a Jamaican high school or Pro team win the Overall TEAM Title at a USA or World Track & Field championship...... NO!!! In world competition the USA vs Jamaica medal count is STILL (an will be) A LOT to a little, AND THAT's FACTS!!!

  • @Wideout4

Training wise. If you are a sprinter in HS training in The North Eastern United States leading up to April you are not going to compete with the training these kids get In Jamaica hell those kids can’t even compete with warmer US states lol.

You are forgetting one critical point, for the US high school teams we are in the middle of our outdoor season so we are not peaking as yet Jamaica has already finished there season and completed their championship. also what is the age of the jamaican teams. its literally men(Jamaica) vs boys. thats why when you watch the jr olympics the jamaican national teams feature people you rarely see at penn because the penn athletes are too old.
